Delta women endorse Tinubu, Oborevwori for 2027

Delta women, under the aegis of Unique Ladies for Sheriff (ULF), on Wednesday, endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as sole candidates for the 2027 elections, insisting that there is “no vacancy” in Aso Rock and Government House, Asaba.

President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori will be seeking a second term in office, and the women, with large followership at the grassroots, have declared their total support to return the duo to office unopposed.

The declaration was made during a colourful event at the Cenotaph, Asaba, with women representatives from all 25 local government areas of Delta State in attendance.

Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of Unique Ladies for Sheriff, Dame Nkem Patience Okwuofu, in her keynote address themed, ‘Touching the Grassroots,’ said the gathering marked a defining moment for Delta women to reaffirm their support for Governor Oborevwori’s leadership and the MORE Agenda.

“We are reaching out to young girls, farmers, artisans, and businesswomen — the true heartbeat of Delta State. We must continue to communicate the governor’s development strides and strengthen our grassroots structures,” Okwuofu said.

The ULF national coordinator appreciated Governor Oborevwori and his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, for their commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots development.

She urged the women to key into government programmes, participate actively in voter enlightenment, and promote community development initiatives.

Wife of the Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, represented by the wife of the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Ewoma Erijo, commended the unity among the women.

She assured them of continued support from the First Lady’s office.

The Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, in his goodwill message, commended the women for their strong presence and active political engagement.

“Let every woman be a virtue in her community. Participate fully in the programmes of government and ensure that interventions are channeled to the right quarters,” he said.

Funkekeme thanked the women for their continued support for Governor Oborevwori and emphasized the importance of women’s roles in advancing government initiatives at the grassroots.

A motion for vote of confidence was moved by Princess Pat, reaffirming the group’s support for both President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori.

“By virtue of what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori have achieved, we, the Unique Ladies for Sheriff, pass a vote of confidence in them. Come 2027, both leaders will return unopposed,” she declared.

The motion was seconded by Irene Imilar, who echoed the group’s confidence in the leadership of both leaders to continue steering the nation and state toward progress.

“With the return of democratic governance in 1999, the former Speaker continued to play an important part in nation-building. He was also a member of our party’s National Caucus, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the President stated.

He described Chief Anaekwe’s life as one of service and inspiration to future generations of lawmakers and administrators.

Tinubu’s achievements have shamed opposition – Wike

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has said President Bola Tinubu’s achievements within two years in office have shamed the opposition.

Wike urged Nigerians and FCT residents to continue to support Tinubu, adding that he will support anybody that supports President Tinubu.

Wike declared the ongoing wave of infrastructure flag-offs and project commissioning across the territory represents an unprecedented record in the history of the FCT.

He credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for reviving long-abandoned projects and restoring public confidence in governance.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Wuye Engineering Infrastructure Project, Wike challenged critics to name any previous administration that has matched the current pace of transformation under Tinubu’s leadership.

“If there’s any administration since the creation of the Federal Capital Territory that has done more than what we are doing, let them speak up now. Their silence says it all, this is leadership that is committed, leadership that is changing lives. Tinubu’s administration has shamed the opposition,” Wike declared.

According to the Minister, many of the projects being inaugurated today have been abandoned since 2009 due to non-payment of contractors.

He explained the Tinubu administration took decisive steps to revive them, leading to massive infrastructural development in the Gwagwalada District, including new road networks, sectoral arterials, tunnels, and utility services.

“When this administration came in, the President took immediate steps to revive what had been neglected. Within one year in office, major projects were completed, including the interchange that once caused traffic chaos in the area,” he noted.

Wike further announced that after 20 straight days of commissioning and inauguration events, the FCT Administration would take a short break before embarking on another 20-day phase focused on education development, where he promised to unveil the government’s achievements in schools and learning facilities across the capital.

“Our work is not only about roads and infrastructure; it also extends to education. For twenty more days, we will show Nigerians what we have done in that sector, and it will surprise many,” Wike said.

Expressing gratitude to FCTA staff, Area Council Chairmen, and Councillors, the Minister praised their dedication and described their efforts as record-breaking.

He reaffirmed commitment to supporting all political leaders who align with the President’s vision, adding that a “political tsunami” of performance-driven governance is sweeping through the territory.

Wike said: “Those in real estate used to complain: No roads, no infrastructure, our businesses are collapsing. Can you still say that today? Every day you see progress because infrastructure has been provided. That’s what development looks like.

“My dear people, look around you. If you live here, if you have property here, your conscience will tell you the truth, that leadership has returned to this country. The Renewed Hope Agenda is real. Forget my face; what matters is the work being done”.

Wike also commended the Area Council Chairmen and councilors for their partnership and commitment.

He said: “From Airport Road to Kuje, the results speak for themselves. Go there and see what this administration is doing. The difference is clear.

“We are not going to rush, we are going to shock them with what we have done in the education sector, so that they will know that President Tinubu’s administration is not only concentrating on the infrastructure in the FCT, as regards to the network of roads, it is also focusing on the education sector”.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima announced the grant Tuesday during the inauguration of the ninth edition of the MSME Clinic, designed to support small businesses and stimulate economic activity across local communities.

He said the Federal Government established the Expanded MSME Clinic to bring services closer to entrepreneurs and foster innovation, employment, and access to resources through direct engagement with key institutions.

“MSMEs remain the backbone of our national vision.

“We came to office committed to ease the nation’s economic burden, and our support for businesses remains a top priority,” Shettima said.

He noted that through the clinic, MSMEs could access regulatory bodies like CAC, NAFDAC, and SMEDAN, as well as banks including the Bank of Industry, to resolve pressing business challenges.

Highlighting President Tinubu’s commitment, Shettima said: “This grant is non-repayable and part of our efforts to eliminate barriers hindering MSMEs and promote an environment where small businesses can thrive.”

He added that the administration had also introduced a N75 billion MSME Intervention Fund, offering up to N5 million in loans to 75,000 enterprises at a 9 per cent annual interest rate.

He said additionally, the N50 billion Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme was supporting one million nano businesses nationwide with grants of N50,000 each, targeting the most vulnerable micro-enterprises across all 774 local councils.

“Another intervention, the N75 billion Manufacturers Fund, provides loans of up to N1 billion to manufacturing firms to offset high costs of production, marketing, and logistics.

Shettima also announced the inauguration of the N5 billion Katsina State MSME Growth Fund, a matching scheme between federal and state governments, disbursing N576 million to 237 local businesses.

He hailed Gov. Dikko Radda for establishing the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency (KASEDA), a key initiative supporting MSME transformation into regional, national, and global business players.

“No country thrives without a robust MSME sector With more than 1.7 million MSMEs, Katsina is positioning itself as a hub for agriculture, crafts, services, and digital enterprise,” Shettima said.

He emphasised the importance of inclusion, applauding the involvement of women and youth in enterprise development, noting that “growth without inclusion is but a mirage.”

Tinubu Support group mobilises for voter’s registration in A’Ibom

‎The Coordinator of Support Tinubu for Better Nigeria, 2027, (ST4BN)  in Akwa Ibom State, Esio Uquong Udoh has mobilised Akwa Ibom citizens to participate in the voter’s registration/revalidation exercise.

Udoh, a former Chairman of the South South Parliamentary Caucus, National Assembly while described the exercise as “the stepping stone to a better Nigeria.”

‎Speaking during a sensitisation event in Uyo, he said: “If you have your voter’s card, you have your power. Akwa Ibom people must rise and be counted in shaping the destiny of our state and our nation.”

‎Udoh specifically called on young people who were below the age of 18 during the last general elections to seize this opportunity to get registered, stressing that their involvement is crucial for the future of Nigeria’s democracy.

‎He also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Akwa Ibom Chapter, to decentralise the registration process.

“INEC must hear the cries of the people. Deploying staff to local wards and polling units will reduce the burden of long queues and make the process more accessible, especially in rural areas,” he said.

‎In a further show of community spirit, the former federal lawmaker urged local government chairmen across the state to provide logistical support to elderly and physically challenged citizens to ensure they are not left out of the exercise. “This is not just about elections, it is about inclusion and participation. No one should be left behind,” he added.

‎He reiterated that full support for the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno begins with citizens possessing a valid voter’s card.

He urged political stakeholders and community leaders to lead by example and mobilize their communities toward massive voter registration.

‎”As Nigeria moves toward the 2027 general elections, the call underscores the fundamental role of civic responsibility in nation-building. The voter’s card remains the most potent tool for change and participation in governance.

‎”Beyond its role in elections, the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is a symbol of democratic empowerment. It gives every Nigerian a voice and the legal right to influence leadership at all levels, local, state, and federal. Without it, citizens forfeit the chance to decide who governs them, and by extension, the future of their communities,” he said.

    • AGF flags off construction of over 600-bed hostels at school

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that a new, state-of-the-art auditorium be built at the Nigerian Law School to further enhance legal education infrastructure.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike announced this yesterday in Abuja while flagging off the construction of a 600-bed students’ hostels at the Abuja campus of the institution in Bwari.

Wike explained that the President’s directive followed an observation that the anticipated increase in students’ intake, occasioned by the building of the new hostel, necessitated a review of the existing lecture facilities.

The minister said the intervention demonstrated President Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing the nation’s legal education infrastructure.

He said: “I was discussing with my son who, by the grace of God, was called to Bar in the last Call to Bar ceremony… I said now that we are providing hostels that will take almost 600 students, does it mean that they will now admit more students? He expressed doubt about whether or not the auditorium would accommodate everybody. This means they require another auditorium.

“Luckily for us, I was privileged to meet Mr. President last night and I tabled this to him. He said: ‘Go back and make sure another auditorium is built for the Nigerian Law School.’”

The minister expressed gratitude for President Tinubu’s decisive leadership, noting that his administration has intervened directly in the institution more than any other government since the campus opened in 1997.

He also hailed the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), for his relentless support and commitment to the justice sector.

Wike said: “All we are doing in the justice sector today is because of his support.”

He cited the ongoing digitisation of the FCT High Court as another collaborative success story that has received presidential backing and budgetary approval.

Wike also praised the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School for his selfless leadership, especially for prioritising the infrastructural needs of other campuses, such as the completed hostel and auditorium project at the Yenagoa Law School campus.

He said history would be kind to him.

Flagging off the project, Fagbemi thanked Wike for his consistent support to the Nigerian Law School.

He aplauded the minister’s decisive nature, saying: “One thing I know is that you don’t promise what you will not do. Take it or leave it, love him or hate him, you will know where he stands on any issue.”

  • Tinubu’s strength: Reward for party loyalty

Tinubu’s strength: Reward for party loyalty

Loyalty is political party’s highest badge of honour. Therefore parties hardly invest in those with shifting loyalty. Of course the party oligarchy made up investors, former office holders, current office holders, also have obligations to party members. What therefore sustains political party is members’ trust that their leader will always do the right thing.

If APC has in recent months become an irresistible refuge for PDP and Labour Party elected members trying to escape from what President Bola Tinubu describes as a sinking ship without life jacket, it is precisely that they found trust in APC and its leadership which unfortunately was absent in PDP during their 16 years of war of attrition, called family wars over the sharing of our national resources. Although President Tinubu had said as a democrat, he was not expected to reject anyone trying to escape from a sinking ship, I am sure he must have today become overwhelmed by what seems to have become a tsunami.

The irony is that APC is an amalgam of strange bedfellow made up ACN with progressive world outlook, Muhammadu Buhari’s ultraconservative CPC, a faction of ANPP and APGA joined by a faction of PDP led by Atiku Abubakar and a few PDP governors bent on bringing down their party over the sharing of proceeds of fuel subsidy scam. In fact, leading members of PDP including the late Doyin Okupe, President Obasanjo’s erstwhile attack dog, swore APC would implode after three months. Rather, the party has gone on to uproot PDP that had boasted to govern for 60 years, from power in 2015 and defeated it round and square in a keenly contested 2023 election because of the usual greed of leading light of the party which led to its splintering into three factions on the eve of what Obasanjo would have described in his days as ‘do or die election’.

But if it is going to be of any relief to PDP, they must be told that what stood out for APC was a group of loyal party members led by Bola Tinubu who understands the role of political party as modernization agent in the 20th century. Indeed this group of loyal party men and women did not include the late President Buhari, Tinubu’s collaborator during the 2013 APC formation. Buhari neither loved politicians neither did he see political party beyond a tool for attaining political power.

Tinubu as APC leader was never discouraged by internal betrayals and party in intrigues. He remained a committed party man even after Nasir El Rufai and some PDP stalwarts, who, Buhari’s wife claimed had no idea about APC manifesto, prevented an access to an ‘un-electable’ Buhari he carried on his back around the country, he remained a committed party man as against NCNC and NPP of first and second republics who for similar reason pupped down their coalition.

As a loyal party man, he was on hand to dance around Nigeria with Adam Oshiomhole for Buhari’s re-election. He remained steadfast and worked for Burari’s re-election. But not long after this, betrayal came from his southwest serving and former governors he had invested heavily on. Driven by ambition, they bought the dummy sold by Buhari’s Abuja loyal gatekeepers of automatic presidential ticket once their principal was out of the way. They soon joined hands with their principal’s potential rivals, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Rotimi Amaechi and his political foes including El Rufai and Governor Boni, to illegally remove Oshiomhole as APC chairman thereby preventing their principal’s access to a party in which he was by far the greatest investor.

If President Tinubu took risk to remove the fuel subsidy scam which allowed criminals in shining suits to rape Nigeria using NUPENG and PENGASSON  to inflict suffering and untold hardship on Nigerians, facts available to his predecessors who did not have the courage to rescue Nigeria, it was because Tinubu has his party behind him.

Read Also: NDDC, ministry to partner on housing schemes

If he frontally confronted the bank owners, principal owners of society and Godwin Emefiele their CBN governor-collaborator and others who became billionaires overnight as a result of foreign exchange round tripping, it was because he was sure his party would shield him from dangerous sharks.

If he dared states and LGAs to whom much resources had been deployed to do more for their people at the grassroots level, it was because he knew his party has faith in him as an independent arbiter when it comes to the sharing of resources.

Governor Peter Mba of Enugu’s principal reason for joining the Tinubu train besides the vexxed issue of Igbo voice not being heard when it mattered most, was “seeking affiliation where our interest as a region are represented in the form of fair partnership” and our vision is heard at the federal level. Mba in summary was talking about trust since “Igbo DNA does not change; their “destiny does not change; even while their “vision now finds stronger reinforcement at the federal level”.

For Governors Oborevwori’s “the decision to align with APC is strategic and thoughtful move driven by a singular objective: to fast-track Delta State development through enhanced collaboration with the federal government”.

But I think his predecessor Senator Okowa captured it better.

“People wondered why, but in the history of a people, there is always a time to change their path for the common good of the people, and whatever decision we took was based on that common good and the need to change our path in the best interest of our state”.  It is just as well if APC is the instrument Delta whose successive leaders have been accused and in fact indicted for frittering away billions that would have changed the lives of impoverished people of Delta for better, in underwriting campaign expenses of President Umaru Yar’Adua in 2007 and allegedly, Atiku Abubakar in 2023. I think it will be a big relief for a people whose leaders including the late Augustus Aikhomu and ex-president Jonathan did not see stealing government money as corruption.

Akwa Ibom governor, Pastor Umoh Eno went biblical by aligning himself with the children of Issachar in the Holy Bible who were able to interpret the times and flow with the tide by declaring “I have progressively moved to All Progressives Congress (APC) I have changed my political affiliation; we are support the president for second term in office to complete reforms he has started”.

    Everything boils down to trust.

Nigeria has been haunted by lack of elite consensus since the run up to independence with the tenuous one secured through the British stick and carrot approach collapsing barely two years into independence. The result was a descent into turmoil of warring groups starting with Isaac Boro’s Niger Delta insurrection, the Middle Belt violent resistance, military coups, and pogrom; civil war, and 30 years of military dictatorship. And when they were finally humiliated out of power in 1999, they replaced themselves with military-baked “new breed politician’ who behave like military occupation. In what they often describe as ‘family quarrel’, they spent 16 years fighting over illegal sharing of the resources kept in their temporary care. The era witnessed the privatization scandal through which Nigeria’s total investment of over $100b was according to House probe, sold to PDP stalwarts for $1.5b; fuel subsidy scandal through which PDP leading light and their children embarked on monumental theft of the nation’s resources.

President Jonathan unbundled PHCN after government’s injection of billions of taxpayers’ monies and sold them to PDP stalwarts. They even in the name of dubious monetization policy sold properties dating back to pre-independence period kept in their care for our children to themselves.

President Tinubu, of all our past leaders, is today in a unique position to address the source of the nation’s nightmare. With those who have moved into his APC in droves with the party now in control of 72 senators in the red chamber, 265 in the green chamber and 24 of the 36 state governors, he should be able to leverage on those who have claimed to be driven by his courage to take hard decisions on behalf of the nation.

He has shown by his institutionalisation of six development commissions that he doesn’t need to go back to 1957 or 1963 that we and our fathers have agitated for in the last 50 years. His former political foes now turned political collaborators are all he needs to prevail on National Assembly to legitimize the development commissions as federating states with central police patterned after Amotekun of southwest with local and community police holding sway in the states.
