Tinubu approves new auditorium for Nigerian Law School

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate provision of a new, state-of-the-art auditorium for the Nigerian Law School, to further enhance legal education infrastructure.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister, Nyesom Wike disclosed this in Abuja on Monday, during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of a 600-bed student hostels at the Abuja campus of the Institution, in Bwari.

Wike explained that the President’s directive followed an observation that the anticipated increase in student intake occasioned by the building of the new hostel necessitated a review of the existing lecture facilities, stressing that the intervention demonstrates Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing the nation’s legal education infrastructure.

He said: “I was discussing with my son who by the grace of God was called to Bar in the last Call to Bar Ceremony …I said now that we are providing hostels that will take almost 600 students, does it mean that they will now admit more students. He expressed doubt about whether the auditorium will accommodate everybody, which means they require another auditorium.

“Luckily for us, I was privileged to meet Mr. President last night and I tabled this to him. He said, go back and make sure another auditorium is built for the Nigerian Law School”.

The Minister praised Tinubu’s decisive leadership, noting that his administration has intervened directly in the institution more than any government since the campus opened in 1997.

He also extended commendation to the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN for his relentless support and commitment to the justice sector, saying; “All we are doing in the justice sector today is because of his support”.

He cited the ongoing digitisation of the FCT High Court as another collaborative success story that has received Presidential backing and budgetary approval.

Wike further praised the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School for his selfless leadership, especially for prioritizing the infrastructural needs of other campuses, such as the completed hostel and auditorium project at the Yenagoa Law School campus, stressing that history will be kind to him.

Speaking on the 600-bed hostel accommodation, the minister noted that it is the second major intervention at the Law School within two years of the current tenure of President Tinubu.

Wike recalled that following the earlier flag-off of staff-quarters at the Nigerian Law School, a promise was made through the Attorney General of the Federation to provide the hostel accommodation.

He said: “Today, we are here to fulfill that promise that Mr. President made”, noting that the new 600-bed capacity hostel will significantly alleviate the accommodation challenges faced by students.

The Minister confirmed that the construction, awarded to a trusted contractor, will not exceed the 12-month timeline.

While flagging off the project, the Attorney General of the Federation, who was visibly elated, thanked the FCT Minister for his consistent support to the Nigerian Law School.

He praised the Minister’s decisive nature, saying, “One thing I know is that you don’t promise what you will not do. Take it or leave it, love him or hate him, you will know where he stands on any issue,” he said, and likened the Minister to a Computer Based Test (CBT) which results are instantaneous.

The AGF also acknowledged the Minister’s extensive history of intervention in the justice sector, even before his ministerial appointment, including feats in Yenagoa and Port Harcourt.

He confirmed the judicious use of previous donations, which include four Hilux vans and three Coaster buses, in addition to the flag-off of staff quarters, and now, the 600-bed student hostel.

While noting that many people have come and talked without walking their talk, Chief Fagbemi further extended profound appreciation to President Tinubu for his numerous supports through the FCT Minister.

and thanked President Tinubu for approving the project.

He also extended appreciation to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation for his support, while also acknowledging the significant contributions of the FCT Minister to the development of judiciary infrastructure, describing him as “our great benefactor”.

2027: Kogi Alliance faults Senator Karimi over remarks on Tinubu endorsement rally

A political support group under the aegis of the Kogi Alliance for Renewed Hope (KARH) has faulted comments by Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West, over his remarks on the recent endorsement rally for President Bola Tinubu in Lokoja.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its President, Toba Ogundele, and Secretary, Idris Abubakar, the group described Karimi’s comments as “disrespectful, misleading, and out of touch with the realities in Kogi State.”

KARH maintained that the people of Kogi remain firmly committed to supporting President Tinubu in 2027.

It dismissed Karimi’s claim that the people were being “bullied” into supporting the President, saying the rally was a spontaneous and genuine show of goodwill from Kogites who are pleased with Tinubu’s leadership and developmental achievements across the country.

“The people of Kogi State do not need to be coerced to support President Tinubu — they are already convinced by his actions and performance. From infrastructural projects to appointments of deserving Kogi indigenes, Mr President has demonstrated inclusion, fairness, and capacity that speak louder than any campaign slogan,” the statement reads.

They said the endorsement rally in Lokoja, attended by grassroots party members and community leaders, was a show of unity and gratitude rather than political manipulation.

“It is disappointing that a senator who benefited from the goodwill of the same people will dismiss their enthusiasm as coercion. President Tinubu’s policies have increased federal allocations, improved rural infrastructure, and created opportunities for small businesses in Kogi and beyond. These are tangible benefits, not empty promises,” the statement said.

The group noted that the people of Kogi understand what leadership means and will not be swayed by those attempting to score cheap political points ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Senator Karimi’s attempt to discredit a peaceful, democratic endorsement only exposes his detachment from the grassroots. From Lokoja to Okene, Kabba to Ankpa, the message is clear: Kogi stands solidly behind Presidentt Tinubu because they have seen the difference between rhetoric and results,” they said.

The forum urged political leaders from the state to put aside personal grievances and work in harmony to ensure that Kogi remains a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

“President Tinubu has shown unprecedented commitment to developing Kogi through infrastructural renewal and youth empowerment. The people of this state will willingly and proudly vote for him again in 2027 because his record speaks for itself,” the statement added.

    • Ex-Delta governor hails Oborevwori for project execution

The improved revenue allocation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has strengthened the capacity of state and local governments to deliver development projects across the country, former Governor of Delta State, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has said.

The former governor stated this when he hosted members of the Ukodo Nation Forum, led by its National Convener, Olorogun Morrison Olori, during a thank-you visit.

He noted that the fiscal reforms and improved revenue generation under the Tinubu administration have translated into visible progress in Delta and other states.

“You may be in a position and still not have the resources to do what you want for the people. This is why we must thank Mr. President. He has engineered the revenue generation in such a way that states and local governments are no longer crying like before,” Okowa said.

The former governor attributed the performance of his successor, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, in the past two years to this improved fiscal environment.

According to him, Delta has recorded major infrastructural achievements in the past two years.

“There are projects that cost quite a lot of money. If you’re coming from Ughelli down to Asaba, if it’s just that road alone, we thank God… It speaks volumes,” Okowa added.

The former governor said Oborevwori’s achievements have vindicated his decision to support him during the 2023 election, despite initial doubts.

“You have started the politics of organising for your son early, and it’s very exciting to me. I want to thank all of you for starting this group, because it’s actually very important to us,” Okowa told the delegation.

He said Oborevwori’s developmental strides have silenced critics who initially questioned his capacity.

“People made all kinds of comments, as if the governor then was a nobody. But until you watch a man from the inside, you may not know who he truly is,” he said.

The ex-governor condemned elitist politics, insisting that leadership should be based on capacity and service, not class identity.

“Some people wanted us to go in the direction of ‘this person belongs to this class,’ or ‘that one is from the upper circle’. No. It’s about who has the passion to serve the people. Oborevwori is that person,” Okowa stated.

Juxtaposing Nigeria’s current reforms and the economic transformations of China and Singapore, the former governor urged Nigerians to be patient with the Tinubu administration as the benefits of ongoing reforms continue to manifest.

“There is inflation now; yes. But we must explain to Nigerians to be patient. In the next three years, we will begin to see the effect. See what China is today. Singapore too had to go through painful reforms. That’s exactly what President Tinubu is doing.

“What we’ve been doing was destroying Nigeria, thinking we were building it. Someone now comes to repair, and we rain curses on him. But in the end, Nigerians will realise he came to fix the nation,” Okowa said.

The ex-governor urged the Ukodo Nation Forum to continue mobilising grassroots support for Oborevwori and the Tinubu administration.

He noted that such a collaboration among the people would sustain development at the subnational level.

Responding, Olori said the group visited to show appreciation to Okowa for supporting Oborevwori’s candidacy back in 2023.

The Ukodo Nation Forum’s national convener described the decision as a solid foundation for Delta’s current growth.

“You laid a trillion-dollar foundation for Delta State for choosing Governor Oborevwori in 2023,” he said.

Olori promised that the forum, which cuts across the three senatorial districts, would continue to mobilise for the re-election of Governor Oborevwori and President Tinubu in 2027.

“Both leaders are God-sent to redeem Delta and Nigeria at the most challenging times,” he added.

The statement read: “President Tinubu’s bold decision to clear over $10 billion in foreign exchange liabilities has restored investor confidence and contributed significantly to the stabilisation of the naira.

“As a direct result of these policy initiatives, Net Foreign Exchange Reserves have grown from $3.99 billion in 2023 to $23.11 billion by 2024, signaling restored fiscal discipline and confidence in Nigeria’s macroeconomic management.

“Furthermore, the administration has successfully attracted over $50 billion in new Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) commitments and unlocked more than $8 billion in oil and gas investments. Tinubu’s aide to SMEs: explore opportunities in food production value chain to grow wealth, jobs

The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Industrial Training and Employment, Hon. Adamson Oluwatosin Ayinde has described the food production, processing and distribution sector as pivotal to job creation and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) growth that Nigeria needs for economic development and sustainability.

Speaking in Lagos on Thursday during the 2025 World Food Day organised by Spectra Industries Nigeria Limited, Ayinde noted that the government alone cannot achieve food security and industrial prosperity without the concerted efforts of private sectors and other innovative minds.

The SSA said the theme of 2025 World Food Day, ‘Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future’ aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu who emphasised inclusive growth through synergy among government, industry and community.

He assured the food processing sector and similar stakeholders of the readiness of his office to develop a structured industrial training programme, for food processes, packaging, safety and equipment maintenance so that Nigerian youths and MSMEs can produce competitive products for both local and export markets.

“As the office of the SSA to the President on Industrial Training and Employment, our mandate is to build  the competent and technical workforce capable of driving Nigeria production and transformation, as we mark this year World Food Day, let us remember that the future of Nigeria food system depends on the policy of our human capital”, he said..

In his welcome address, the chairman of Spectra Industries Nigeria Limited, Chief Duro Kuteyi said the Food Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has set aside 16 October every year to celebrate globally and create awareness on why   nutritional foods should be made available to people without leaving anyone behind.

He noted that the theme of the year 2025 World Food Day reminded everyone that eating nutritional foods is essential to healthy living and a better future.

Kuteyi expressed optimism that recent sharp declines in food inflation rate from 21.87 percent in August to 16.87 in September signaled that food security is coming on the way in Nigeria, adding that food processing expansion in Nigeria will make food available throughout the year at uniform price.

Reeling out a litany of challenges facing the food processing sector in Nigeria, the food technologist impressed on the federal government to make infrastructural development a priority and make lower interest rate loans available for MSMEs through Bank of Industry and other commercial banks.

Also speaking the Executive Director of Spectra Industries Nigeria Limited, Mrs. Modupe Kuteyi highlighted the significance of World Food Day and the need to eat good food to prevent malnutrition.

Mrs. Kuteyi noted that market competition with multinationals’ companies who have larger capital has been toughest challenges for the food processing sector facing in Nigeria, but her company is able to stay afloat because of the company’s sturdy stance on quality.

For Dr. Tony Bello, founder of USA based Shine Bridge Global Incorporated, to create jobs and drive entrepreneurship in any country requires strong investment in value addition.

He encouraged Nigerians to embrace diaspora talents, saying there are many Nigerians in diaspora willing to invest in the people to allow both local and diaspora talents transform and translate strategies into products, real and ready to eat consumer foods.

  • The minds and ways of leaders

The minds and ways of leaders

    By Abdu Rafiu

William Shakespeare said a long time ago that there is no art to find the mind’s construction in the face. That will be generally speaking. Sometimes, you hear it said: “As if he has picked my thoughts.” Thoughts are generated by the frontal brain, cerebrum, the seat of the intellect with the intellect transmitting them. The mind serves as the window to glance at the generated thoughts. But it is not given that we read them in the mind until they are expressed. Clairvoyants read forms to which thoughts give rise. Those words which tell of other things than the gross material can only arise through unimpaired cooperation of the intuitive faculty of the hind brain, and these come in pictures. In other words, the back brain is the spiritual receptive part of the brains, the prompting of the spirit in pictures passing through the solar plexus to the heart and then to the back brain. Thus, the hind brain was created for reception but the frontal brain for transmission into the earthly world of thoughts, speaking and action. When the back brain is obstructed and hindered in its activities, the man is solely dependent on the frontal brain which gathers from the earthly and the environment and is thus limited, lacking in freshness and newness of vision. Its capacity cannot go beyond time and space. Another consequence is that “the abundance of the heart” from which “the mouth speaketh” is uninfluenced by the perception of the spirit. Unguided, therefore, by the intuitive perception, so very often, there are missteps and we misspeak. Leaders and the led will always act in accordance with the varied degrees of their inner radiance or even lack of it or trammeled and dimmed.

With distorted intellect must, therefore, ensue fraud and deception, slavery and force, sensuality and lust, discontent, envy, hatred and murder. There is sole reliance on imagination, most times mistaken for right guidance, but which flows from the combined working of the intellect and physical feeling.

Wholesome guidance can only come from the intuitive perception — what the spirit draws from On High and is mediated in pictures ending with the hind brain.

How do we then enter the minds of our leaders to read from therein for the face? Unfortunately, Mr. Shakespeare states there is no art to find the mind’s construction on the face. King Duncan in Macbeth was reflecting on the human nature, how deceptive it could be. He realized he had been taken in by the false loyalty of the Thane of Cawdor; he had misjudged him. Yet, we must strive to understand our leaders. We must learn their language; where they are coming from. We must be open and alert to read their body language and to sense aright. This is because we are inexorably subject to how their minds work.

READ ALSO: Military debunks report of alleged coup to overthrow Tinubu

I was reflecting on the spate of defections by governors and legislators everywhere. And I was asking myself whether the idea of opposition is no longer about competition, of ideas and beliefs so that the electorate can be presented alternative choices according to their own light. This is the stage of recognition of human beings in our development in the present time. For we would find later as we grow that, as I have stated in multiple times, leaders are born, not made; they are sent, not electable. Following the failure in the era of Divine Right of Kings, human beings discarded the ordinance placed in Creation by the Maker with which man is to be governed, and replaced it with their own devices.

Undergirding the defections is absence of principles. It is pursuit of power for power sake; it is the pursuit of inordinate ambition, visibility and influence, pomp and emptiness. In nearly all cases, when a governor defects, he does so with all his commissioners, the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly in the state. Where in all these is honour, where is wholesomeness for the health of our land? In Edo State, the hero-worshipping has gone overboard, indeed to the depths. There, the permit to attend the state’s executive council meetings is, henceforth, the wearing of Bola Tinubu signature cap. You must flaunt it. The artistic design on it is to depict the breaking of chain which he grappled with in the years of struggle to drive back the military to their barracks. It is his symbol of freedom. Ordering that the passport to state executive meetings must be the possession of Tinubu Cap is carrying fawning to the extreme and to the ridiculous. People will always demonstrate love and loyalty to a leader they admire, but not through compulsion. These were to identify with their leaders. Of course, we had Shagari Cap; to a little extent, Buhari Cap. We had Awo Cap, but not once did anyone find it on Chief Adekunle Ajasin; Chief Bola Ige, Bisi Akande, Olusegun Osoba — all his ardent followers. These were not forced on any followers. People would wear them to copy their leaders, some for certain motives, some to bootlick and curry favours, many in false admiration to put flowers on the head of their leaders and some out of genuine affection.

And closely related to the foregoing, are strikes. Some are justifiable such as the two-week warning dispute by the university lecturers and the strike by resident doctors. The one called by oil industry labour leaders against Dangote Refinery was uncalled for. Now, the nation has not recovered from its consequences. The price of premium motor spirit that shot up during the strike has not come down.

Movement is driven by the Law of Motion. Where there is no motion, there is no life. Motion drives all human activities. Motion itself is triggered by heat. Absence of heat generated by the spirit is absence of movement by the body. Complex chemical substances called Carbohydrates in plant storage organs supplying energy to the body gives impetus for the movement of the body when we eat them. When the body moves it could be by walking or using automobiles. What powers automobiles in the modern world is fuel and gas. Now, through the technological wonders of this age, automobiles are also being powered with electricity. Any disruption, therefore, to fuel production and distribution is disruption to life and living, to daily rounds of activities and duties, to the economy and to political and social lives of a nation.

It was shocking that the labour leaders in the oil industry would not give Dangote Refinery, the only one which has come to the rescue of the country in its most trying period time, to settle. The Yoruba elders would say, “Oko s’ero ni alagbede in p’oko ta!” That is, “Oh so, if it were that easy, a blacksmith would not stop at merely fashioning and producing hoes, he would go out there in the bush and till the ground himself.” Former President Obasanjo issued out 18 licences for the establishment of modular refineries. How many have plucked the courage to utilize the licences? Perhaps only Edo State Government! The public refineries have since Obasanjo era gone comatose even after humongous sums of money have been expended on them. Commonsense ought to have dictated that the unions should give Dangote Refinery time to breathe and settle down properly. Would you collect check-off dues from a non-existent refinery? Dangote, the brave one, plunged into it, giving the country a $19 billion plant. The work force is about 4,000! And he says he pays the least worker in the refinery three times the minimum wage, and what a driver earns is four times a graduate is paid elsewhere even in the private sector. Such is the success that within a year Nigeria is exporting aviation fuel overseas. And that is what union leaders wanted to pull down!!Nigerian history books

    The ASUU strike

This column is in sympathy with the university lecturers. We must have a warped sense of equity and fairness as a people to pay a Professor N533, 000 a month and pay his product he taught in the university N29 million a month, as revealed by Professor Itse Sagay.  I am also referring to the figure of Senator Shehu Sani which put a Senator’s take-home pay at M14 million after certain deductions have been made. Even then! A former Member of the House of Representatives somehow corroborated the revelation by Professor Itse Sagay that the pay of a Rep is N21 million a month. Vice-chancellors who produce the legislators get about N1.5million a month.

Lecturers cannot maintain their vehicles. Some sleep in their offices. In some cases lecturers stand by the roadside to be picked by their colleagues to the campus, and this is alternated. To be a legislator from most parts of the country, you must have a university degree or equivalent to qualify and even to think of being a legislator. The authority to issue the degree certificates are the professors. For me, that is where we should start. We must make our university lecturers feel worthy and good.

Over the years, the university activities with regards to providing solid education in our land have been disrupted too often. Students stay longer to get their degrees than is scheduled. The children of the rich, not being able to bear this flee to the Western world or India for quality education. Lecturers themselves are fleeing overseas in search of greener pastures. University education has become basic. Even if later a product from there becomes a mechanic, he will be different, he will make a better and an all-rounded mechanic.

From Babangida era when lecturers were accused of teaching what they were not paid to teach and Professor Ben Nwabueze was Minister, Professor Babs Fafunwa was also — to the time of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to Buhari, and now to Bola Tinubu, the story is the same and the posture of the authorities not seeing this as an emergency to rectify the shortcomings is sickening. And there has not been any rethinking.

    Prerogative of Mercy

There has been uproar on the prerogative of mercy President Bola Tinubu exercised recently. The exercise followed the report of a committee set up for the purpose. The committee looked into each case meticulously and with care. The most controversial of the cases, however, is that of the young lady, Maryam Sanda, 37, sentenced to death in 2020 for killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, in a blind rage. The uproar is predictably so as murder is a heinous, first degree crime. The court consequently sentenced her to death. Anyone with human feelings must feel miffed by the show of mercy for her by Tinubu in view of waves of killings sweeping through the land. A great many believed the government was overgenerous to her and that the least should have been to commute the death sentence to life imprisonment. But the committee report thinks otherwise. It says she has shown tremendous remorse and has changed. If she has changed, why would we still keep her within the prison walls which we have rechristened Correctional Centres? The purpose of punishment or imprisonment is to correct, make a person see his or her errors and be a new human being, that is, change for good. President Bola Tinubu did the right thing in setting the young lady free.

Hardly does it occur to us that the lady’s greater punishment is just beginning. How does she face her children and explain to them what happened, what she did to their father? The thought will menace her for several years to come, if not throughout what remains of her life on earth. The husband will appear to her continually in her dreams, perhaps still boiling. He may not have gone far in the beyond and is perhaps seeking an avenue to avenge his murder. Since the departed can pick thoughts, if she is truly remorseful and full of regrets, his rage may begin to give way. If she is open enough, she will feel the change in her husband as well. Sensing he is around she might wish to deepen her atonement by apologizing more profusely and regularly to him and to her children.

There are two classifications of crime commission. A crime could be committed borne out of impulse. The other classification is when a crime is committed from out propensity and is therefore deliberate. Sanda’s case was borne out of impulse from what I read when her trial was on-going which may be why it was easy for her to recognise the enormity of her crime and she was able to quickly become remorseful and come to atonement. The remorsefulness was palpable that the Custodian Authority became impressed by her becoming a new person. The new thinking by administrators of justice in the enlightened world is that in inflicting punishment there should no longer be time-limit to how long a convicted person stays in the confines of a jail house as atonement cannot be determined in advance! It is believed that punishment without time limit offers sufficient guarantee for a complete inner change of a wrong doer for good. The new thinking being mulled is said to be already being put to test in some prisons in the United States.

The advocates of the new thinking are saying a wrong doer should stay in jail forever until he becomes a new person, watched over by psychologists and the like along the field to monitor and test for progress and complete change. The thinking is borne out of experiences and knowledge that some felons complete serving their terms and are released without the slightest remorse and in no time they go back into crimes. All in all, the earthly laws must align with the Creation Laws. The three major Laws of Creation are what unfailingly will bring about reward as well as punishment for the human being. It is then, “we shall also understand the real purport of the words of the Old Testament, ‘To me belongeth vengeance, and recompense’ (Deut.32, 35) and “An eye for an eye and tooth for tooth’ (Deut. 19:21) whose deeper meaning has so far never been understood.” (A Gate Opens, by Herbert Vollmann). To set anyone free, it must be borne in mind that the immutable and self-acting Laws of the Creator are operative and awaiting the wrong doers unless the guilt and the attendant burden have completely dropped off him or her through genuine remorsefulness, atonement and change.

It is also being suggested that prisoners should be separated using the Law of Homogeneity as it is automatically done in the ethereal world, the Beyond, so that prisoners will experience themselves. Out of disgust and abhorrence for the experiences there would be a longing to get out of the bind and that it would lead to atonement as the intention of the law and punishment should be to help and reform out of love. It is through total change that the threads connected to a criminal will not receive further nourishment from power centres in the Beyond. Not finding any more anchorage, the threads will simply shrivel and slide off! And the wrong doer is redeemed. There is no ascent to the Light Realm of Paradise until man’s dirty linen is washed clean.
