    During a candid Q&A session on Beat FM, she explained: “I received a car for my birthday, but I returned it because I wasn’t feeling the guy.”

    According to her, although the car was a birthday gift, she decided to return it to avoid leading him on.

    Award-winning singer and songwriter Tiwa Savage has confidently positioned herself as ‘Big 1’ in the music industry.

    When asked about her thoughts on the Big 3 and Big 4 discourse, Tiwa Savage boldly stated that if talent were the sole criterion, she would be considered the “big 1”.

    The “Big 3” consists of Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.

    She emphasised that her exceptional vocal skills and musical talent set her apart, but acknowledged that the ranking is not solely based on these factors.

    During a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, the host asked, “Do you feel like you’ve to be part of the ‘Big 3’ or even ‘Big 4’ conversation? How do you feel about that?”

    She replied, “Don’t get me started. If we are to go talent for talent, mic for mic, I am the big 1. If you take off the numbers [streams], and whatever you want to judge the big whatever with, you can’t see me on the mic. But again, it [the ranking] is not based on that [musical talent].”

    Tiwa Savage’s impressive music career spans over two decades, with notable achievements such as releasing her debut studio album “Once Upon a Time” in 2013, and subsequent albums “R.E.D” in 2015 and “Celia” in 2020.

    Afrobeat singer Tiwa Savage has revealed the challenges that come with being a single mother in the entertainment industry, acknowledging the importance of support in her life.

    During a recent interview on the Big Friday Show, hosted by BBNaija alumnus Tacha, Tiwa spoke about her forthcoming new album, creative process, and journey as a mother. 

    Speaking on mothering her son Jamil, she emphasised how important her mother is and how other people in her corner help her.

    “It takes a village, raising my son as a single mum. I always need my mum. I call on my mum, she’s very instrumental, and we have a nanny that has been with us since he was three months old, and he’s nine now, so she has been with us for nine years,” she said.

    She also mentioned her son’s godmothers, who help out when she travels for work. 

    Tiwa noted that being a mother doesn’t stop when kids become adults. 

    “I look at my mum, and she still mothers me at this age. She still calls to ask if I’ve eaten and tells me to drink lots of water and rest. When she sees things online, she still worries about me at my big age. Our jobs don’t end.”

    Tiwa celebrated women’s ability to multitask, balancing full-time motherhood and career responsibilities. 

    “And for me, I think as women we can juggle lots of things at once; that’s our superpower. I can literally be a full-time mum and a full-time career woman.”

    Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has revealed that American R&B singer, Brandy is one of the main reasons she got into the music industry.

    Savage made the revelation in an episode of CNN’s African Voices Changemakers saying, “She’s my all-time, like, she’s probably one of the main reasons why I even got into music when I heard her singing and I saw her braids, you know, as a teenager, I fell in love with her and I’ve always wanted to work with her.”

     The singer, who recently made her debut as a film producer in the film, ‘Water & Garri’ recently worked with iconic American singer, Beyoncé Knowles.

    Speaking about her collaboration with Beyoncé, she said, “It’s definitely an honour and I just appreciate her, like putting a spotlight on Afrobeats and doing such a project like that is incredible.”

    Savage has paved the way for many other young women to join Afrobeats and explains how the industry has changed, “I love it because there are more women now doing great things and they’re bold with it. I feel like they’re not scared and that inspires me.”

    Singer Tiwa Savage has spoken about her intimate moment in debut film, ‘Water and Garri’, with emphasis on what she had to do to stay in character. 

    In a new interview with BET, Tiwa Savage spoke about the ending, the love scenes and if she’ll be doing future films.

    Speaking on what attracted her to the ‘Water and Garri’ script, Tiwa Savage said: “I love the story. I love the story of coming back. I love the story of finding yourself again.

    “It’s not such a happy ending, but then, in life you don’t always have happy endings. So, I loved that. And then I loved that it had a love twist to it. All of those elements were just very beautiful to me.“

    Speaking about the spicy scenes, how sometimes she forgot she and co-star were not really dating, She said: “I have a love interest in this movie and sometimes, if we’re like on set, I’d have to remember “that is not your boyfriend Tiwa” [laughs]. You need to calm down. And then my real-life boyfriend at the time would come on set and I would be like “what is he doing here?” [laughs]. We’re not together anymore though, so he can hear this.

    “The first day on set I had my kissing scene. I’m glad it was my first day because I just went right into it. I remember in my dressing room, I brushed my teeth like five, six times because I was like I needed to represent. But, he was very lovely. All of the cast was. They were really really nice.”

    Asked if she’ll be doing more films following Water and Garri, Tiwa Savage said: “Listen, I’ve told everyone, film cheques are good. So, I’ve got like ten scripts in my head. I have other stories I’m working on.”

    Award-winning singer Tiwa Savage has recalled how she used to be stopped from performing at concerts when she returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom because of her ‘revealing’ outfits.

    She disclosed some of her earlier music videos were not aired because they were considered indecent.

    The ‘Stamina’ crooner disclosed this in a recent interview with BET.

    Savage said: “When I first moved back, I would turn up at a show and they would say I can’t perform because my outfit was too risqué.

    “It was a cultural issue. Even some of my first music videos were not played on the television because they were considered indecent. I wasn’t even wearing bikinis. 

    “Despite the setbacks, I was still stubborn. My dresses were getting more revealing. It was just getting worse. They were bashing me online.

    “It was funny because the females were secretly falling in love with me and my style. They couldn’t deny it. My fanbase, my followers, was growing. So they had to put me on shows and play my music because there was a demand for it.”

    Afrobeat singer Tiwa Savage has lamented fans constantly compare her with rising female artists.

    According to her, she is constantly being pitted against other female artists by overzealous fans.

    She said the fans often pit her against every rising female artist, claiming that they are coming to take her “throne.”

    Disregarding naysayers, the ‘Water & Garri’ actress said she would go out of her way and make friends with the new female artists instead because she believes music is not a competition.

    In a recent interview with BET, she said: “Fans always try to pit me against other female artists. Any new female artist that comes up, they would be like, ‘Yo, she is coming to take her throne.’

    “And I would go out of my way to make friends with them [new female artists] because it is not a competition. The real competition are the male artists. I was happy that Tyla, a female artist, won the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys over the male nominees.”
