  • Why I’m adopting a ‘not-so-privileged’ parenting style – Tiwa Savage

Why I’m adopting a ‘not-so-privileged’ parenting style – Tiwa Savage

Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has shared her approach to single parenting, stating the importance of instilling ambition and drive in her son, Jamil.

Savage, via her Instagram story, corroborated with businesswoman, Ibukun Awosika’s statement that warned against spoiling children to prevent the risk of them growing up without passion or motivation.

The singer revealed that she intentionally exposes her 10-year-old son to experiences that promote humility and hard work, such as flying economy on commercial flights and earning privileges through chores and good grades.

She also limits his screen time and sweets, prioritising Bible study instead.

She wrote: “Pastor Awosika “do not kill your children’s dream by using your success to kill their ambition” if they always have everyone and they’ve lived such a luxurious life they MIGHT grow up without passion, drive, ambition and you have to have a need or lack of something to drive you to pursue your dream. A dream should be something bigger than your reality. Something you wish you have that you don’t already.

“Coincidentally this is something I have started doing with Jamil. Apart from when we fly private. When we do fly commercial I have started putting him in economy. Last time we flew and he was in economy he was upset with me, I had to keep going back and checking on him (mind you he was with his nanny o) . He said he was having neck pains and he couldn’t stretch his legs, someone that his legs are still short it can’t even touch the front seat.

“Now if he wants to buy Roblox he has to earn it by doing house chores or when he gets good grades. He is not allowed iPad, snacks or candy during the week. Bible study every night before bed. Thanks aunty @fenenellz for introducing us to that. Jamil is actually a really good kid though but I am intentional about setting a good foundation for him (that’s real love)”.

In a series of posts, Savage called out Dami Foreign for his repeated attacks, including a past comment wishing her harm.

I lost lucrative deal after refusing to travel with company executive – Tiwa Savage

Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has claimed that there is a pervasive nature of exploitation in the country’s music industry.

Speaking at a panel discussion organised by Entertainment Week Africa, Savage shared personal experiences of being pressured to offer s3xual favours in exchange for career opportunities.

According to Savage, she has been told to visit influential male executives to secure bookings and has lost endorsement deals for refusing to compromise her values.

One such instance involved being asked to go on a holiday to Dubai with a company co-owner, which she declined, resulting in the loss of a lucrative endorsement opportunity.

She said, “I had been told that if I didn’t go and see ‘this chairman’ personally, I would not be put on a show. I lost an endorsement because I refused to go to Dubai with a man who is one of the owners of the company.

“That was when I realised that they don’t value my talent but my body, which I was only flaunting as part of branding. It ended up hurting me because that is all they were seeing.”

Infidelity not enough to end my relationship – Tiwa Savage

Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has revealed that infidelity has never been a deal-breaker in her relationships.

During a recent interview, the singer and mother of one opened up about her romantic history, stating she has never cheated on a partner nor ended a relationship over cheating.

According to her, she only leaves relationships for grave issues like theft, drug abuse, or similar misconduct.

Tiwa acknowledged that people have indirectly stolen from her but emphasised that cheating alone does not justify ending a relationship.

She explained that partners who cheat often return with apologies and efforts to reconcile, which she typically accepts.

Being a public figure, her calm and non-confrontational personality, she said, makes it easier for partners to stray without public backlash.

She said: “No, never. And I have never left someone for cheating. I didn’t even leave him; he left me. Well, indirectly, yes. Even when they cheat, they’ll come back and apologize. That’s not a deal breaker for me. They get away with it because of my personality. I can’t come online to rant, and when I see them, I can’t react”.

Tiwa Savage clarifies comment on polygamy

Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has clarified recent comments about being open to being a second wife, stating that her remarks were borne out of frustration and emotional pain from past experiences.

In an episode of the American podcast ‘Air Service’, the 45-year-old artist disclosed that her pool of eligible suitors primarily consists of men in their 50s or those already married, prompting her to consider being a second wife.

“If I meet somebody who can really marry me, they are either in their 50s or already married.

“So, I don’t know. Maybe I can be a second wife. I think so. I could be a second wife,” she said.

According to Savage’s recent video, her words were misinterpreted and she has no genuine interest in polygamy.

Savage explained that her past experiences with love have left her with emotional scars, and being the only wife to her ex-husband didn’t amount to sustainability.

She said : “I was a first wife, where did that get me? I got married as the only wife but here we are. I’m tired of being heartbroken; maybe I’m getting it wrong. Maybe I should try being a second wife.”

The mother of one emphasised that being a second wife is not her choice and she doesn’t want to be in such a situation.

“It’s not my choice, though. I don’t want to. I wish I could tell my truth, but I will be dragged,” she said.
