    TMC hails Turkey’s anti-Daesh fight

A foremost Islamic organisation, The Muslim Congress (TMC) yesterday lauded the onslaught against Daesh by Turkey, Russia and Iraq, saying the struggle must continue until the terrorist group is defeated

TMC Amir (National President) Dr Luqman AbdurRaheem, who made this remark during Muharram Get-Together, held at Onikan Stadium, Lagos said reiterated the need for a more global effort to end the evil group.

“They have existed for too long and caused so much harm and damage in many countries,” AbdurRaheem said while delivering his opening remark.

The event tagged The Muslim World and the challenges of leadership, with a sub-theme was People-oriented governance and collective consciousness: Lessons from Turkey.

He commended the people of Turkey for backing the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to foil the July 15 coup bid.

“We call for the cessation of hostilities in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen. The world should realise that these needless wars have gone on for far too long with the attendant consequences of maiming and loss of thousands of lives, destruction of properties and the pollution of the environment.

The United Nations, the European Union, the Arab League and the African Union should come together to mitigate and find lasting solutions to these problems,” AbdurRaheem said.

A professor of Arabic and Islamic studies in the University of Ibadan, AbdulHafeez Oladosu said: “The Turkish coup failed because it lacks the support of Allah and the people of Turkey. It sought to manipulate the current realities of the people of Turkey. Turkish people are content with their current leadership and that reflected in the people’s reaction”

Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Hakan Çakil, who was represented by Counsellor for Religious Affairs at the Turkish Embassy, Mr Ali Kasikirik, said the Turkish defended Erdogan-led government by turning out to the streets despite the gun fires.

The people, Kasikirik said, resisted machine guns to defend democracy.
