    TOYIN AIMAKHU GOES BALD

The actress who has been spotted carrying the new look stated: “Bold, bald and bad like you’ve never seen before. Talk about knowing your craft and doing everything to pull it off.”

The actress who began acting in 2003, when Bukky Wright, a Nigerian film actress, visited Ibadan to shoot a movie, has over the years, featured directed and produced her own movies.

She is also preparing for the cinema run of her latest project Alacada Relaoded.

  • TOYIN AIMAKHU: THE PAST CAME CALLING

HOW can she get this boy off her back? It was only a stint romp, but the romance was faulty from start to finish. And if actress Toyin Aimakhu had enjoyed some monetary largess from Seun Egbegbe, it is doubtful that they are worth the shameful incidents in the aftermath of that affair.

‘Nobody’ knew who Seun Egbegbe was, until about a year ago when the actress introduced him to the media in the course of their controversial romance. She had just left her husband and fellow actor, Niyi Johnson, on the account of infidelity, leaving many to wonder if Egbegbe was any better

They had concealed the relationship initially; with Aimakhu claiming it was avuncular, but it only a matter of time before denial gave way to silence that spoke volumes. He took her on a secret romantic trip to Dubai in September 2015 and presented her with a Range Rover SUV, stuff that it was clear her struggling ex-hubby couldn’t afford. She threw caution to the wind until the breeze blew back with unpleasant heat. She must contend with his illiterate mien, domineering attitude, petty jealousy, assault and public ridicule.

About this period last year, Egbegbe dispossessed her of the Range Rover SUV when he arrived a movie set in rage, ordering her to surrender the car key. Early this year, Egbegbe was alleged to have kidnapped the actress as a way of preventing her from social media activities for a while. He became a thorn in her flesh, boasting to bring her career to an end. When it was obvious she could no longer live with his attitude, she involved the police who made Egbegbe to sign an undertaken never to threaten her again. She had confessed that his threats affected her business as other producers refused to cast her for movie roles in order to avoid Egbegbe’s trouble.

With the episode on Egbegbe formally closed to her life and career, Aimakhu must have been advised to do something that will make fans see her in positive light again. That was when she joined the #SaveMayowaCampaign that sought fund for the now deceased 29-year old Mayowa Ahmed who battled Ovarian Cancer. Everything appears to be working for her until she made another gaffe that sent tongues wagging. Aimakhu pulled out of the fund-raising over reports that the lady’s parents knew she could not be cured but went on with the fund-raising. They thought she betrayed the sick and hasten her to the grave for giving up, perhaps for the worst reason.

The media has not forgotten how Egbegbe sneaked to its headlines. Thus, when anything pops up about the guy, he is quickly linked to the actress. Unfortunately, nothing remarkable about him has surfaced; not a movie he produced or marketed has made anything worth the talks, until he was caught stealing in the market place. And that has given him another identity as a thief, the worst so far, compared to previous adjectives like controversial, arrogant, extravagant and assaultive.

Last Tuesday, Egbegbe was beaten to pulp for trying to steal nine pieces of iPhones at the Computer Village, Lagos. He was only rescued and detained by the police.

The incident has put a question mark to his source of riches, especially with the loss recorded by filmmakers in the face of intense piracy.

The effrontery of carting away a heap of mobile phones leaves much to the imagination, that some insinuating he could have depended on some spiritual powers which eventually failed. It was as though the shop attendant suddenly came out of hypnosis only to run towards Egbegbe who was about driving off in his jeep.

Attempting to make a cover-up, Egbegbe claimed he was going to bring the money from his car. But that was for the lazy press to consume, because if that was the case, bringing out the money could have proved he had a genuine motive and that could have spared him the mob action. And come to think of it, each of that phone costs close to N300, 000 and one wonders if he had approximately N3million to pay for the entire phones.

Well, all those excuses came on the spur of the moment. The shame can no longer be covered, as the Police, on Thursday, charged the case to court after he spent two nights in their custody, from where he was remanded in Kirikiri prison.

This may be the tale of a Yoruba film marketer; the life story of Toyin Aimakhu will not be complete without the name of Seun Egbegbe. The stigma, as it is for the actress, is a rotten past which keeps hunting her. For her ex-husband, Johnson, they probably were not meant to be.

Fans bombard Toyin Aimakhu as mixed reactions trail Mayowa’s death

First, she became ill, started a drive to raise treatment costs which succeeded before she and and her family were accused of financially manipulating the good hearts of Nigerians. But on Sunday, everything ended as reports broke that 29-year old Mayowa Ahmed, who battled Ovarian Cancer and allegations of fundraising scam, died in a South African hospital.

Since Mayowa Ahmed’s death was announced on Sunday, some watchers of the developments have sought to hang her death on various causes such as fate and various persons. The parties involved include Toyin Aimakhu who had earlier joined the Savemayowa Campaign but left, Aramide Kasamu of Life Stake Foundation and Linda Ikeji who owns LindaIkejisblog, the platform which broke a story denouncing Mayowa’s case as irredeemable and suspected foul play on Nigerians by the Ahmed family, a claim the family denied. This resulted in a police case which was only resolved after about a week later. She travelled to South Africa on August 11.

Last week, the late Mayowa’s family thanked Nigerians for raising about N32 million aside the $100,000 raised online via gofundme for her treatment abroad.

And while Toyin Aimakhu is yet to say anything about Mayowa’s death, some of her fans have come out to berate her. On Sunday, Aimakhu had posted a picture which had the wordings ‘I can’t believe there are only 4 months of 2016 left. What did I do for the other 8 months?’

And some of the responses served to inform her of Mayowa’s death.

‘Mayowa is dead’, wrote righteousree, ‘Aunty toyin… mayowa is dead’, wrote tonia.horlan ‘RIP Mayowa’ wrote 1srladyskincare while divalicious_phil asked ‘Is it true mayowa is dead?’

However, feeling the star was being harangued, other fans like remmysworld, came to her rescue, commenting: “Mayowa’s cancer was already at stage 4, unknown to Toyin….she’s gone to rest free of pains and sorrow…..love you Mayowa but God loves you more Rip.”

Reporting the news of Mayowa’s death, LindaIkejisblog, at the end of the story prayed, ‘May her soul rest in peace, amen.’

And while posters also prayed for the repose of Mayowa’s soul, they also expressed divergent opinions.

‘May her soul RIP. Linda take note!,’ Juliet Iwuno said.

Another poster, Carloswilliams, still thinks the SaveMayowa Campaign was a fraud.

    ‘RIP dear,’ Carloswilliams wrote.

‘I still believe it was a scam. The family nd her Drs knew she (can’t) make it . They (were) only interested In the money. Chikina.’

Other posters wondered at how money yet to be spent on Mayowa’s treatment will be used.

‘No wonder LUTH doctors said she was on stage 4,’ Zetta Blog said. ‘Sad indeed….so what will happen to the 100 million?’

On any remaining funds, some like Oyinlola Ogunwale, advised the Ahmed to put it to charitable causes.

‘Now all we want is that the family should remove her south Africa and burial expenses and ensure that the balance is donated to people who need d help,’ Ogunwale posted.

‘If they hear that that someone needs a 10 million (naira) kidney transplant for example… they should ensure they donate all the money from the balance of the money with them… till Nigerians money with them is exhausted… my humble opinion.’

Prior to flying to South Africa for treatment, Mayowa’s family had considered hospitals in the U.S., India and United Arab Emirates for treatment.

  • MAYOWA: TOYIN AIMAKHU’S LINE SUCKS!

IF I hadn’t seen Toyin Aimakhu cry in movies, I probably would have been taken by her crocodile tears at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where she made a fun of everything she claimed was a true charity project to help save Mayowa Ahmed, the young lady who is down with Kidney problem and whose family resorted to public help to bring her back to life.

After a messy marital separation from her erstwhile husband, Niyi Johnson and perhaps a messier one that tore her and her film marketer suitor, Seun Egbegbe apart, the actress appeared to be warming her way back to the heart of her fans with claims of charity works, until she shot herself in the foot again by calling the #SaveMayowaFund a scam.

Between the blog that first denigrated the public donation and Aimakhu who followed suit with a louder cry, both have since gone under on this issue. Why? A good intention cannot be shamed for too long: Mayowa is on her way for treatment in UAE, even though more than the LUTH doctors who purportedly said there was no hope for the sick, Toyin Aimakhu had condemned Mayowa before her time.

Indeed, she sucks in those lines, saying they made her lie to the world.

According to Francis of Assisi, “Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance.”

After receiving bashing from fans, Aimakhu claimed she was only trying to clear her name, querying why Mayowa’s parent let them continue the campaign for donations when they (the parents) had been told by doctors that there was no hope of survival.

What name or integrity is Aimakhu trying to clear, if I may ask? What integrity does she have that is costlier than the life of the sick girl? If indeed Aimakhu’s interest to help save Mayowa was genuine, she would not give up on the poor girl in that cheap manner. Apparently, the dramatic wailing actress did not take a deep reflection before creating a scene on the matter. And I wonder if she would be able to look at the sick girl in the face and say ‘you can’t make it’. Yes, the words she thought her parents couldn’t tell her. The foolish faith which she thought they have. The undeterred effort for which Aimakhu has tagged Mayowa’s parents thieves.

In the words of Jackson London: “A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with the dog, when you are just as hungry as the dog.” This, to my mind, is what Mayowa’s parent share which Aimakhu could not, perhaps because she is not her blood. It matters to a discerning mind if Mayoya’s life can be extended by just one day.

Even if the plane takes-off only for her to give up at that point (God forbids) her spirit would know they stood by her till the very end. This is the kind of charity that Jackson London is talking about here.

One can see clearly from this point that, like Aimakhu’s disposition, “Some indeed have tears naturally, when the higher motion of the soul makes itself felt in the lower, or because God our Lord, seeing that it would be good for them, allows them to melt into tears. But this does not mean that they have greater charity or that they are more effective than others who enjoy no tears.” -Saint Ignatius

I recall that in 2012, our friend, Chris Kehinde Nwandu was confronted with a similar situation when raising fund for a fellow journalist, Laura Nduoyo, who some doubting Thomases ruled out for survival. Nduoyo needed N5million for corrective surgery, having been down with ‘acute gastroenteritis’, a condition resulting in an extremely swollen stomach accompanied with intense pain.

Like Mayowa, some doctors said she couldn’t survive the ailment, but some people didn’t relent. They put their names on the line, and with the assistance of well-meaning Nigerians, they raised the money, sent her abroad and today she is a living testimony. Indeed, it is God that heals, not the doctors. It doesn’t matter if Aimakhu and her likes believe this or not.

***Toyin Aimakhu keeps mum on SaveMayowa donation drive

After helping to raise over N30 million for ill fan, Mayowa Ahmed and later purportedly denouncing it as scam actress Toyin Aimakhu has kept mum following the turn of events.

On Thursday, Linda Ikeji ‘s Blog, LIB, said people involved in raising money to raise money to save Mayowa reported to her that it was a scam.

According to the report, Mayowa’s condition was terminal and doctors at University of Lagos Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi Araba, Lagos, where Mayowa is on admission had given up on her case. And the family was aware of this, yet they went ahead to raise funds for her treatment.

However, this has generated ruckus on the social space, involving Nollywood actress Toyin Aimakhu, who was a major force behind raising over N30 million. The actress who is set to launch ‘Teemoji,’ her line of emojis was also accused of leaking the news to LIB that Mayowa’s case is a fraud.

Youtube videos on Thursday showed the actress being accosted at LUTH by several persons accusing her of telling gossip blogger Linda Ikeji that Mayowa’s case is a fraud.  However, the actress in the video can be heard denying talking to Linda Ikeji.

The management of LUTH has waded in to investigate the matter concerning its patient.

On Monday, Aimakhu put photos of her and Mayowa on her Instagram account and pleaded with Nigerians to help fund a go fund me account opened for that purpose.

    “This is Mayowa,” she wrote.

“I don’t know her. I have never met her. The only thing I know about her is that she is my fan. I am an actress and I believe this is the time to use my voice. We need your help.”

However, on Thursday, Aimakhu again posted that there was a fake Go Gund Me account using Mayowa’s case and the public should be aware of this.

“pls to the public this is so so fake, no more gofunds on behalf of Mayowa and whoever is behind this shame on you, pls disregard any information/s about her pls..if you need any info pls kindly get intouch with me pls and will bring more info tonight again, whoever created this acct shame on you again and lastly to all our pastors, alfas and traditionalists and everyone pls she needs our prayers more now pls and im sure god wants to use Mayowa case to let us know we Nigerians love ourselves and we are the best country in the world.”

This development confused many Nigerians as to what to believe anymore.

A snapshot of the Gofund me account that was raised for Mayowa said she was diagnosed with bilateral Ovarian Mass Carcinoma and needed 100, 000 dollars for treatment at Emory International Hospital, Atlanta, USA.

But according to LIB, ‘there’s no letter from Emory Hospital inviting her over. Mayowa does not have a US visa and the cancer has even spread to her liver.’

It also said: ‘Some of Mayowa’s family members are being detained at Area D in Mushin while they investigate.’

But the Ahmed family members on Thursday denied that the SaveMayowa Donation was a scam.

In a statement, they said that the sole purpose the funds were raised was to take Mayowa abroad for proper medical care.

“As a family, we want to make these affirmative statements,” the statement read.

“Mayowa is presently at LUTH receiving treatment for her seven-hour trip to Abu Dhabi. We also engaged the services of Flying Doctors to accompany her on the trip based on recommendation by doctors in LUTH.

“She is receiving treatment to allow her to be able to travel as advised by doctors. She’s been transfused to help improve her PCV.”

“The funds raised are solely for Mayowa’s treatment and for no other reason. We await her visa to commence the journey as we are in touch with the doctors abroad and they are awaiting her arrival. We appreciate the contributions made by Nigerians on this journey.

“We have been misled by the so-called top hospitals in Nigeria and have only helped to make the issue worse. We require every support to help to give our dear Mayowa another attempt to regain her life and live the remaining as God as ordained.”

In an interview granted to online news platform, Pulse ng, Mayowa’s sister, Mariam Ahmed, said her sister has sickle cell and ovarian cancer and said Linda Ikeji cooked up her story.

“I don’t know why Toyin Aimakhu and Linda Ikeji are saying we are scamming nigerians,” Mariam said.

“It is a lie. No doctor ever told us my sister cannot survive this. They just told us to do something and take her out of the country. Nigerians, wed didn’t scam you ooo. It’s a lie ooo. Linda Ikeji has never been in this story and now, she’s cooking up everything… Right now, my sister is inside the room crying. I don’t know what she (Linda Ikeji) wants us to do. I don’t know what she (Linda Ikeji) wants from us. Please, we don’t know anything about the scam. It is true, my sister has ovarian cancer. At least, we sent the medical report. We posted everything online. You people saw everything. Nobody even asked to put the video. She was just tired. She put the video because she does not want to die. And she posted it online. Now, everything is out. There is nothing we can do but keep praying to God. I don’t know why Linda just cooked up the story. Nobody told us she’s going to die.”

However, Aimakhu has remained silent on social media since Thursday’s dramatic turn of events.
