    FK Haugesund skipper, William Troost-Ekong will be one of the invited foreign-based professionals to arrive at the Super Eagles camp in Uyo ahead of their African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Tanzania next weekend.

    The central defender departed Scandinavia on Sunday morning, and is expected in Akwa Ibom State latest today.

    Troost-Ekong is not lacking confidence ahead of the game against Tanzania, having starred at the Olympic Games, and he picked up the Man of the Match award after scoring his third goal of the season against SK Brann on Saturday.

    Watford striker Odion Ighalo, Emmanuel Daniel, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Jamiu Alimi will hit camp today, according to a release by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

    AfricanFootball.com has again scooped that Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has swung into action to put together his defence ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in October by penciling down William Troost-Ekong and Musa Mohammed.

    Rohr has hit the ground running by flying out to Spain to watch the NPFL All-Stars feature in a series of friendlies against Spanish clubs including Valencia and Atletico Madrid.

    A top official told AfricanFootball.com: “Troost-Ekong and Musa Mohammed are among the defenders Rohr will consider for the World Cup qualifiers.

    “He has mentioned the names of some of the players he is counting on for the qualifiers and some of them will be called up for the AFCON qualifier against Tanzania in Port Harcourt.”

    Norway-based Troost-Ekong is currently leading the defence line of the country at the Rio Olympics.

    The central defender, who was eligible to also feature for Holland by virtue of his Dutch mother, debuted for Nigeria against Chad in an AFCON qualifier in Kaduna in June 2015.

    Musa, on the other hand, made his long-awaited Eagles bow against Mali in a friendly in France in May.

    He also featured in a 3-1 win over Luxembourg that same month.

    He is an all-action right fullback, who has captained both the country’s U-17 and U-20s.

    According to information gathered by allnigeriasoccer.com, Gent loanee William Troost-Ekong has finally landed in Atlanta, United States to begin preparations with the Dream Team.

    Following the central defender’s arrival in camp, it means only three players named in Samson Siasia’s 18-man roster in the shape of Kingsley Madu (AS Trencin), Oghenekaro Etebo (CD Feirense) and Umar Aminu (Osmanlispor ) are still being expected.

    The team’s coaches were also expecting Madu last night from Slovakia, while Etebo is expected to fly to the United States from Portugal after a flight hitch.

    As for Aminu, it is understood that his Turkish Super Lig club have not yet permitted him to represent Nigeria at the Olympic Games, but talks are progressing well.

    Rizespor’s Godfrey Oboabona is confident that the defenders called up for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying tie next month will hold their own against Tanzania despite their limited international caps and youthfulness.

    The average age of the four defenders that stepped out onto the Ahmadu Bello Stadium pitch in June when the Super Eagles took on Chad was 22 years, with former coach Stephen Keshi handing debuts to William Troost – Ekong and Kingsley Madu.

    “Firstly I have to give thanks to the Almighty God for getting me among the invited players, ” Godfrey Oboabona told allnigeriasoccer.com.

    “All the players invited are from one country and we have to be together, we can cope with the pressure of playing away from home.

    “I have to see when my team is playing before I know the exact date I will report to camp.”

    Godfrey Oboabona has started nine games for the Super Eagles in AFCON qualifying since he made his international debut in 2012.
