The Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), Akoko North West chapter, has held a stakeholders’ meeting for all the wards in the local government, culminating in an empowerment program for selected leaders in the local government by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who is also the financier of the support group.

The stakeholders meeting was aimed at strengthening its political structure, energising supporters, and deepening public awareness of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s achievements as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

The large-scale mobilisation is fully supported and funded by Tunji-Ojo, who has maintained a high sense of commitment to grassroots political development and the success of the Tinubu administration.

The Director General of AMG, Asiwaju Olumuyiwa Asagunla, described the exercise as “a deliberate and structured effort to stabilise the organisation, reinforce internal cohesion, and sustain continuous sensitisation across the state.”

    Group lauds Tinubu, Tunji-Ojo

A socio-political group in Ondo State, the Ijaw Consultative Forum (ICF) Worldwide, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Interior, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, for what it described as “exceptional performance in office.”

It dismissed a revived allegation concerning the minister’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, despite previous official clearance on the matter.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Suffy Uguoji, the group criticised those attempting to tarnish the reputation of Tunji-Ojo, who it said had consistently made Ondo State proud through his work at the Ministry of Interior.

The renewed allegation, raised by Emorioloye Owolemi, concerns issues that have been laid to rest about the authenticity of the minister’s NYSC certificate.

According to Uguoji, both the NYSC and a court had earlier looked into the matter, with outcomes the group said cleared the minister of wrongdoing.

The ICF argued that resurrecting the issue suggested “an ulterior motive.”

“We don’t see any reason that actually prompted Owolemi to raise the matter again if there is no ulterior motive behind it,” the statement said, adding that the minister had “no skeleton in the closet.”

The group also distanced itself from a planned protest reportedly being organised over the allegation, claiming that individuals behind the planned demonstration were “eyeing Bunmi Tunji-Ojo’s position.”

Uguoji said the people of Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency, where the minister hailed from, would not participate in the protest.

“Nobody knows Emorioloye in our constituency,” the statement said, alleging a lack of credibility on his part.

The ICF called on security agencies to prevent any protest that could “create crisis in the state.”

It said the minister enjoyed strong support in Ondo State, citing his earlier tenure as chairman of House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and his current role in the federal cabinet.

The group urged Tunji-Ojo to remain focused on his duties and on supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

According to the forum, campaign groups such as the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), Sunshine Grassroots Network (SGN) and G18 Progressives are targeting 95 per cent of the votes for Tinubu in Ondo State in 2027.

2,000 elders benefit from Tunji-Ojo’s free medical outreach in Ondo, rally support for Tinubu

No fewer than 2,000 elderly persons in Ondo State have benefited from a free medical outreach sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s healthcare intervention and grassroots engagement initiative ahead of the 2027 election.

The outreach, which largely targeted senior citizens within the All Progressives Congress (APC), provided essential services including eye examinations, blood pressure and sugar checks, diabetes screening, basic treatments, and free medications—further boosting the ruling party’s presence among its core support base.

Speaking at the event on Thursday, the leader of the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum, Erastus Akeju, described the exercise as both a humanitarian effort and a strategic intervention to reinforce support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Akeju said the initiative was designed to bring healthcare closer to the people, especially at a time when many elderly citizens are struggling with economic hardship. He revealed that the programme aims to reach “at least 2,000 elderly residents in each senatorial district,” noting that it followed extensive planning within the elders’ forum.

He commended Tunji-Ojo for his “unwavering political loyalty and commitment to the welfare of the people,” saying the minister’s interventions are crucial to consolidating the APC’s grassroots structure. The party stalwarts also described the medical outreach as a reflection of the minister’s humanitarian disposition and steadfast support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“Our elders are the foundation upon which our victories stand. Their sacrifices, wisdom, and endurance shaped our journey. It is therefore both a moral duty and a political responsibility to prioritise their health and dignity,” he said.

The Secretary of the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum, Chief Ebenezer Alabi, noted that many elderly APC members had long neglected their health due to economic challenges, adding that the outreach renewed hope among the party’s senior supporters.

He said a monitoring team had been constituted to ensure effective and transparent implementation.

Earlier, the programme facilitator, Hon. Ademola Ijabiyi, urged beneficiaries to appreciate Tunji-Ojo’s continued support, citing the minister’s facilitation of jobs, assistance for monthly elders’ meetings, and various development initiatives across Ondo State.

Ijabiyi cited the monthly elders’ meetings and job opportunities facilitated by the minister and various development projects across Ondo state as evidence of his commitment to humanity.

Also speaking, APC chieftain and National Chairman, Senior Citizen Centre, Abuja, Chief Ade Ayeni, noted that opinion leaders under his coordination had been working tirelessly to mobilize support for the APC, particularly towards securing President Tinubu’s reelection.

A guest lecturer at the event, Dr. (Mrs.) Joy Eloho-Orji of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, educated participants on healthy living in old age, stressing that ageing is a natural transition rather than a disease.

She also advised elders on domestic safety precautions and urged political leaders to prioritise regular medical check-ups, including blood pressure and prostate screening.

Dr. Orji further encouraged adherence to prescribed medications, adequate sleep, and avoidance of smoking and alcohol.

Rivers APC lauds Tunji-Ojo for promoting 75,202 paramilitary officers

Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Darlington Nwauju, has commended the Interior Minister, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for facilitating the promotion of 75,202 various categories of officers of the four paramilitary agencies under the Interior Ministry.

Nwauju said the Interior Ministry under Dr Tunji-Ojo’s leadership activated all the critical factors stimulating motivation in work environment including recognition and rewards, providing opportunities for professional growth, learning, advancement and a sense of fairness.

He said, “Nigerians should be concerned with identifying square pegs in square holes who have capacity to deliver tangible dividends from taxpayer’s money. Public service should and must remain performance driven with measurable indices and not haphazard or an all comers affair.

“Judging from the past history of the Ministry of Interior, this was a Ministry whose voice was only heard announcing national holidays, what we now witness as Nigerians is like the opposite of that inglorious past.

“Part of the ugly narratives past handlers of the Interior Ministry bequeathed this nation was its total lack of planning and organisational abilities evidenced in a shambolic recruitment process which never saw light of day”

Nwauju recalled that under the PDP administration in 2014, thousands of job seekers were warehoused like disposable articles at different stadia and centres in Abuja, Benin, Minna, Port Harcourt, Kano and Lagos.

“Nigerians were packed like sardine in a most catastrophic recruitment exercise and innocent lives were lost with hundreds getting injured. That incident occurred as a result of an attempted recruitment into the Immigration Service alone, this contrasts the recent seamless recruitment exercise conducted for all four of the agencies under the Interior Ministry, where technology was simply deployed leading to a hassle free exercise”, he said.

Nwauju called on paramilitary officers under the Interior Ministry to reciprocate the gesture by redoubling efforts to strengthen the nation’s internal security.

FG promotes 24,202 officers, personnel in four para-military agencies

The federal government has announced the promotion of 24,202 officers and personnel of four para-military agencies in the country.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) made the announcement in Abuja, saying the exercise cut across senior officers, middle cadres and other personnel in the agencies.

The Minister of Interior and chairman of the board, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo revealed this on Monday in Abuja.

Tunji Ojo, who spoke through the secretary to the board, Gen. Abdulmalik Jubril (rtd), said the promotion marked the second batch of the board’s senior officers promotion in 2025.

The four para-military agencies under the board are: Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Tunji-Ojo said that from the 24,202 promoted officers; NCoS recorded 11,426, NIS: 4,336, FFS: 2,581 while 5,859 were elevated in NSCDC.

“The promotion was based on various parameters which included national spread, good records, ratification, performance and vacancy availability,” he said.

The minister stated that the promotion was aimed at boosting the morale of personnel to ensure proper service delivery in their prospective agencies.

He said that this was in accordance with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure the well being of serving personnel.

“In recent years, promotion of officers had been stagnant but this administration is dedicated to enhancing the well being of personnel to tackle insecurity bedeviling the country.

“Among the several incentives brought to the ministry this is particularly worthy of note,” the minister said.

FG committed to addressing security challenges facing Nigeria, says Tunji-Ojo

The federal government would leave no stone unturned to address the security challenges facing the country, the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said on Thursday.

Tunji-Ojo, who undertook a tour of the operational headquarters of the Federal Capital Territory Commands of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and Federal Fire Service, FFS, said the government would battle headlong and overcome the criminal elements responsible for Nigeria’s security challenges.

Tunji-Ojo said President Bola Tinubu had given a marching order to ensure that the agencies under the ministry were in the right perspective for optimum and effective service delivery at this critical point.

“The president is putting all hands on deck to make sure that we have a safe Nigeria, and of course, the issue of safety and security of a nation is a work in progress, and of course, we are doing a lot, and I think the NSCDC has a major role to play,” he said

While inspecting the ongoing construction of the NSCDC FCT command training ground, Tunji-Ojo said that the corps, alongside sister agencies, is taking proactive steps to ensure the preparedness of personnel in combating insecurity.

He said, “Paramilitary service is about constant and effective training and capacity building, and the NSCDC has a major role to play.

“The FCT command seems to be up and doing, and I am happy with the training center, and you can only give what you have.

“I am here to see their preparedness and if they are forward thinking, and with what we have seen with the training facility they are building here to train the arms guard; it means they are forward thinking and are preparing for the future that will eventually come.

“We must keep training, retraining, and investing in training so that these gallant officers can continue to give their best to Nigeria.”

The minister assured that the ministry under the leadership of President Tinubu will continue to render its support to Nigeria’s paramilitary agencies.

“The president has given us all the support. So it is my responsibility as the minister under the leadership of Mr President to give all the support, and that’s why I am here,” he said.

Tunji-Ojo charged paramilitary officers and men to discharge their responsibilities effectively, efficiently, and with utmost respect for fundamental rights.

“Security is life, we are relying on them, and Mr President is trusting them to deliver on the issue of internal security and the protection of critical national assets.

“We believe that they will deliver on this and we all will be proud of Nigeria and be able to call this great country a home,” the Minister said.

He assured that the ministry would continue to conduct unscheduled on-the-spot assessment of paramilitary commands across the country.

“We want to see things the way they are. To see the sort of service that Nigerians are getting cut across all our agencies basically, because like what I always say, a good service is not good enough for Nigerians but only the best of services,” he stated.

The Minister however expressed displeasure over the state of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) Wuse station, Abuja, saying that he would take the matter up with the FFS Controller General.

“I have expressed my views on what things I am not too comfortable with and those issues, I will take them up with the FFS Controller General.

“And these are issues that must never happen again. The fire service is a rescue service agency, and a rescue service agency is meant to be prepared for emergencies at all times.

“Those issues are not issues I want to discuss at the moment, but they are issues that we will take up and make sure that those things are corrected and we do not have repetition of such issues,” he said.

Akure branch of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Ondo State will honour the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, among others, as part of activities marking its annual Law Week.

Others to be honoured include the publisher of Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Sam Amuka-Pemu, popularly called ‘Uncle Sam’, who, alongside the ministers, will be decorated as a ‘Friend of the Bar.’

Speaking at a news briefing yesterday to herald the beginning of the Law Week, the Chairman of NBA Akure branch, Onimisi  Umar, said the recognition was in appreciation of the awardees’ outstanding contributions and support for the legal profession in the state.

He says this year’s Law Week has the theme: “Nigeria: Quest for a Utilitarian Judiciary and Roles for Stakeholders,” and will feature a keynote lecture to be delivered by former minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode.

Umar said Senator Bode Olajumoke, a former lawmaker who represented Ondo North, would be honoured as the grand patron of the branch in recognition of his donation of a relaxation centre to the association.

He said the week-long activities began yesterday and would end on Friday with a special prayer session at the Government House Mosque.

“In the evening of Thursday, we’ll be having our Law Dinner and Award Night at the Dome by 6pm, where we’ll party and recognise many of our members and indigenes of Ondo State.

“If the process is defective, the products will be too. The amendment of the Electoral Act is ongoing, and our communiqué at the end of the Law Week will capture our recommendations to the government and policy makers.”

He said part of the discussions would centre on streamlining pre-election litigations, noting that internal party disputes often escalated unnecessarily to the Supreme Court.
