    Aladura churches on schoolgirls’ abduction

As the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State on April 15 enters its fourth month, the United Aladura Churches (UAC) have described the act as political. They added, however, that with prayers, the girls will soon re-unite with their parents alive.

Addressing reporters on their 8th anniversary programme, President of the UAC, Superior Evangelist Olatunde Banjo, said: “What we can do is to pray for the safe return of the kidnapped girls and that such should not happen again. And that is what the church has been doing”.

The man of God said if not for prayers, peace and prosperity would have completely eluded Nigeria. The church, he said, is led by the Spirit of God which nobody can control; adding that with prayers, God can change His mind on negative prophesies as well as change the minds of men to do His will.

He said the UAC is not happy at the state of affairs of the country, but it can only pray for its leaders and for a better country. “God loves Nigeria that is why we are still one big, united great country,” the cleric said.

That is why He blessed Nigeria with clement weather, good soil, water and mineral resources. That is why some of us would say; God is a Nigerian”, Superior Evangelist Banjo said.

On the reason why most Christians are not in politics, Banjo argued that the reason could be that because politics as it is being practiced in Nigeria cannot co-exist with the Spirit of God. Quoting Psalm 24, he said a heaven-bound Christian will not be able to be part of the politics of this country.

The 8th anniversary programme of the United Aladura Churches include a revival service on Thursday, July 24 at the Gymnastic Hall of the National Stadium by 5pm; a seminar on Friday, July 25 at the CCC Agidingbi Cathedral, off Amaraolu Street (First Gate), Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos by 1 pm and a Thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 26 at the same venue by 11 a.m.

Representatives of the C&S church, Church of the Lord (Aladura), the Celestial Church of Christ, K&S church and Independent white garment churches which make up the UAC at the press briefing included Baba AladuraFunsho Andrew, VSP M.O. Ajao, Mother Capt. YetundeUkiri-Esho, MSE M.A. Durowoju, MC Bola Sodeinde, Snr Sup Akinosho and a host of others.

  • GES’ll boost fish production, says UAC boss

The Federal Government’s aquaculture Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GES) can allieviate food shortages and increase fish production, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of UAC Nigeria Plc, Mr Larry Ettah, has said

He said though the scheme is commendable, the government should put in place policy incentives to boost local production of fish feed.

He spoke at the endorsement ceremony of Grand Cereal’s ‘Vital fish feed’ by the Catfish Farmers Association of Nigeria (CAFAN) in Lagos.

Ettah said investment in aquaculture, if well harnessed, has the potential to reduce the fish supply deficit estimated at 1.9 million metric tonnes per year, which makes the country spends N125 billion per year on fish importation.

He said: “This potential cannot and will not be realised without a strong and vibrant local fish feed industry, which Vital fish feed wants to address, as the imported fish feed brands entering the country are not only expensive, lack freshness due to number of days spent on sea, but also a huge drain on the country’s scarce foreign exchange and a leakage in the aquaculture value chain.”

Ettah, who was represented by the Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr G. Dada, said the endorsement by the association is a culmination of rigorous technical and laboratory analyses carried out by CAFAN on Vital Fish feed as well as the experential testimonies of fish farmers across the country.

The National President, CAFAN, Chief Tayo Akingbolagun, said Grand Cereal limited’s Vital Fish feed, met the criteria of the association, as testing had been on since 2012, when the company approached it for the endorsement.

He advocated more local fish feed company, saying the opportunities in the industry were enormous as the country’s fisheries resources is estimated at four million metric tons per year and if properly harnessed, is capable of meeting the local fish demand and generating surplus for export.

Restating their level of preparedness to be the country’s leading local fish feed manufacturer, the Managing Director, Grand Cereals limited, Mr Layi Oyatoki, said the 3,000 metric tonne per year capacity fish feed plant set up in Jos, Plateau State in 2007, has grown to 30,000 metric tonnes per annum as a result of investments.

Oyatoki said: “The endorsement will not make the company complacent but more determined to grow the fisheries industry as the dream is to see a day when there will be no need to import a single bag of fish feed into the country”.Grand Cereal is a subsidiary of UAC Nigeria Plc.”

  • UAC invests millions as Soccer LA1/2 Lines berths

UAC Nigeria has invested an undisclosed amount in a new football and comedy show soon to go live on national and private television stations across the country.

Although the exact figure was not disclosed, NationSport understands that the investment runs into millions of naira

Executive Director, Corporate Services at UAC Nigeria, Joe Dada, who disclosed this to NationSport yesterday in Lagos at the unveiling of ‘UAC Soccer LA1/2 Lines’, said the new 30 minutes’ fans participatory show will be transmitted from next-week on a good number of electronic media.

Dada said the latest return of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative is leveraging on sport, especially the round-leather-game to give Nigerian fans more than the exciting moments that comes with and also educate the general public on some intrinsic rules guiding national and international football competitions.

“I can’t disclose the millions we are investing in ‘UAC Soccer LA1/2 Lines’ television broadcast show, but I can assure you that it will be sustained beyond the years after the 2014 World Cup on more than five television stations, so you can estimate the huge resources that have gone into it.

“We are ready to do more because of the passion of Nigerians in the game. We have brought a top-class comedian and a seasoned sport analyst as host anchor for the ‘soccertainment’ show which will run every 8:30 pm on Mondays in various NTA networks and also every Saturday at 11:30 am on DSTV, STV stations.”

The intense excitement experienced by some fans during live football matches is a potential health hazard because of the risk of heart attacks or hypertension, but, according to Dada, the content of the soccertainment programme is comic relief starting from- Line Up- the summary of the programme rundown for the week;- On The Pitch- the panoramic view and detailed analysis of core issues, From Brazil- the segment dedicated to activities around FIFA’s Brazil 2014 World Cup to -Catch Them young – the last segment of the show.

Prime Media director and veteran sport analyst Taye Ige, the brain behind the content and composition of the project, said football-loving Nigerians should look forward to exciting, informative and educating time on the broadcast.
