Ugwuanyi has wiped away Enugu people’s tears, says PDP

The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for “wiping tears from the faces of the people”.

The party’s State Chairman Augustine Nnamani spoke at Ikem and Nkwo Nike during the inauguration of newly elected PDP executives in Isi-Uzo and Enugu East local government areas.

The chairman said the governor’s developmental strides and peace initiatives had made it easy for the party to reposition.

Nnamani said Ugwuanyi had kept his campaign promises through massive road construction with drainages, new classroom blocks for public schools and other infrastructure, especially in the rural areas.

He said: “In Enugu, we don’t have a need for another party because the governor has put smiles on the faces of the people. We believe in what we see. Nobody will bring propaganda here because the government is doing well.”

The chairmen of the two local governments, Benjamin Edoga (Isi-Uzo) and Prince Cornelius Nnaji (Enugu East), hailed the governor for his development efforts.

They pledged their commitment for the administration’s Four-Point Agenda.

The council chairmen said they would continue to support and work for PDP’s progress and its administration, adding that the party had come to stay in the state.

Other dignitaries at the events included Speaker Edward Ubosi, other council chairmen, Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chijioke Edeoga; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Emeka Madu and PDP Exco members.

Ugwuanyi prays for Nigeria as Kumuyi visits Enugu

Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi yesterday offered special prayers for God’s intervention in the economic and social challenges facing the country.

The governor played the role of a cleric when he hosted the Founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William F. Kumuyi and his entourage at the Government House in Enugu.

Kumuyi told Ugwuanyi of the church’s leadership conference holding in the state.

The governor, in his supplication to God, asked for the wisdom, power and courage to continue to discharge his responsibilities effectively.

He said the conference was an opportunity to re-present to God the challenges facing the country under President Muhammadu Buhari and Enugu State under his leadership.

Urging members of the church to always remember Enugu State and the nation in prayers, Ugwuanyi, who reaffirmed his belief in the miracle of five loaves and two fish, expressed optimism that “miracles will begin to happen at the end of your stay here”.

The governor said God is the source of his position, adding that with prayers from the church and other residents, his administration would succeed.

He said: “God, our Father, all authority comes from You and You give leaders wisdom with which to govern Your people. You also strengthen them with power and courage. Lord, I ask for the wisdom, power and courage to be able to execute this office.

“All the challenges facing us, both as a state and as a nation, are known to You and we firmly believe that yYou will see us through, for You are our stronghold; without You, we can do nothing.”

Kumuyi thanked the governor for hosting his delegation, despite his tight schedule.

The cleric told the governor that he and his entourage were in Enugu for a pastoral visit, which would enable the church transmit God’s messages to Africa and other parts of the world.Enugu (2)

Ugwuanyi initiates bill on ownership of Rangers

It was a cheery news for sports enthusiasts in Enugu state last Thursday night as Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi unveiled the insignia of the state’s sports festival during a sports summit, announcing that he was initiating a bill to the state House of Assembly for adequate funding of the Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, among others.

Governor Ugwuanyi explained that the initiative was to liberalize the ownership of the club in such a manner that interested members of the public could easily become co-owners of the football club which for decades has remained the toast of sports lovers in the state and beyond.

Elated foodball administrator and chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Pinnick Amaju, who attended the event at the Dome Events Centre, Enugu, commended the governor for the initiative, saying that “this is a digital thinking on the part of the governor of Enugu state to initiate this kind of bill for the funding of a football club.

“Your Excellency, what you have done that attracted me is the bill you are sending to the House of Assembly to give future to Rangers and other hopeless people. It is a bill that will reward you. Rangers is one of the biggest and best brands we have in this country.

“When passed into law, this will enhance sports development in the state and make Rangers Football Club the richest clubside in the country”, said the NFF chairman who addressed the gathering of sports lovers and government officials present during the sports summit also attended by Fani Amun.

Ugwuanyi urges teachers to perform or be sacked

Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi yesterday said his administration will not condone any teacher who constitutes a cog in the wheel of the state’s education progress.

The governor gave the warning in Nsukka at the grand-finale of a quiz competition he co-sponsored, under the auspices of Ochudo Foundation, with Chinedu Nwamba, representing Nsukka East in the House of Assembly.

The competition, which involved 32 secondary schools in Nsukka Local Government Area, ended with Community Secondary School, Agu Umabor, as the champion, while Community Secondary School, Ede-Oballa, was second.

Computer sets and cash prizes were given to the two schools.

The third-place winner, St. Cyprians’ Special Science School, also got a computer set.

Ugwuanyi, who was represented by Education Commissioner Prof. Uche Eze, said his administration was passionate about education and would not allow any teacher to frustrate such efforts.

He said: “The current administration in Enugu State is determined to restore education to its former enviable height. That is why teachers must know that it is no longer business as usual.

“As a teacher in this state, you must not just go to school but you must teach. Anything short of that, we shall push you away and employ those ready to work.”

Ugwuanyi lauds Life In My City trustees

Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has expressed delight at the activities of the Life In My City Festival (LIMCAF), a private initiative that promotes creativity among Nigerian youths. The Governor, who hosted members of the Board of Trustees of the festival at his Lion House office in Enugu, urged the board to keep him informed about the progress of their preparations for this year’s special anniversary edition which will end on October 29.

The  courtesy call was led by the board Chairman Elder K. U. Kalu, a former Chairman of Union Bank and Managing Director Skoup,  accompanied by Chief Loretta Aniagolu a member of the Governor’s Economic Advisory Team and Principal Partner, FIT Consult, Chairman of the State Council for Arts and Culture, Dr. Obiora Anidi; a Chief Lecturer and Head, Department of Graphic Design IMT and Art Director of the Festival, Mr. Ayo Adewunmi, CEO Artsaels Ltd Mr. Tayo Adenaike, Mr Chuka Orji, son and representative of the Founder of Life In My City, Chief Robert Orji and Mr Kevin Ejiofor, a former Director-General FRCN and Executive Director of the Festival.

The trustees briefed the governor about the aims, objectives and vision of the festival which is not just a youth empowerment project but also a burgeoning national and international art and culture tourism destination and therefore a future source of significant contribution to the GDP of Enugu State and Nigeria.

In a presentation, Mr. Kevin Ejiofor explained that this year’s edition would be the 10th anniversary of the Festival at which past winners and donors and other specially invited prominent guests were expected.

He spoke on past winners of the festival’s overall prize who are now significantly advancing their careers in various ways. Such winners he said, included Mr. Olamide Oresegun the Festival’s first overall winner in 2007 as a student at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos and Ngozi Omeje now a Phd student at the University of Nigeria who also later won the Nigerian Breweries National Art Competition.

Mr. Ejiofor disclosed that LIMCAF was now seeking a working partnership with the Institute of Management and Technology Enugu to become the intellectual home of the festival as it now seeks to deepen and broaden its impact in contemporary art in the Nigerian and international art world.

“Enugu State young artists have won the overall prize at four of the nine editions of the Festival so far,” he added.

According to Ejiofor, the festival has hosted some high profile art personalities in its panels of judges including professors of art in premier institutions in Nigeria and Africa, internationally renowned gallery operators, contemporary art scholars and promoters, high profile studio artists such as Jerry Buhari, Chike Aniakor, Kunle Filani, Bisi Silva, Frank Ugiomoh, Ayo Aina, Muhammed Muazu, Tony Okpe, Obiora Anidi, Nsikka Essien and Jacob Jari.

He noted that the most interesting development in recent years is the endowment of prizes by prominent families, individuals and institutions including the Justice Anthony Aniagolu prize, the Pius Okigbo Prize, the Centre for Contemporary Art prize, the Mfon Usoro Prize, and the Thought Pyramid Art Gallery Prize among others.

  • Ugwuanyi: Preparing Nsukka for greater tomorrow

Ugwuanyi: Preparing Nsukka for greater tomorrow

There is no gain-saying that the homogenous area, Nsukka northern part of Enugu State, home of the University of Nigeria,  has begun wearing a new look, befitting of such a unique citadel of learning. It is not just a white wash or coating the Nsukka city, the old Provincial headquarters now politically christened Enugu North Senatorial Zone, with artificial paints nay coloration.

No. This time, it is real and visible that in less than a year on the saddle at the Independence Layout office of the government, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has left no one in doubt that he meant business to get Nsukka ready for a possible creation of Adada State, whenever the whistle is blown, even if it is subconsciously.

In the governor’s kit are various stages of construction work reaching very advanced levels of completion viz: the dualisation of the popular Opi junction road on the Enugu-Obolloafor Expressway into the heart of Nsukka town; Carving out and Creating a new city with Edeobala as a cosmopolitan city strengthening the wings of the parent town of Nsukka and the Ring Road running through Udenu, which invariably would decongest and make for smooth traffic control and of course the aesthetics of a beauty to complement.

Some of us who are dye-in-the wool ‘Adadaist’ pardon such coinage, believe that as a true son of Nsukka, he has done us proud so far. No governor in the history of eastern region of old had ever lifted this serene area blessed by a wonderful cold and soothing climate all the year round like the Shere Hills of Jos Plateau.

From day one, immediately he was sworn in, he addressed the people of the state and also the State House of Assembly seeking their cooperation and understanding of a special touch for Nsukka and the ageless dangerous 9th Mile Corner. He would take the scare of bad roads and give the 9th Mile bend a more tolerable road and the governor, in less than a year after, is fulfilling this promise. Even with these two outstanding areas, Nsukka and the 9th Mile Corner/Ezeagu axis, he has not neglected other towns and zones in the state.

He has awarded over 23 road contracts and bridges amongst others, including on-going construction of nine major urban and rural roads in three senatorial districts of the state, which are at different stages of concrete and pavement works, asphalting despite the harsh economic situation in the country. Of course his recent pronouncement of voting N600 million to develop Nkanu East Local Government, no doubt shows his concern for all and not a sectional leader.

Be that as it may, this writer is imploring the governor to go ahead and do more surface repairs on the roads within Nsukka town proper, the annex and access roads are in terrible state, the outlets and other vital roads should be repaired urgently to complement his good work.

He should not shy away from championing the cause of Adada people for a state of its own. If his predecessor, Barrister Sullivan Chime, from Udi reinvigorated the Adada State Movement under the headship of Retired General Godwin Ugwuoke, Ugwuanyi should, as a matter of urgency, take the bull by the horn. He has assailable contacts and reach nationwide. Having served the country meritoriously, legislating as Member of the House of Representatives for decades at the National Assembly and heading very key committee sectors of the economy; he should have the midas touch enabling Adada State return to the front burner once more.

A very opportune time as consideration of the last National Constitutional Conference was equivocal about balancing the injustice of giving the eastern states another state to make the number to six states.

From days of yore at the Tafawa Balewa Square then Lagos office of the National Assembly, the leaders from Adada, led by suave Engineer Ben Okwor, with the deputy, late Chief Igwe Charles Abangwu and Secretary Dr. Joe Asogwa and supported by the Nwodo brothers – Dr Joe, Okwi and Nnia and even their elder sister, Mrs. Grace Obayi, then a commissioner, the  Professor Ochos, the Opatas, Senator Cletus and Damian, late Willy Emeka Agbo and Eze Arinze and this writer with their able legislators, late Senator Isaiah Ani,  Mrs. Justina Eze, late Frank Ugwu, to name a few, presented the Memorandum for the creation of Adada State before Senator Joe Wayas, then President of the Senate.

After the popular  Umukanka Treaty duly signed at Umukanka Hall in Nsukka,  the Nsukka people burst into the chart and had the prerequisites – land mass, food basket, coal, limestone/cement, kerosine/oil, aluminum, human and natural resources, a university town and was as qualified and even more than states that scaled the hurdles. At the time Ebonyi State was finally created, Adada on the balance sheet was primus but was denied. It came up again as recurring decimal before the committee of the whole House of Representatives and amongst other agitators from the Ibo speaking area, Adada again came first.

In spite of the down turn in the economy, it should not be a reason to deny a people their wish and aspiration. Adada State has all the potentials for a successful state. It can source its revenue and employ its teeming youths. The people are homogeneous and friendly and would be quick to sort themselves out without bickering and angst.

The onus lies now on the governor to oil this wheel and get cracking immediately. He should ensure that the infrastructure of Nsukka is full swing and brought to standard. History is replete with leaders who have begun, like the proverbial charity begins at home by ensuring that their courtyards back home can be an Eldorado. There are no apologies about this stance.

As this was being concluded, a body, Gov. Ugwuanyi’s Progressive Movement, headed by a Princess Ugwuanyi, no blood relationship, has begun a self-propelled sensitisation of the people of Nsukka on the very noble objectives of the governor and his projections for the people of the state. One gathers she would be carrying the message to all the wards in the 17 local governments in the state.

Howbeit a wonderful moment to also drum the salient message to all Igbos and Nigerians on the need to balance the equation, right the wrong and create Adada State, for Nsukka is as ready as before. The clarion call: Let My People Go as Nsukka’s Adada State curly deserved and merited.

  • Ugwuanyi to inaugurate roads to mark anniversary

Ugwuanyi to inaugurate roads to mark anniversary

The Enugu State Urban Renewal Committee has said Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi will inaugurate some roads across the state as part of the activities marking his one year in office.

The committee’s chairman, Chris Offor, spoke during the inspection of some of the roads.

He hailed the governor for his development initiatives and commitment to his campaign promises, despite the current economic challenges in the country.

Offor said Ugwuanyi recorded remarkable feats, especially in infrastructural development, because of his passion for good governance and steadfastness to ameliorate the sufferings of the people.

The chairman, who expressed delight over the performance of the construction companies, which completed their projects for the inauguration, noted that this followed the importance the governor attached to prompt delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.

According to him, the Nike Lake Road and Amaeke-Ngwo-Nsude-9th Mile By-pass Road, built by Setraco Nigeria Limited and CCC Nigeria Limited, had been completed for inauguration.

  • I weep with Ugwuanyi

    I weep with Ugwuanyi

This column has not paid much attention to the government of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Governor of Enugu State, since May 29, 2016 perhaps because the man fondly called gburugburu by his admirers is less hawkish than his predecessors. Indeed, I have heard many say that he is a friend to all, and that explains his fond name which can be approximated to a ‘A Man of the People’. Well, I know that the protagonist in that Chinua Achebe’s fictional work, is not a character any Nigerian politician would openly embrace; so I take back my interpretation, more so now that the governor and the state he governs has been thrown into mourning by their bloodsucking guests.

But before the so-called herdsmen brought their killing prowess into Enugu State, I came closest to writing on Ugwuanyi’s performance in office few weeks ago following the Enugu Investment Summit – tagged – Beyond Oil: Fostering Inclusive Economic Growth and Sustainable Development, organized by Ike Chioke and his OGANIRU group. The conference according to Chioke, a member of the state economic advisory committee, was organized to “highlight Enugu’s prospects as a business destination while exploring the state’s potential in a wide range of industries.” Judging by the quality of the attendees and the philosophy behind it, I guess it can be described as a modest achievement. This column had in the past advised the south-east governors to coalesce and organize a common economy devoid of partisanship.

So, while congratulating Governor Ugwuanyi, Ike Chioke and their team for the re-awakening, there is the need for them to expand the horizon to include other south-east states if the zone wants to spectacularly succeed despite the debilitating odds fostered by the misguided federal system that we ape. While awaiting the joint ventures, if I were Governor Ugwuanyi, I would concentrate my effort on nurturing agriculture and agro-allied industries considering the potential advantages the state has in this area. With adequate incentive, investment and organisation, the state’s Gross Domestic Product can be doubled in a few years if rice, cassava and yam farming is successfully promoted.

As the Governor probably knows, the south-east’s fertile belt stretches from Adada through Olo, both in Enugu State, all the way to Anambra state and beyond. Sometimes I imagine the potentials of small scale industries, processing rice, yam, cassava, rice flour, yam flour, cassava flour and canned varieties, all along that fertile part. Still talking about agro-allied industries, I earnestly wish that Governor Ugwuanyi would resuscitate cashew farming, production and processing which is concentrated around Oghe and its environs.

Should the Nigerian political elite, decide to release our dear country from the centralized vice-grip, and allow the decentralization of the modern factors of production, Uwuanyi and other governors of the zone can jointly produce the much-needed electricity, to power the farms and industries; develop a complementary rail line and other infrastructure, for the movement of the work-force, the produce and products, for local consumption and export earnings. But of course, the modern factors of production, like electricity and the rail line, are the exclusive preserve of the federal government and until the misguided elites across the regions come to their senses, state and regional economies and the attendant social security would remain a mirage.

But it appears the modest efforts of Governor Ugwuanyi to chart a new economy for Enugu State would also turn a mirage should the bloodsucking herdsmen be allowed to fester unhindered by the failing Nigerian state. Barely few days, after showcasing Enugu State as an investment haven, Governor Ugwuanyi led another delegation to weep at the scene of a catastrophe, planned and executed by those who are supposedly doing business in his state. The people of Ukpabi Nimbo, who had their men, women and children slaughtered, for no cause at all, must be wandering at these wicked and malicious visitors who feed on their farms, their blood and their property.

As Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, publicly wept, many Nigerians, including this writer, wept with him. As the Nigeria in many Nigerians die slowly, the accused Fulani herdsmen, have vowed that no force can stop them from feeding on the lives of their fellow countrymen for all to have a country. For these terrorists who pretend to be herdsmen, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria allows them unfettered access to roam the countryside, sucking the blood of others, as the price for nationhood. Without his saying so, the governor was obviously crying at his helplessness despite the false robe of the state’s chief security officer that he wears.

Before him, Governor, now Senator Jonah Jang had cried at similar helplessness, when Plateau State was turned to a killing field, by similar strange visitors. Not long ago, former Senate President, David Mark had cried like a baby over similar mindless killings in Agatu, Benue State. There again, Senator Mark was helpless, despite his pretensions to a high office, as representative of his people.  Over that same issue, the present Governor Samuel Ortom, like his immediate predecessor, Gabriel Suswan, had ran to Aso rock, in such a terrible haste, crying over his helplessness. Before the people of Ukpabi Nimbo community were mindlessly killed, they were put on notice. According to one George Ajogu, their spokesman, “Because we lack security, the Fulani come here and tell us the land is theirs. They tell the farmers to kneel down and they rape the women in front of their husbands”.

This column had on March 8, taken a hard knock on the emerging cruelty of the Fulani herdsmen in Agatu, among other issues, in an article titled: Authority to rape and maim. One reader had reacted angrily, prompting my apologies, even when I considered my premise, which is, the urgent need for President Muhammadu Buhari to speak truth to the herdsmen, despite his filial relationship with them. Unfortunately, it took the lives of more 48 men, women and children, murdered in cold blood, to attract the attention of the President, and the federal executive council that he controls. Worse still, Mr Ugwuanyi has also publicly asserted that he alerted the federally controlled security agencies in the state, yet the Nigerian state allowed this cruelty against the people of Ukpabi Nimbo.

Now that the President has reportedly given a marching order to the national security agencies, let’s hope that they would bring the perpetrators to account. I hope that those who are in charge of our failing state would appreciate the enormity of the challenges ahead. To underestimate the grave danger posed by the blood-thirsty herdsmen is to chisel at the very foundation of country. The generation which has lost loved ones in Nimbo, Agatu, and other similar communities may have been lost permanently from the Nigerian project.

Indeed, any person who is not appalled by the share audacity of the so-called herdsmen and is not fearful of the apparent incapacity of the Nigerian state to protect its citizens from them is an incurable optimist. Should the federal government continue to give these murderers kid-glove treatment, the fearful Boko Haram terror organization may as well hide under it to maim, kill and destroy, knowing that they are untouchables.

  • Enugu workers absolve Ugwuanyi of misusing bailout cash

Enugu workers absolve Ugwuanyi of misusing bailout cash

Enugu State workers, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC) have debunked a statement by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) that the state government misapplied Federal Government’s bailout fund to settle outstanding salaries and pensions.

The unions noted that “Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, from onset, involved the organised labour in the management of the N4.207 million bailout fund, being the actual amount approved for the state for the settlement of outstanding salaries and pensions of the public servants”.

They said the state government did not misapply the fund, as ICPC reportedly said.

The ICPC had listed Enugu State among the states that allegedly misapplied Federal Government’s bailout funds meant to offset backlog of workers’ salaries and pensions.

Reacting to the allegation in a statement jointly signed by NLC State Chairman Virginus C. Nwobodo; TUC/JPSNC Chairman Igbokwe Chukwuma Igbokwe and JPSNC Secretary Theo. O. Obasiani described the allegation as “false and misleading”.

They also called it a “deliberate attempt to instigate workers and good people of Enugu State against the state government as well as tarnish the good image of the state”.

The statement added: “The Organised Labour in Enugu State is seriously embarrassed by the false, unfounded and malicious publication purported to have emanated from the office of the ICPC.”

“A committee, comprising Labour and government was set up to verify, monitor and disburse the funds to the beneficiaries.

“As at the time referred to by the newspaper publication of (February 29), over 60 per cent of the fund has been disbursed to the beneficiaries on items A – D…, while the verification and disbursement is still ongoing till May 31, as some of the beneficiaries (pensioners) are yet to show up for verification.”

Expressing its satisfaction with the management of the N4.207 billion bailout fund for the payment of arrears of pensions and salaries, Labour pledged to partner the state government for good governance and sustainable development.

Also, the Enugu State Government, through its Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Elder Gabriel Ajah, denied the alleged misapplication of the bailout fund.

It presented a detailed account of how the fund was disbursed, saying the government did not misapply the cash.

  • Ugwuanyi and participatory democracy

    Ugwuanyi and participatory democracy

ENUGU State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has continued to display a deep sense of vision and tenacity in navigating the state through the current economic recession, caused by the nation’s mono-economy.

Anchored on grassroots development initiative, he has continued to take development closer to the rural areas, where the majority of the people reside.

This style of governance has rekindled the confidence of Enugu people in participatory. This is because Ugwuanyi has, through the commencement of the process for the award of more development projects in rural areas, demonstrated the resolve of his government to champion a new order of development trajectory that would not only turn the rural areas into a beehive of modern infrastructure but also reposition the areas for huge economic benefits.

This explains why many agree that his award of about 23 road contracts, two bridges and other infrastructure, in the face of the prevailing economic challenges, is a demonstration of high level of commitment to the advancement of good governance. Such an achievement must be rooted on deep intellectual and ideological foundation and good planning.

Such a foundation is the just concluded first Enugu State Investment Summit, christened ‘Oganiru,’ which attracted both national and international investors to the state to explore its huge economic potentials for socio-economic revival. May I note here that the well-attended and fruitful summit has set a new agenda for the economic rebirth of not only Enugu State but also the entire South-East geo- political zone.

The governor, while declaring open the summit, stated that “the theme of this summit, “Beyond Oil: Fostering Inclusive Economic Growth and Sustainable Development, amply reflects the compelling need for deliberate policy shifts that would enable us as a nation, recover quickly from the crushing effects of the current developments in the oil market (upon which we had depended for so long) and open up new and even more profitable and sustainable pedestals for rapid economic development.”

He said he was proud that the historic event, which hosted an avalanche of top international business moguls, such as Mr. Tony Elumelu, Chairman of United Bank for Africa and Heirs Holdings Limited,  Mr. Pascal Dozie, founder and former Chairman of Diamond Bank Plc, the Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of Airpeace Airlines, Chief Allen Onyema, investers from China, Ireland, Japan, South Africa, among others, happened under his watch as the Governor of Enugu State and with less than five months to the Silver Jubilee of the state.”

It will therefore, not be out of place to pronounce that the governor’s well thought-out measures will yield the desired positive results and engineer a process of rapid economic rebirth.

It is also pertinent to appreciate the fact that while about 27, out of 36 states, have difficulty in paying basic salaries of their workers,  Ugwuanyi has remained committed to prompt  payment of workers’ salaries.

On infrastructural development, in addition to the on-going construction of over nine major urban and rural roads in the three senatorial districts of the state, which are at the stages of concrete and pavement works (asphalting), the state has made tremendous progress in other aspects of development in the areas of education, healthcare delivery, agriculture, security and other social services.

According to the state commissioner for works and infrastructure, Hon. Patrick Ikpenwa, the intending projects are “in line with the grassroots development policy of the Government of Enugu State to construct and rehabilitate some infrastructural projects in the state”.

Some Enugu State indigenes commended the governor’s grassroots development initiatives. They include Hon. Ekene Nnamani, an indigene of Amechi-Idodo in Nkanu East Local Government Area and Engr. Uchenna Ekpete, from Aninri Local Government Area.”

While declaring the economic summit closed, Ugwuanyi said:  “Enugu State will never be same again for we have not only successfully showcased the vast potentials of the state to the global business world but, from the reactions of participants, it does appear that we have been able to provoke an unprecedented interest from investors across the world.”

In all, it is indeed evident from the foregoing that the economic rebirth of Enugu State and the entire South-East has begun. It is therefore the responsibility of the people of Enugu State to continue to support the governor’s sound vision for the state.– –Amoke writes from Enugu.
