  • ‘Ugwuanyi has transformed Enugu with meagre resources’

    Chairman of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Board, Enugu State, Suleman Umar, has praised Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the visible transformation his administration has brought to the state despite meagre resources.

    Umar, who spoke when he led the management and members of the UNTH board on a courtesy visit to the Government House, described Ugwuanyi as an “action governor” whose humility remains a shining example.

    He said: “I have seen for myself that you are an achiever. You have achieved so much with the meagre resources at your disposal. While coming here, I saw a lot of your achievements in road construction, serene environment and could feel the peace you have enthroned.

    “I’m very impressed with what I saw in Enugu and have no doubt that your second term is guaranteed. I wish there could be a change in the constitution so you can go for a third term.”

    Ugwuanyi thanked the delegation for the visit, explaining that it offers an ample opportunity to explore areas of cooperation for mutual benefits.

    The governor hailed the hospital’s management and board for the strides the institution has recorded in medicine, and urged them not to relent. He also assured them of his government’s continued collaboration.

    “My administration will continue to partner federal agencies in Enugu State, including UNTH, in our desire to render selfless service to our people. As a government, we have always collaborated with the UNTH, and we will continue to consolidate this relationship,” he added.

  • Workers hail Ugwuanyi for paying June salary

    Workers of Enugu State have hailed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for paying their June salaries without federal allocation.

    A statement by the Chairman and Secretary of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Igbokwe Chukwuma Igbokwe and Benneth Asogwa, said they were humbled by the governor’s in-depth commitment towards workers’ welfare which, according to them, “has distinguished you among your other colleagues and predecessors”.

    According to them, Ugwuanyi had displayed a similar gesture several times since the inception of his administration. “This particular one is happening at a time when some governors have publicly said they cannot pay June salaries because of the non-release of federal allocation,” they noted.

  • Ugwuanyi: we paid June salaries without federal allocation

    Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has said the government paid June salaries without receiving the Federal allocation.

    He added that his administration has been paying salaries regularly despite assuming office when the economy was in severe recession.

    The governor spoke at an endorsement rally for his re-election by the people of the “Ancient Opi N’Ato Kingdom” in Opi, Nsukka Local Government Area.

    Ugwuanyi attributed his administration’s success to God’s grace and commitment to the people’s wellbeing.

    He reassured the people that his administration will continue to cater for them and initiate programmes that would address their needs.

    Governor Ugwuanyi thanked the people for their support, solidarity and endorsement, and urged them to embrace peace and unity for rapid development.

    “What is paramount to us is good governance and development of the rural areas,” he stressed.

    President-General of the Federated Opi Town Union Sam Ugwuoti hailed Ugwuanyi for his works, especially “the beautification and rehabilitation of the Opi/Nsukka road into a modern dual-carriageway with street lights”.

    Ugwuoti assured the governor that the people of Opi “will continue to support you” and come 2019, God will still keep you in your seat as the governor”.

  • PFN hails Ugwuanyi

    THE Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has described Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State as the best governor in the state since the return to democracy in 1999. Chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the PFN, Bishop Dr. Godwin Madu, said this shortly after he was inaugurated alongside 28 others for a second term in office. Bishop Madu described Ugwuanyi as ‘a good man’, who honours and worships God and “believes and recognises everybody. He said the PFN would do all within its powers to ensure that the governor is re-elected for a second term in office.

    Maintaining that governor has performed creditably well in office, the church leader said the governor had “ended all manner of discrimination against some section of Christians.” According to him:“The PFN was not carried along by the government of Enugu State in the past. But under this very administration, we have not been left behind. Everybody is being treated well in Enugu now unlike before. “I want everyone to ensure that we vote rightly. When we see something good, we need to say keep it up. Enugu State needs to go on and the PFN is saying that Governor Ugwuanyi should go on; we will not disappoint him.

  • Ugwuanyi best performing governor, says Nwodo

    Former Governor of old Enugu State and National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Okwesilieze Nwodo has declared Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi “the best performing governor in Nigeria”.

    Nwodo also described Ugwuanyi as “a humble, indefatigable, humane and outstanding manager of men and resources, for the development of Enugu State”.

    He spoke at a thanksgiving mass and endorsement rally for Ugwuanyi by his kinsmen from Orba Udulekenyi, Udenu Local Government Area.

    The former governor thanked the people for endorsing Ugwuanyi for a second term because of his performance and uncommon leadership style, describing it as a good omen for the state.

    He said: “We will not be tired of hailing your performance, praying for you and eulogising your uncommon leadership style”.

    Nwodo also urged the people to ensure they obtain their voters’ card and “join the PDP’s winning train to continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

    Rev. Fr. Emeka Ngwoke thanked God for using Ugwuanyi, saying “good leadership is truly manifesting in Enugu State”.

    The cleric thanked the governor’s humble and peaceful disposition, as well as his close relationship with the lowly and neglected, saying: “For once, our state now speaks and thinks as brothers and sisters”.

    The people of Orba, in an address delivered by the President-General, Orba Udu General Assembly, Chief Charles Mbah, said they are proud of their “illustrious son and a worthy ambassador”.

    They maintained that the governor “with his usual characteristics as a prudent, accountable and judicious manager of resources”, has entrenched peace and good governance in Enugu despite of the country’s challenges.

    Ugwuanyi’s kinsmen added that the governor, when other states could not pay workers’ salaries and were consequently downsizing the workforce, he was “recruiting additional workers, paying salaries promptly including the peculiar 13th month salary, which was paid across the entire state, including Primary School Teachers and Local Government Staff”.

    “It is against this background that Orba Udelekenyi is today giving her unalloyed endorsement/blessing to her illustrious son, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Nwa Orba Udu), to return to the Lion Building in 2019 and finish the good work he started,” they said.

  • Ugwuanyi offers scholarship to another 340 IMT students

    A few weeks after offering scholarship to 340 indigent students of the Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on Thursday granted yet another scholarship to 340 students of the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, at the cost of N54.4 million. The scholarship covers their tuition fees for four years of academic studies in all engineering programmes of the institution. The governor announced the scholarship when delivering the 4th Distinguished Academic Lecture of the institute, titled: “The place of good governance in achieving functional science and technology education in Nigeria”.

    He said that the decision was “in line with our policy of providing access to education at all levels to all strata of the society in all educational fields of engineering and technology.” He explained that the 340 beneficiaries of the scholarship will be spread across the 17 local government areas, resulting in 20 students per council. Ugwuanyi added that the gesture was “aimed at encouraging our people to do engineering and help position the state for rapid industrial development.”

    Delivering the lecture at held at IMT’s Conference Centre, and attended by dignitaries across the state and beyond, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi; the Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Priscilla Emehelu; the MD/CEO of Access Bank Plc, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, represented by Mr. Victor Etukudoh, among others, Ugwuanyi emphasized the importance of functional science and technology education towards national development and promotion of good governance. The governor stressed that “for every nation to get developed, the application of both science and technology has to go hand in hand”, adding that “villages are developed into towns and towns to cities and cities are expanding to greater horizons all because of science and technology”. According to him, “today, countries are classified as developed and developing countries based on economy and the application of science and technology. It goes without saying that a nation’s development and prosperity are judged to a large extent by the status of science and technology of the nation.”

  • Enugu East endorses Ugwuanyi for second term

    In what could be described as mother of rallies, the people of Enugu East Senatorial Zone of Enugu State trooped out in their large numbers for a solidarity rally in support of the re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his good works in the state.

    The people of Nkanuland through a motion moved by the former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, seconded by the former Military Administrator of Abia State, Col. Anthony Obi (rtd) and put to voice vote by the former Minister of Information, Frank Nweke unanimously endorsed Governor Ugwuanyi for a second term in office.

    They said that Governor Ugwuanyi has engendered peace and good governance in the state, adding that his “uncommon leadership style” has favoured the people of Nkanuland in so many ways.

    The colourful event, which was attended by other notable stateholders of the zone, such as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi; Senator Gil Emeka Nnaji and his colleagues in the National Assembly; members of the State Assembly and State Executive Council, Council Chairmen, including Lady Jane Nnamani, wife of the former President of the Senate, Senator Ken Nnamani, among others, also witnessed the presentation an endorsement register signed by the stakeholders of the zone.

    Responding, Governor Ugwuanyi thanked the people of Nkanuland for their support, solidarity, goodwill, prayers and endorsement, urging to intensify efforts towards the ongoing voters registration for continuation of good governance in Enugu State.

     

     

  • St. Theresa’s old boys honour Ugwuanyi

    The old boys of St. Theresa’s College (STC) in Nsukka, Enugu State, have held a reception for Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

    Tagged: Home coming of Governor Ugwuanyi, the reception attracted dignitaries from many places, including members of the school’s old boys’ association.

    They included Anambra State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sir Norbert Obi, and a three-time senator, Fidelis Okolo. The school’s head teacher Rev. Fr. Melitus Ezikanyi said it was the first time members of the old boys and those of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) were honouring a distinguished alumnus.

    He hailed Ugwuanyi for his administration’s achievements, such as empowerment of 1,000 youths and recruitment of 2,000 teachers and prompt payment of civil servants’ salary, despite the state’s dwindling revenue.

    The National President of the alumni association, Chief J. B. C. Okonkwo, thanked the residents for supporting the Ugwuanyi administration to implement its people-oriented programmes.

    He said the association was proud of the governor for being an outstanding performer and achiever.

    Ugwuanyi thanked the association and the school for the honour.

    He also thanked the school’s founding fathers for imparting enduring values, like hard work and discipline, among the members.

    He noted that such values enabled the former pupils to grow in their professions.

     

  • Private schools in Enugu endorse Ugwuanyi for 2nd term

    PROPRIETORS and teachers of private schools in Enugu State under the aegis of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), have unanimously endorsed the state governor, IfeanyiUgwuanyi, for a second term in office.

    The NAPPS said the endorsement is following “his good works in the state and the remarkable achievements of his administration in the education sector.”

    Rising from a colourful and a well-attended solidarity rally, which was tagged: “2019 Total Mandate for Governor Ifeanyi- Ugwuanyi – A time with His Excellency” and attended by NAPPS’ national leadership led by its President, Dame Dr. Sally Adukwu-Bolujoko, the proprietors, teachers, students and others assured the governor of “our unflinching support” in 2019.

    The jubilant private schools’ proprietors, teachers, others in an address by the State Chairman of NAPPS, Nonye Enemuo, said, they were pleased with the “all-inclusive governance of the governor anchored on “infrastructural development, welfare, healthcare, peace, education and promotion of both public and private institutions,” adding: “If we look back at your achievements so far, it would seem you have spent eight years already in office.”

    Responding, Ugwuanyi, appreciated the proprietors of the private schools and others for the rally and the demonstration of solidarity and support for his administration.

    He noted that the achievements of his administration in the education sector and other spheres of the economy was in keeping with the promise “to deploy government services to create fair and equal opportunity for every willing citizen to make a living and create wealth, educate our children, and enjoy life in a peaceful and secure environment”.

  • Excited Enugu workers, pensioners celebrate Ugwuanyi

    THERE was excitement in Enugu State as workers and pensioners converged on the popular Michael Okpara Square, Enugu to mark the 2018 Workers’ Day celebration, where they celebrated Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s achievements.

    The excited public and civil servants and retirees, including private workers, through the addresses presented separately by the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Virginus Nwobodo, represented by his deputy, Comrade Maurice Eze and his counterpart from the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Igbokwe Chukwuma Igbokwe, eulogised Ugwuanyi for his “exemplary leadership style” and “labour-friendly disposition”.

    They stated that the governor’s friendly disposition to their welfare was “the first of its kind since the inception of this state.

    The workers and retirees reiterated their stance on the earlier endorsement of Ugwuanyi’s re-election in 2019.

    According to the workers, “the reason for the clamour for continuity is based on the outstanding performances of your excellency.”

    They highlighted the remarkable achievements as “prompt payment of monthly salaries/pensions, other allowances to state public and civil servants; absorption of 54 per cent of total cost of 100 housing units at Elim Estate allocated to workers; payment of outstanding arrears of salaries/pensions/allowances to local government staff, through prudent utilisation of 100 per cent of local governments share of the Paris Club refunds; promotion of teachers and recruitment of over 4,000 school teachers as well as elongation of terminal grade of qualified primary school teachers to level 16”.

    Ugwuanyi, who felicitated with the workers, also joined them in the celebration.

    He said: “We are here to commemorate the sacrifices and contributions of the Nigerian workers to the development of the nation and particularly, to express our solidarity and sincere gratitude to the great workers of Enugu State”.
