Adiaiduo polled 589 votes to defeat his closest rival, Prof Aniekan Brown, who garnered 481 votes in the keenly contested election over the weekend.

Presenting the result, Chairman, Election Committee, Dr Odumayak Okpo who also announced winners for 15 other offices contested for, expressed satisfaction that  the process was kept  free, fair and credible.

In his acceptance speech, President Adiaiduo thanked colleagues for the trust placed in him and promised to fulfill his campaign promise of taking the association to new heights.

“I appreciate the confidence reposed in me and assure you that I will work tirelessly to justify the trust you’ve placed in me,” he stated.

Outgoing President Rt. Hon Onofiok Luke commended the association’s electoral umpire for conducting a credible election, one of his administration’s key targets.

Luke, a former House of Representatives member, highlighted notable achievements of his administration to  include influencing the Vice Chancellorship appointment, attracting projects from TETFUND, and providing scholarships to outstanding students.

“When the Vice Chancellorship position of this University was in contention, it was the voice of this association heard at the NUC that restored the Vice Chancellorship of Prof. Nyaudo Ndaeyo.

“And, in this same University, there were whole lot of things that we did. For the very first time in our Alumni Association, for three consecutive sessions, the best graduating students totalling forty-one of them were given two hundred thousand Naira each as scholarship and that money was paid.

“During COVID-19, three million Naira (N3,000,000.00) was given to the Faculty of Pharmacy by the alumni association for research”. He said

The former Akwa Ibom Speaker noted challenges faced by his administration, particularly the non-release of dues by the University’s consultant, which hindered project implementation.

He however expressed satisfaction that the University management had taken steps to address the issue, with the consultant being investigated by the EFCC and expected to remit approximately N40 million in owed dues.

“We could not carry on most of the projects because the consultant that the University gave to collect our dues, up until today, is still owing us about forty million Naira (N40,000,000.00).

“And today, I want to commend the management of the University led by Prof. Ndaeyo who had caused that man to be arrested and he’s been in the EFCC custody for the past three months. He will produce our dues totaling over N40m.”

Luke congratulated his successor and wished him well, while also urging the new administration to prioritize resolving the outstanding dues issue. “I congratulate Comrade Adiaiduo on his election and wish him success in his tenure. I hope he will build on the foundation laid by my administration and take the association to greater heights,” Luke stated.

‘UNIUYO graduate not a victim of organ harvesting’

The eldest sister of the late Iniubong Umoren, a 26-year-old Philosophy graduate of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has debunked claims her sister was a victim of organ harvesting.

Speaking at a news conference in Uyo, Ifiok Ephraim Umoren, sister of the deceased described the  allegation as “outrageous” and “deeply hurtful,” adding that she personally witnessed the autopsy, during which her sister’s  internal organs were confirmed intact.

The deceased was murdered on April 29, 2021 under the guise of a job interview.

The news conference was a response to recent claims by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in a viral audio-visual conversation with US-based activist Dr Sandra C. Duru, in which she alleged that Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, was involved in harvesting Iniubong’s organs to save his wife.

“How can someone claim that my sister’s organs were harvested when I was right there during the autopsy? This accusation is not only false but dishonours the memory of my sister and retraumatises our family.

“After her death, the police took the body for autopsy at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. I was present. No organ was missing,” she said.

The pathologist, Dr  Emeka Nwafor, who conducted the postmortem, also testified under oath in court in 2021 that while the body showed signs of decomposition and trauma, there was no evidence of organ removal.

Legal experts and family members are considering legal redress against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for spreading what they call “defamatory and destabilizing misinformation.”

Graduate demands N5billion from UNIUYO, special convocation over delayed degree result

A graduate of accounting from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom state,Uduakobong Peter Nquot has asked his alma mater to pay him the sum ofN5billion for delaying the release of his degree certificate for 10 years.

Narrating his ordeal to our correspondent in Uyo yesterday, Nquot saidhe was admitted into the University for a Degree Programme inaccounting through direct entry in the 2002/2003 academic year, but only got his degree result August this year.

His degree result which was sighted by the Nation in Uyo indicatesthat the Senate of the University of Uyo had approved Nquot’s resultsince 2008.

Speaking, Nquot lamented that the university omitted his name from the list of students who graduated in 2006/2007 batch, adding that he was denied the honour of graduating and participating in the convocation

    ceremony of that year.

Besides demanding for N5billion compensation for the wasted years andthe physiological trauma suffered over the years, Nquot with registration number 02/CE/BA/AC/007 has demanded that the university conducts a special convocation ceremony for him.

The aggrieved graduate of the UNIUYO said he was deceived for 10 years by the university into believing that he had failed some courses, and therefore was not eligible to be awarded a degree.

He said he did all his clearance and screening and was accordingly given a clean bill of health by all relevant departments of the school.

Nquot told the Nation that though the university did not publish results throughout his studentship in the school, he never failed any of his courses.

He said the University embarrassed him further when they told his parents that he had abandoned the programme mid-way, adding that for 10 years he was treated with disdain by friends and family as a result

    of the misinformation.

In a petition to the Vice-Chancellor of the UNIUYO dated 18th August, 2017, a copy which was obtained by our correspondent, Nquot stated that “I was deceived for many years that I had no result, and therefore could not graduate with my set of 2006/2007.

“All enquiries about my result proved abortive from the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Business Administration and the School of Continuing Education.

“In the year 2016, a staff of the University of Uyo in the School of Continuing Education deceived me that I had an outstanding course BNF 224, that I should apply to the Vice Chancellor for waiver in order to

    graduate.

“I promptly applied for a waiver “Application for Course Waiver’’ dated 12th May, 2016. In the course of following up my letter to the Senate, I saw my computed result from the Directorate of Academic

Affairs attached to my “Application for Course Waiver”.

Nquot said, “I was shocked to see that I had a Second Class Honours in Accounting and it became clear that something was being done to my result”.

He told the Nation that following a petition to the Vice-Chancellor of the University for his result to be released, he got a telephone on the 15th of August from Mrs. Akpan, Head of Exams Unit, requesting for

    his registration number.

“I met Mrs. Akpan on 24th August, 2017, who said “your result has been here for many years, you did not need to write all these letters” following which he obtained his degree result August this year.

When contacted the Registrar of the University, Mr. Aniediabasi Udoh absolved the institution of blame, and claimed Nquot never showed up to do his clearance for those number of years.

Udoh said Nquot only did his clearance in September hence the delay in the release of his result, adding that the ex-student also has issues with his course forms.
