VeryDarkman urged to be fair with Abike-Dabiri as NiDCOM boss recognized for major efforts against human trafficking

Following recent allegations of negligence in handling human trafficking cases, particularly from controversial social media activist VeryDarkMan, the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has received support from anti-human trafficking advocate and Cameroon-based publisher Ismaila Adegbola.

Adegbola, who leads the group Advocates Against Human Trafficking & Child Exploitation, urged critics—especially VeryDarkMan—to be fair in their assessment of Dabiri-Erewa’s efforts.

He highlighted her consistent commitment to addressing human trafficking and protecting Nigerians abroad, noting that her track record speaks for itself.

The controversy began when VeryDarkMan issued a one-week ultimatum to Dabiri-Erewa, demanding urgent action to rescue children allegedly trafficked to the Ivory Coast.

In response, Dabiri-Erewa dismissed the accusations as “misinformed and ignorant,” defending NIDCOM’s role and stating that such complex issues require coordination with multiple agencies.

The exchange has sparked a heated debate online, with Nigerians divided over where the responsibility lies for ensuring the safety and repatriation of citizens stranded overseas.

Adegbola emphasised that while it is important to hold public officials accountable, it is equally vital to recognize those who have consistently shown dedication to tackling human trafficking and protecting the rights of Nigerians in the diaspora.

He said, “Let’s focus on solutions, not blame; it is the responsibility of everybody to come out in unity in the fight against human trafficking,” said Adegbola.

“It is truly disheartening to witness the recent confrontation between social media activist Verydarkman and Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), especially on an issue as sensitive and heartbreaking as human and child trafficking in Côte d’Ivoire.”

“Last year, I embarked on an investigative mission to Côte d’Ivoire to document the harsh realities faced by many of our children and young girls trapped in modern slavery. What I encountered was devastating, and I believe this issue demands more than outrage — it requires strategic action, unity, and compassion.

“While Verydarkman may be passionate about justice, I must strongly caution against the tone and words used towards Hon. Abike Dabiri. From my experience, she has shown consistent concern for the welfare of Nigerians abroad. I vividly remember her swift and emotional response when I notified her office about the crisis in Côte d’Ivoire. She was deeply saddened and encouraged me to engage NAPTIP for further intervention. Though my repeated visits to NAPTIP were fruitless — a matter that must be addressed within that agency — it would be unfair to place the blame solely on her.

“I must also commend the Nigerian community and the Nigerian embassy in Côte d’Ivoire for their resilience and efforts so far in tackling this issue. They have shown leadership, compassion, and commitment in the face of a difficult situation.

“Let us remember: this is not a fight for one person or agency alone. This is our collective responsibility. It is time to channel our energies into meaningful partnerships. We must raise awareness, empower vulnerable communities, and demand reform at all institutional levels.”

Mercy Chinwo: VeryDarkMan reacts to arrest warrant, alleges conspiracy

Social critic Martin Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has reacted to a court order for his arrest over alleged defamation of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

In a video response, he accused the judiciary of attempting to silence him, alleging a conspiracy involving corrupt judges and lawyers.

VeryDarkMan claimed he is currently not in Nigeria and pointed out that he has a pending case in the same court, which he has never missed.

He questioned the legitimacy of the arrest order, insisting it is a move to suppress his voice.

He further revealed that another court had issued an injunction preventing him from discussing Mercy Chinwo and Eezee Tee, which he believes is part of an effort to gag him.

Vowing to resist what he described as a plot against him, VeryDarkMan declared that he will not be silenced and intends to expose those involved.

He said in a video: “So in respect to this news that went viral yesterday, that the courts have ordered for my arrest. First things first, the judiciary cannot shut me down. A lot of you don’t know, but there is a plot for the judiciary to shut me down, but I will resist it instead, I will expose all those people paying money for it. I will expose all of you, all those people forum-shopping judges and all those their illegal orders. I will expose all of you because Tell me something. How can a man have six cases in front of one magistrate in one day, one lawyer have six cases in front of one magistrate in one day, and on that same day, the judge ordered for my arrest.

“On that same day, after they told him, because my lawyer told him that this guy is not in Nigeria, my lawyer also told them that I have a case in that same court, and I have never missed a day. The lawyer told him that. As a matter of fact, I was even in China when they filed for that case. So I’m not around, and you’re ordering for my own arrest and I’m not even around, not just that on that same day when they ordered from arrest, that was yesterday, another court in Nyanya is also issuing an injunction that I should not talk about Mercy Chinwo and is Eezee Tee matter again.

“I know wetin ona dey look for, they want the news. Oh, Verydarkman came to Nigeria because their plan will be if I come, Nigeria make them handcuff me. They handcuff me. People go say, Yes, oh, mercy, don win and all that see, the truth is that even if I come to Nigeria now, hm, and they handcuff me, listen, it still does not change the truth that there was abuse of power and influence”, he said in part.

A Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of social critic Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.

Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna issued the bench warrant on Thursday, March 13, 2025, after VeryDarkMan’s failure to appear in court after being summoned on March 5, 2025.

The court’s action stems from allegations of criminal defamation made by gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

VeryDarkMan had allegedly made defamatory statements on social media, accusing Chinwo of being involved in a contractual dispute and diverting $345,000 linked to her former record label boss, Eezee Tee.

Chinwo’s legal team provided evidence, including emails and payment receipts, to support their claims that VeryDarkMan’s allegations were false and damaging to her reputation.

Big Brother Naija reality star, Deeone, has confessed that he deliberately used his appearance on Nedu Wazobia’s ‘Honest Bunch’ podcast to expose VeryDarkMan.

In a recent interview on TVC’s ‘Breakfast Show’, Deeone revealed that he had been studying VeryDarkMan for months and wanted to test his authenticity.

He claimed that he planned the whole thing without Nedu’s knowledge, using him as “bait” to get a reaction from VeryDarkMan.

Deeone expressed regret over Nedu’s subsequent exit from the show, stating that he didn’t intend for that to happen.

He acknowledged that Nedu was shocked by the revelation and that their friendship was affected by the controversy.

He said: “I planned the whole thing alone, but Nedu did not know, because If I had said it on social media, they would accuse me of trying to make money, but I needed a platform. I had been studying VeryDarkMan for months; and I wanted to know if he was real or just using Nigerians. Some things he gets right, but most times, he jumps to conclusions and manipulates everyone.

“Even Nedu is shocked, as he wouldn’t have agreed if I had told him about it because I know he is VeryDarkMan’s friend. I didn’t know Nedu’s job was going to get affected. I feel really bad and sorry about that. I used Nedu as the bait to get the fish (VeryDarkMan), and it worked perfectly.”

Questions after VeryDarkMan claims NGO account hacked, N180m stolen

Questions have trailed social critic, Martins Vincent Otse a.k.a. Very Dark Man’s claim that the sum of N180 million was stolen from his account after his NGO website was breached by hackers.

A number of Nigerians had donated money to Otse in October following his announcement that he was launching an NGO, including the sum of N100 million donated by popular music producer, Don Jazzy.

Two months after the NGO was launched, VDM (VeryDarkMan) claimed on Instagram yesterday that only N20 million was left in the said account while the sum of N180 million had been stolen.

Otse said in an Instagram video he posted yesterday: “I would be honest with you guys. For the past few days, I have not been myself. Somebody hacked into the NGO website and I don’t know how they did it.

“N180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and we are on our way to Jos. They have arrested one. The account has been put on PND (Post No Debit). The account now has N20 million.”

Many Nigerians are, however, asking questions across social media accounts.

One of them, Pamilerin Adegoke, said: “VeryDarkMan said N160m is missing because his NGO site was hacked. Today, we heard he bought Mercedes Benz AMG. My question is: is the money inside a bank account opened for the NGO or is the money on the website? Please explain to us like a Primary 2 pupil.”

Another respondent, Oiza, who queried the decision by donors to commit millions of naira to VeryDarkMan’s NGO, said: “Asherkine is out here every day supporting poor people, you didn’t donate money to him; you carry money give VDM. For what exactly? Bunch of clout chasers. Una money don move. Ntorrr!

“Honestly, I’ve not been myself for the past few days,” Otse said. “Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and N180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested.

“The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). There’s N20 million left, while N160 million was diverted. We’re heading to Jos to recover the money”, he said.
