Former Super Eagles’ attacker Victor Moses has  signed for English Championship side, Luton Town.

The 33-year-old Africa Cup of Nations AFCON 2013 winner has most recently been playing his football in Russia with Spartak Moscow, who he joined in 2021 after a successful loan spell from Chelsea in the 2020/21 campaign.

Born in Kaduna, Nigeria, Victor came to the UK as a boy and played for England from Under-16 to U21 while coming through the ranks at Crystal Palace, where he made 69 appearances and scored 11 goals for the then-Championship club.

He stepped up to the Premier League with a £2.5m move to Wigan Athletic in January 2010, netting nine times in 80 appearances before Chelsea paid £9m to sign him in the summer of 2012.

Moses was part of the squad that won the Europa League in 2012/13, but spent much of his nine years as a Chelsea player out on loan, playing for European giants Liverpool and Inter Milan, as well as domestically for West Ham and Stoke and in Turkey with Fenerbahce.

In his time at Stamford Bridge, he made 128 appearances for the Blues, scoring 18 goals, and won the Premier League and FA Cup in successive years in 2017 and 2018, before moving permanently to Spartak for £4.5m in 2021, where he also won the Russian Cup.

Manager Rob Edwards said: “Victor is one we’ve been talking to for quite a while. He trained with us last week and played 60 minutes in a behind closed doors game, and we made a decision because we think he’s able to come in and help us.

“He gives us more strength in depth and versatility, because he’s someone who can play both sides or as a number ten.

“He’s played for so many different clubs in different ways and shapes, and under different managers, so he’s tactically aware. We think he’s someone who can provide some really good competition for us.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on him and expect too much too soon. He’s not going to come in and start the games straight away. He’s got to get used to what we do and how we play, but he’s fit, he’s able to come in and affect it now, and he definitely makes the squad stronger.”

Including 38 caps for Nigeria and 29 for the England age groups, Victor’s career spans almost 550 matches, 84 goals, and boasts appearances in two World Cups, the Africa Cup of Nations, Champions League and Europa League, a tournament in which he played in the 2019/20 final for Inter Milan, losing 3-2 to Sevilla.

“He’s someone who we can learn from as well,” adds Rob. “He’s won a Premier League title under Antonio Conte playing in a similar sort of role to what we ask some of our lads to do, so we’ll be able to pick his brains.

“He’s had a fantastic career, been there and done it. He’s got an amazing CV. But alongside that he’s a really good lad, a quiet, unassuming, down to earth person.

“What tells you about his humility is that he’s been willing to come in, basically on trial with us, to show how hungry he is to play for Luton Town. We are really excited about working with him.”

Victor was equally excited after putting pen to paper and claiming squad number seven with the Hatters.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Victor in his first interview with LTFC+. “I had a few offers from Europe, but I said to my agent that I set my mind on staying over here, and here we are. I’m very pleased and honoured to be at this club and I just can’t wait to get going.

“I spoke to Rob before I came, I spoke to the directors and they told me the plan and the history of the club, and I just want to be part of the success.

“I want to come here and enjoy my football, work hard for the club and for the team, and get back to where we belong in the Premier League.”

Premier League winner Victor Moses has returned to English football, with the 33-year-old joining Championship side Luton on a free transfer.

Moses won the league with Chelsea in 2017 after he was converted from a winger to a wing-back by Antonio Conte. He also played for Crystal Palace, Wigan, Liverpool, Stoke and West Ham, before a series of loan spells abroad at Fenerbahce, Inter Milan and Spartak Moscow.

He spent four years in Moscow after joining the club on loan with an option to buy in 2020, but left Russia when his deal expired in May to return to England. And Moses has vowed to help Luton return to the Premier League.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he told club media. “I had a few offers from Europe, but I said to my agent that I set my mind on staying over here, and here we are. I’m very pleased and honoured to be at this club and I just can’t wait to get going.

Luton boss Rob Edwards is expecting Moses to make a big impact at Kenilworth Road, hailing his experience and versatility. “Victor is one we’ve been talking to for quite a while,” Edwards explained.

  • Moses risks losing starting spot at Fenerbahce

Former Nigeria international Victor Moses risks losing his starting spot at Fenerbahce in the new season.

Turkish sports daily Fanatik has suggested that the Chelsea-owned winger was a shadow of himself during the preparatory matches and Deniz Türuc is now ahead of the Nigerian in manager Ersun Yanal’s pecking order of right-wingers.

Former Netherlands U20 international Turuc joined Fenerbahce on a three-year deal from Kayserispor on August 3.

It is claimed by the newspaper that when Rodrigues and Moses played on the wings, the quality of the attack line decreased and Turuc has sparkled in training sessions.

In the second half of last season, the new Fenerbahce number 11 appeared in 16 matches, including ten starts.

Moses has netted only one goal so far in pre-season against Boluspor on July 13.

  • Moses excited to end season with a win

Victor Moses was delighted to help Turkish Super Ligue side Fenerbahce end the season with a 3-1 victory over Antalyaspor on Sunday.

Goals from Moses, Miha Zajc and Eljif Elmas rendered Mevlut Erdinc’s effort a mere consolation as the Yellow Canaries ended the season on a high.

The victory saw Ersun Yanal’s men finish in the sixth place on the table with 46 points from 34 games, having been in the relegation zone at the start of the season.

Following the impressive performances, the on-loan Chelsea winger has taken to the social media to bear his thought.

“Fantastic way to end the season yesterday with a win, it was nice to get on the scoresheet again too. Also want to say a massive thank you to all of our fans for the amazing support you’ve shown us this season,” Moses posted on Instagram.

Moses scored four goals in 15 appearances across all competitions since joining the Turkish side from Chelsea in January.

  • Chelsea to Fenerbahce: Raise your bid on Moses or forget permanent deal

Turkish side Fenerbahce have been told to dig their hands deep into the pocket if they wish to have Nigerian international Victor Moses  for keeps as the €5million (about N2-1 billion) they placed on the table is not enough.

Premier league side Chelsea who recently dispatched the Super Eagles ace to Turkey in what could be dubbed a continuation of his series of loan deals, rejected the bid insisting that the Moses who has previous been on loan sojourn to Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham is far worth more than that.

According to sports news website Ajansspor, the Istanbul-based side offered a fee of €5million which was quickly rejected by the Blues. Fenerbahce, who have Moses on loan until the end of the season, are now left with the option of increasing the bid if the desire to keep the 28 year old who became an instant hit on arrival at the club.

The report added that the Turkish club’s sporting director Damien Comolli is expected to go to England to meet face to face with the Chelsea executives and thrash out a deal.

Comolli, who previously worked at Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, played a key role in convincing Moses to join Fenerbahce in the January transfer window.

Moses, who announced his retirement from international football shortly after the world cup in Russia, has been on the books of Chelsea since 2012 but a failure to win favour under current manager Maurizio Sarri suggests his future lies elsewhere.

The former Crystal Palace and wigan Athletic ace was a key figure under previous manager Antonio Conte, who deployed a 3-4-3 system which allowed Moses to thrive as an adapted right wingback. However, under Sarri’s 4-3-3 formation the Nigerian is not suited to a fullback role and faces stiff competition to play on the right side of attack from Pedro and Willian.

His contract with the Blues runs until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Although Moses announced he was quitting the national team to enable him concentrate on club assignment, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr who believes that the retirement was coming too early in the day, said the door remains open should he decide to make a U-turn.

Moses who joined the Turkish side in January has so far made eight appearances for the side netting two goals.

  • Rohr leaves Eagles’ door open for Moses’ return, but

Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr on Wednesday said that the door of the team was still open for the team’s ace winger, Victor Moses, but he must show commitment and fight for shirt.

Rohr made the comment on the sidelines of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 4 between MFM FC and Rangers International FC of Enugu.

NAN reports that the Super Eagles gaffer was on the stands to watch out of outstanding players among the NPFL players.

On Moses comeback to the team after announcing his premature retirement after the World Cup in Russia, Rohr said he appreciated Moses quality as a winger.

“Victor Moses is a player with lots of quality but stopped playing for the National team after the World Cup. We have to respect his decision not to play again.

“if he wants to come back to the team, it is okay but he must show a lots of motivation, he must show that he is fit to play for the team because we have other players playing well in his position now.

“Moses has to be strong to come back to the team because we have more options on the wings now like Samuel Kalu, Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa. All these players are on his wings.

“Victor Moses comeback is a good news for us,” he said.

Rohr said that he would present the fittest team in the last match of the AFCON qualifiers against Seychelles and the friendly match against Egypt.

“We will invite the fittest players for the AFCON qualifiers against Seychelles and the friendly match against Egypt. The best of them will play the Match.

“With the level at which some of the players are now in their different clubs, I believe they should turn that form to the national team.

“For the local based players the ones that are good among them will surely be invited to the team. I regret that the league had a long break after the last season which affected the fitness of the players.

“But now that the league is on, myself and my assistants are here to watch out for the outstanding ones that can make the team,” he said.

  • Fenerbahce want Moses on loan

Turkey’s Fenerbahce is ready to lure Victor Moses away from England as there are indications that the Turkish side has made a loan offer for the Chelsea winger.

The Ex-Super Eagles star has been on the radars of Cardiff, Crystal Palace and Fulham in recent weeks and the Turkish side is ready to lure Moses from the English Premier League.

According to trtspor.com.tr late on Wednesday, the Turkish TV Channel presented the news as ‘Breaking’ after they reported Fenerbahce are in talks with Chelsea to sign Moses on a temporary basis.

The Turkish giants are in the market for a winger and they have also been linked with a move for former Celtic target Alberth Ellis and Robert Skov from FC Copenhagen.

For now, there is no concrete update on Chelsea’s stance regarding the offer from the Istanbul club but as Moses is yet to see action under Maurizio Sarri, the London side may allow the Nigerian star to go out on loan in this January window.

With Sarri switching to a back four following Antonio Conte’s reign, Moses has struggled to get games in the new system.

The Nigerian international has made just two substitute appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League this season and is under contract with the London club until 2021.
