    Warri Wolves report Ibenegbu, Osadiaye, Aziz to LMC

    • Etu, players lost valuables in Aba 

    The management of Warri Wolves has reported Enyimba trio of Ibenegbu Ikechukwu, Osadiaye Joseph and Abu Aziz to the League Mangement Company (LMC) for assaulting their General Manager, Etu Moses at the Umuhaia Stadium during a rescheduled league match on Sunday.

    The club’s media Media Manager, Azuka Chiemeka told SportingLife that Etu reported the case immediately after the incident on Sunday.

    It is understood that the players vent their anger on Etu to protest their outstanding signing on fees, and some of their match bonuses while with Warri Wolves last season.

    Chiemeka accused the management of Enyimba FC for not providing enough protection for officials, players and fans of Warri Wolves.

    ” Before the team left their hotel to the venue of the match, Mr Etu got a call from Ibenegbu  threatening to deal with him for not paying the said owned salaries and warned him not to come anywhere near the stadium. Our GM informed the chairman of  Enyimba (Anyasi Agu) on the purported threats but he gave Etu the assurance that all was well and that the players have been cautioned to desist from carrying out their threats and that was the reason Mr Etu went to the stadium and he was eventually beaten up and in the process lost valuable personal properties, and beside the attack on our GM, some of our players and officials and supporters that made the trip equally sustained injuries and  lost their valuables such as phones, jewelries e.t.c.”

    Enyimba trio of Abu Azeez, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu and Joseph Osadaiye have apologised for their action after they assaulted Warri Wolves General Manager, Moses Etu yesterday shortly after their 2-1 win over the Seasiders at the Umuahia Township stadium.

    The three players stated that they were sorry about their action which they said has let Enyimba down and for that fact, they have tendered a sincere apology and have agreed to pay the fine placed on them by the club for their ignoble act.

    They disclosed that their action was done out of anger for the fact that despite being owed their outstanding signing on fees, they still sat on some of their match bonuses cash while with the club last season.

    They promised to be of good conduct and not be involved in any act  capable of bringing the club into disrepute in the future.

    They also apologised to the General Manager of Warri Wolves, Moses Etu, Warri Wolves as a whole and Enyimba players and officials.

    Enyimba has alreday placed a fine of N300,000 each  for their action.

    The Champions  are now second on the Nigeria league table after yesterday’s  2-1 match in a rescheduled match in Umuahia .

    They now have 30 points from 16 matches, a point behind leaders Rivers United.‘The People’s Elephant’ have thus extended their unbeaten run to nine matches.

    Christian Pyagbara gave the home team the lead after just 55 seconds, but Wolves fought back to draw level in the 39th minute through Shedrack Oghu.

    However, Andrew Abalogu delivered the match winner in the 72nd minute when he tucked home off a rebound from Chima Akas’ free kick.

    Recuperated 3SC head coach, Kadiri Ikhana will return to his duty post on Wednesday to ditch out instructions from the dug out when the Oluyole Warriors face Warri Wolves in a tough NPFL Match Day 16 tie in Ibadan after recovering from stress.

    Ikhana was not on the technical bench during the club’s last two matches against Plateau United and Enugu Rangers but has been offering technical instructions and support to ensure that the Ibadan side recover from their agonising 6-0 away loss to Kano Pillars.

    The Media Officer of the club, Jubril Arowolo told SportingLife that they were relieved to secure their first away point of the season and that they are more so delighted that their head coach, Kadiri Ikhana would be present after recovering from stress.

    3SC are 17th on the log with 17 points from 15 games.

    Warri Wolves raise alarm over Al-Merrikh SC excess delegation

    The management of Warri Wolves have expressed concern over the excess delegation of their opponents Al-Merrikh SC of Sudan in this weekend CAF Champions League first round first league.

    SportingLife understands that the management of El Merrikh wrote to Warri Wolves management that they are coming to Nigeria with 31-man delegation.

    It was gathered that Al-Merrikh arrived in Nigeria 2pm on Thursday aboard Egypt Airline only to discover that they sneaked in additional ten people to the surprise of their host team.

    The club’s media officer, Azuka Chiemeka, who received the delegation in Abuja, told SportingLife that Warri Wolves will only responsible for 31-man delegation while other take care of themselves.

    “They (Al-Merrikh) didn’t follow what they told us. They wrote to us that they are coming with 31-man delegation which we planned for, but what we have here in Abuja is more than the expected delegation. There is an extra ten people. We have told them that we can only responsible for the number of delegation they told us while the remaining people should take care of themselves,” Chiemaka told SportingLife.

    Al-Merrikh stayed at the Gombe Hotel, Abuja on Thursday and they are expecting to fly to Warri by 9 am today by Arik Airline.

    He also disclosed that Speaker Delta State House of Assemble, Rt. Honourable Monday Igbuya will represent the state governor on Sunday.

    “The speaker will be the number one supporter of Warri Wolves on Sunday. All arrangement is going on as planned. We are only praying for Sunday to come. All the players are intact we don’t have any injury worry,” he said.

    The management of Warri Wolves has denied the news making rounds that the club has hired the services of former Bolton Wanderers academy director Peter Farrell as the new Coach of the club.

    The club’s media officer, Azuka Chiemeka in a telephone conversation with SportingLife, admitted that the club is in talks with the English man but nothing concrete has been reached between The Seasiders and 59-year-old coach.

    Chiemeka added that Farrell is being sought after by the club to serve as the team’s technical director as against technical adviser being reported in the media.

    SportingLife also gathered the former Brentford first team coach has gone back to England.

    “The management has frowned at such news and want to state categorical that though the club is in talks with the former Bolton Wanderers academy director, nothing concrete has been reached between Warri Wolves and the former Bolton coach, but the management believes that when negotiations between both parties have been reached, the news will be officially announced,” Chiemeka told SportingLife.

    The Management of Warri Wolves has unveiled their new players for the seasons to fans and supporters of the club at a ceremony held at the Warri City stadium on Thursday.

    Players unveiled with the New jerseys for the season are goalkeepers, Paul Godwin and Dele Ajiboye.

    Other players are King Osanga, Okpako Solomon, Azeez Shobowale, Efe Yarhere, Okiki Omonefe, Bernard Okoronwata, Kelechi Harrison, Bobby Abel, Kayode Olowoyo, Markson Ojobo, and Solomon Babatunde.

    Addressing guests and well wishers of the club, the chairman of the club Moses Etu said the new management has been saddled with the responsibility of surpassing the previous standard and record the club had achieved last season.

    “Warri Wolves is now a household name in the country and beyond with last season’s record as runners up. With such record we are no longer seen as underdogs when you talk about football in Africa. We know that a lot of players left us this season but with the new players we have recruited for both continental and league campaign Warri Wolves will certainly do their best to succeed,” Etu said.

    Management of Warri Wolves has assured Nigerians that the club will certainly do well in this year’s CAF Champions league campaign despite their poor form at the on-going second phase of the Super Four competition in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

    The pride of Delta, as they are fondly called, lost their opening match against Enyimba FC by a lone goal and got a goalless draw with the host team, Akwa united of Uyo in their second match and will wrap up the continental preparatory tournament today when they take on Nasarawa United.

    Assessing the team’s performance so far, the club’s media officer, Azuka chiemeka told SportingLife that the management feels effort to revive the team is working out considering that most of the players that executed last season left the club thereby forcing the club into patronising the transfer market.

    “The management believe that with constant friendly matches the rustiness affecting some of the old players and the lack of blending will be a thing of the past before their first continental engagement,” Chiemeka said to SportingLife.

    The pride of Delta will be taking on club Praia Cruz of Sao Tome and Principe on the 14th of this month at the Warri stadium and the management is certain the Wolves will come out victorious in the match.

    Warri Wolves play Insurance, Dynamite FC today

    Warri Wolves will today at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City play two friendly matches with two teams from Edo State as part of preparations for the second round of the Super Four slated for Uyo.

    The players and officials of the team arrived in Benin City on Thursday evening.

    The club’s media officer Azuka Chiemeka told SportingLife that the first match against Dynamite FC will be played by 2pm while the second game against Bendel Insurance is expected to kick off by 4pm.

    Chiemeka said the matches will avail the club the opportunity to test new players that have joined the team recently.

    He assured the club’s fans that the team will improve on their performance which saw the team came fourth at the first round of Super Four in Kaduna last week.

    “We did not perform well in Kaduna but we are working to improve on it and hopefully Uyo will give us the desired result,” Chiemeka told SportingLife.

    “Well personally nothing went wrong just that we are building a new team with the recruited players on ground and hopefully the team cohesion we are expecting will soon come to play with the continuous involvement of the team in friendly matches.”

    Heartland of Owerri have confirmed that their opening day fixture against Warri Wolves would be a routine three points to the Naze Millionaires before they are better prepared for the season than the Seasiders.

    The General Manager of the club, Oscar Keke told SportingLife that the Owerri side were able to keep most of their top players that were with the team last season while alleging that Warri Wolves have struggled to hold on to most of their old players and will stumble against them.

    He said the draws were fair to Heartland and that he would be heading back to Owerri to ensure that the Naze Millionaires perfect the remainder of their pre season build up to ensure that they are ready not only for Warri Wolves but for all the teams in the top-flight.

    In his response, the Chairman of Warri Wolves, Moses Etu told SportingLife that he won’t exchange words with Heartland but that his boys would answer them on the pitch in Owerri on February 21.

    He said the players on display and the approach used by both teams will determine who carries the day adding that he is more than confident that his boys won’t leave Owerri without getting at least a draw.

    • Deny depleted team report

    Warri Wolves have promised to parade their best squad when they face Akwa United in today’s Super Four clash in Kaduna.

    The team’s media officer, Azu Azuka disclosed to SportingLife that his side will use the tournament to test some of their new signing.

    Some of the new players expected in the lineup today are goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye, King Osanga as well as Benard Okorowanta.

    He said the team came to Kaduna with 27 players and 12 officials.

    “We arrived here in Kaduna today (Tuesday). We have 27 players and 12 officials. Actually, half of the players we brought are new players. We have King Osanga here, Dele Ajiboye and others. We want to use our new players to prosecute this tournament so that we can have complete squad before the CAF Champions League,” Azuka informed SportingLife.

    “This is a testing ground for us; we want a situation where all the players would be used so as to give coaches opportunity to know the areas where they need to work on.

    “There is understanding in the team already because we have played some friendly matches at our closed camping at Kwale before coming to Kaduna. So this is final stage of our preparation. There is cohesion; the team is blending match by match and just to perfect it with the Super Four.”

    Azuka also denied media reports that Warri Wolves are depleted.

    He insisted that majority of their old players are still with the team.

    “We need to show that all those negative reports associated with Warri wolves are not true. We still have all our reliable old players with us.  Michael Egbeta is here with us, Onamado is here, Joseph Eyimofe, all of them are here.

    “We have played Akwa United before and we know how to handle them. Give or take Akwa Unitd won’t be difficult for us,” he said.
