    Woman nabbed for stealing at wedding

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Borno State has arrested a 27-year-old spinster, Zainab Abdullahi, for alleged theft of N12, 000 at a wedding in Maiduguri, the capital, Commandant Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, has said.

    He told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday that the suspect was arrested after she stole valuables at the wedding.

    Abdullahi said the suspect usually wears expensive clothes and attend weddings with intent to steal.

    He said the suspect specialised in stealing jewellery, money and cell phones.

    According to him, on January 1, a woman reported to the command that her purse containing money was stolen, and presented a picture of the person she was suspecting.

    “Similar incident also occurred on January 6, a purse belonging to some women was stolen at a wedding event in Polo area of Maiduguri. The suspect was identified through CCTV video footage,” he said.

    The commandant said that handbags, four cell phones, two goggles, $100 and N12,000 were recovered her.

    He said preliminary investigation showed that the suspect stole assorted items from celebrators at wedding events in the city.

    Abdullahi advised residents to be vigilant at social gatherings.

    Banky W, Adesua’s wedding documentary airs on Africa Magic

    A documentary on the celebrity wedding between R & B Singer Banky W and Actress Adesua Etomi is set to hit TV screens on Africa Magic channel on Jan.6.

    According to the official trailer released by Africa Magic, the documentary titled “The Wellingtons”, showed the couple sharing details on why they chose to share their special day with the world.

    Africa Magic is a collection of Pay TV entertainment channels that focus on African programming.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the marriage between the two celebs caused a lot of frenzy on the internet with hashtag handle #BAAD2017.

    Also, at the traditional wedding, TV Personality, Ebuka Obi-Unchedu stole the show with his `one of a kind’ designed Agbada outfit. .

    Before their traditional marriage and white wedding in Nov 2017, the Nollywood sweet hearts starred in the blockbuster Nollywood romantic movie, ‘The Wedding Party 1’.

    They played the principal characters of a couple, Dunni (Adesua) and Dozie (Banky W) in the award-winning romantic comedy.

    Adesua reportedly became the third most searched individual on Google Nigeria during the year.

    She starred in her first feature film, “Knocking On Heaven’s Door” in 2014.

    She also won the Best Actress in a Drama award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for her role in the 2015 romantic drama `Falling’. (NAN)

    Lady dies in sleep weeks to wedding

    A YOUNG lady, Joy Chinonye Nnokam, has reportedly died a few weeks to her wedding day. She was said to have diedin her sleep shortly after she returned home from church penultimate Tuesday.

    It was gathered that she graduated from the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori.

    Joy, who until her death lived in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, according to sources had made adequate preparation for her forthcoming wedding and even shared uniform dress to commemorate the event scheduled for the last week of January next year.

    It was learnt that her family members raised the alarm when she did not wake up from her siesta, several hours after she slept.

    Her body has since been deposited in a public mortuary.

    She was described by friends and associates as humble and friendly.

    In a tribute on Facebook, one of her family members, Adiba Chike, wrote: ” I can’t stop starring at  your picture since yesterday, it all feels like a dream to me….Chinonye my beautiful and quiet cousin RIP until we meet to part no more .Good night Wenem.”

    Another sympathiser called Pretty Angel wrote: ” I’m still trying to contain this tears…. I still remember the first time we met on Facebook March 27th and still remember the first day I met you, i still don’t believe you’re gone, I remember your words to me when I said I was depressed… We were looking forward to your big day next year… You left without thinking about how we will feel, what happened to your loved ones, friends, fiance, me …Ever smiling kind-hearted joy…you are a blessed soul, never regretted meeting you… God knows best. Rest in Peace.”

    Lecturer dies weeks after wedding

    A newly married lecturer of the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State, identified as Daniel, has been reported dead.

    It was gathered Daniel was on the Ukwuapu/Umule road in Osisioma Local Government Area, going home, when a lose iron from a fast-moving truck fell and hit his throat

    A source, Chima, said Daniel was alighting from a commercial tricycle when he was hit, adding that the deceased wedded this month and was preparing to travel overseas to spend the yuletide with his family.

    Efforts to reach the police spokesman, Geoffrey Ogbonna, were unsuccessful.

    Some of his colleagues described his death as unfortunate and heartbreaking.

    11 women die in accident after wedding

    Eleven women returning from a wedding died on Saturday at an accident in Na’ibawa ‘Yan Lemo, Kano State.

    Their vehicle, a Sharon bus with 18 passengers, crashed into a toll gate booth.

    While trying to a avoid a speeding Golf car, the bus, also on to speed, lost control and ran into the toll gate kiosk.

    Eyewitnesses said the vehicle somersaulted and fell  by the roadside.

    Eight passengers died instantly. The others were rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where three died.

    It was gathered the deceased were buried yesterday morning.

    A survivor, Aliyu Yusuf, said the women were returning from the family home of a newly married man in Wailari, on their way to the bride’s home at Unguwa Uku quarters.

    “We were coming back from the groom’s family house when we suddenly saw a speeding Golf car behind us. The driver was trying to force himself into our lane because there was a huge pothole on his lane through the toll gate.

    “So, to avoid being hit, our driver tried to swerve to the other lane, but unfortunately, there was a trailer coming behind us leaving us with no choice but to return to our original lane. It was in the process the driver lost control and rammed into the toll gate building.

    “I didn’t know how I survived. I just saw myself standing by the roadside with another boy who was also in the vehicle. But when I looked at the car, I noticed that it was completely damaged.

    “When the bus finally stopped, I just saw blood and bodies everywhere; a woman’s hand was severed from her body while her lifeless body had a baby screaming on its back,” Yusuf said.

    The driver of the other vehicle escaped with a broken arm.

    Another witness, pointing at blood stains on one of the cubicles, said: “This blood smeared this wall after the rolling head of one of the victims flew and hit it.”

    He said the driver of the Golf car sped away, adding that a tricycle rider tried to catch up with him.

    It was learnt the couple lost consciousness after receiving the news.

    At the bride’s home, sympathisers wore long faces and condoled with her father.

    A spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) in Kano, Kabiru Daura, confirmed the incident in a text message.

    “Yes, we are aware. A vehicle conveying women believed to be on high speed ran into the toll gate building at Yanlemo on Zaria road. Eight died on the spot while three died in hospital,” Daura said.

    Golden Royale, Multipurpose hall, Enugu, came alive for three days, as notable stars stormed the Coal City for this year’s edition of ‘The Wedding Showcase Nigeria.’

    This year’s edition, which featured an exhibition held at Golden Royale Multipurpose Hall on November 24 and 25, had different vendors from all around Enugu and its environs gracing the occasion.

    According to the organiser, Kachy Ugwa, the exhibition fair was essentially the melting pot for top Nigerian fashion icons and parades, event, media and logistics vendors from all parts of South Eastern Nigeria and 2017 edition was a grand success.

    Kachy also added TWS 2017 also had a successful first ever business dinner with the theme ‘Building Synergy and Sustainability in Business.’

    “We had facilitators such as the brain behind the Event Market Nigeria and a renowned event expert, Mr. Temitope (TSOULE), financial expert and coach, Mr Cornel Awgu, the social media expert and radio diva, Mrs Gloria Emodi (fabulosgloria) and the Hair engineer, Ms Chinyere Okoro spoke on building a brand from scratch, the power of social media and how to sustain and manage our finances,” he stated.

    Highlight of ‘The Wedding Showcase 2017’ was the Night of Lights – Fashion Meets Runway show, which had designers such as Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Sevondejana all the way from Lagos.

    They graced the runway with other delectable indigenous designers like Lady Beellionaire, Judan Clothing, Bellany and the host of others.

    The event also featured musical performances by Ric Hassani, Wow of The Voice Nigeria, Makysha and a beautiful rendition of the song ‘Goodbye’ by Legendary Suni in memory of Eric Arubayi.

    Among artistes who graced the showcase were Enyinna Nwigwe, Bryan Okwara, Ebube Nwagbo, Melvin Oduah, Marie Claire, Ken Erics, Adaeze Eluke, Chinonso Arubayi and the host of others.

    The event was sponsored by The Base Event Center, Golden Royale Hotel, Ronak Dress Code, Tastimony Catering, The Hotel, Kitchen Pastries, and a host of others.

    A 24-year-old man, Michael Duda, has said he kidnapped his teenage girlfriend to raise money for their wedding.

    Michael, paraded with 104 suspects arrested for kidnapping, rape, robbery and cultism, at the headquarters of Edo State Police Command, said the girl just finished secondary school and there was no way he could approach her parents for marriage.

    Addressing reporters yesterday, Michael said he kept the girl in his home for four days and asked her father to pay N2 million ransom.

    The suspect, who said he sells cups, admitted that he had sex with the girl throughout the four days.

    “I live at Ekae, off Sapele Road. She came to my house. We planned to collect money from her father to raise money for our wedding, but I did not collect the money again. She stayed in my home for four days.

    “I couldn’t tell the father I want to marry his daughter. She said her father will not agree because she is yet to gain admission to a university. She was with me for four days. The father said he had no money. I was at home with my lover when the police came to arrest me.”

    The girl said they met on Facebook and after days, she visited him.

    She said she was surprised that Michael abducted her when she got to his home, adding that she learnt he demanded N4 million ransom from her father.

    The teenager’s elder sister, Rodha, said her sister was sexually abused before the police rescued her.

    Three suspects, who allegedly killed Prof. Paul Otasowie, of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Benin (UNIBEN), were also paraded.

    The don was killed on October 4 in his home at Evbuotubu in Egor Local Government.

    They are Osaze Oghogho, Best Ogumode and Happy Okoro.

    The suspects said they never intended to kill Prof. Otasowie, but to snatch his car and use it for robbery.

    They claimed he was mistakenly shot when he rushed at Osaze, who held a gun.

    Addressing reporters, Police Commissioner Babatunde Kokumo said the suspects would soon be arraigned.

    He listed the recovered items to include five AK 47 rifles, military weapons, 33 cut to size guns, motorcycles, 90 live AK 47 ammunition, 234 live cartridges, vehicles and N1.2 million.

    Shock as 31-yr-old drowns months to wedding

    A pall of grief fell on Uke community in Anambra State, after a worshipper at Adoration Ministry, Miss Olivia Uchechi allegedly drowned in a canal as she was trying to urinate.

    The incident happened penultimate Sunday.

    Shocked residents and friends of the late Uchechi were said to have combed the canal for her whereabouts without success.

    The 31-year-old lady’s wedding was said to be four months away.

    A resident identified as Robert Agu said: ‘’She had left the church in the middle of Sunday service to answer the call of nature when she slipped into the water-logged canal. The service, her friends started looking for her to no avail.

     ‘’They continued their search for her whereabouts till the next day when her body over-bloated body was found the next day. She was found with the dress she wore to church. Her tragic death is unfortunate because her wedding has been slated for December.’’

    It was learnt that her remains were laid to rest last Monday.

    Contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Baba Umar, promised to revert to our correspondence, but he was unable to do so at press time.

    The mobile telephone line of the police spokesperson, Princess Nkeiruka Nwode was also switched off at press time.

    Woman punched to death three days to wedding over N100 debt

    Tragedy struck in Keffi area of Nassarrawa penultimate Wednesday after a man identified as Hamisu allegedly beat her cousin, a woman by name, Aminat Abdullahi to death, three days to her wedding.

    Hamisu, who is a younger brother to Aminat’s mother was said to have loaned his sister a sum of N100 which she did not refund as agreed.

    According to sources, a visibly upset Hamisu visited his sister’s residence to collect the debt.

    Aminat’s mother, however, rebuked Hamisu’s visit to her residence in the early hours of the day over a ’paltry’ N100 debt.

    Her comment drew Hamisu’s anger prompting him to rain abuses on his sister.

    The situation degenerated into an altercation during which Aminat rushed out of their residence and reprimanded Hamisu for unguarded remarks.

     Hamisu who could not stand his younger cousin’s remarks allegedly seized her and punched her till she fell into a coma.

     Sources said all efforts made to revive the bride-to-be failed and she was confirmed dead by doctors at a hospital she was rushed to for treatment.

    A source said: ‘’Hamisu was talking rudely to Aminat’s mother when she (Aminat) confronted him and asked him to stop harassing her mother. Her (Aminat) comments drew the wrath of Hamisu who landed several punches on her following which she slumped and could not be revived.

    ‘’Hamisu tried to run away but Aminat’s mother held him by his trousers until the arrival of policemen who took him away to their station. It was unfortunate that the girl was killed just three days away from her wedding.’’

    Hamisu was taken to a nearby police division in Keffi.

    Contacted, the State’s Police Commissioner Mr. Bello Abubakar said the case was not reported to the police.

In the midst of it all was the recently turbaned Danu whose face was an epitaph of joy as ‘African Queen’ crooner TuFace Idibia serenaded guests.
