I will impress at West Ham – Emenike

Former Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike, has said he is ready to justify his move to West Ham United by scoring goals for the London side in the English Premier League.

Emenike added that he is thrilled to fulfill his long-time dream of playing in the EPL after several speculations linking him to clubs in the league in the past.

“Something bigger is expected from me, both from my fans, West Ham fans and English football fans as a whole, I am aware of the big responsibility before the move and I will be glad to make great impact in the league,” the 28-year-old striker told africanFootball.com

“As for me, I think this is the best time for me to play in the EPL, there had been lots of speculations linking me to a possible move to England in the last four years but here I am now.

“It is a thrilling feeling, a fulfilled dream and I am ready to prove my commitment and confidence on the pitch.”

He added: “I believe this is God’s time for me to play in England, so I have no regret over the clubs I had signed and played for in the past.

“I always believe I still have something great in me to prove I am still a better player for a respectable and great club like West Ham.

“I have had EPL links since I was in Russia, my brothers got calls from some people over a link to a top club in London to be precise, but I wasn’t ready then because I was then learning and trying to improve my game.

“I know the challenges in scoring against some good defenders in England, it’s something you have to quickly adapt to and make instant impact.

“I want to justify my move and hope to light the league with goals.”

  • Bilic hails Moses, Sakho’s impact at West Ham

Bilic hails Moses, Sakho’s impact at West Ham

West Ham United manager, Slaven Bilic, has heaped praise on attacking pair of Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho, following the club’s 2-1 away victory at Manchester City on Saturday.

The Nigerian winger and the Senegalese hitman put an end to City’s 11-match winning run in the Premier League, as Yaya Touré and his teammates dropped their first points of the new campaign, africanFootball.com reports.

Moses put the visitors ahead at the Etihad Stadium with a powerful 20-yard effort after just six minutes, while Sakho doubled their lead just past the half-hour mark.

However, £55 million summer recruit Kevin De Bruyne pulled a goal back for the Citizens on the stroke of half-time, which didn’t prove enough to deprive the Hammers of the three points.

“It is great for the club and I am so happy for everyone at West Ham, but especially for the players because you cannot win here without playing well,” africanFootball.com quoted Bilic as saying on the club’s official website.

“City created some chances and in the second half, the players were fighting like a unit from the goalkeeper to the last man.

“At times we were lucky but you have to be when you are winning at City’s stadium. Man City is such a massive team.

“City is by far the best team we have played so far. But we were able to control City’s pressing and we are so happy about it.

“I am glad for Moses and he is a great asset for us and we are just pleased to have him.

“Sakho is a great player. Some strikers have to score goals to prove their game. If they don’t score they are not playing, but Diafra doesn’t just have to score goals to play well.

“When you defend like he does when we don’t have the ball, if anyone deserved the victory it was him.”

Bilic hails Moses’ West Ham debut

West Ham manager, Slaven Bilic, has said Victor Moses could go on to become a top star in the English Premier League if he settles down at the London club.

The Super Eagles winger is on loan at West Ham from Chelsea, africanFootball.com reports.

This is Moses third loan in as many seasons after such stints at Liverpool and Stoke City.

He impressed on his West Ham debut against Newcastle United on Monday night and he is set to start at Manchester City this weekend.

A delighted Bilic has now said he hopes Moses’ West Ham arrangement could become long term for the player to establish himself in the EPL.

“Victor Moses is a class player. He hasn’t had continuity at one club. He didn’t make it at Chelsea, maybe he didn’t make it at Liverpool – which is hard,” Bilic said.

“But last year at Stoke he was one of the team’s best players. His first game was really good for us. His composure, his linking play and his work rate.”

West Ham upsets Liverpool at Anfield

MARK Noble scored and was later sent off as West Ham stunned Liverpool 3-0 Saturday for its first victory at Anfield since 1963 in a Premier League game that both teams finished with 10 men. Liverpool had not conceded a goal in its opening three games but went behind after just three minutes when Manuel Lanzini celebrated his first league start for West Ham with an early goal.

Lanzini set up the second as he outmuscled Dejan Lovren to steal the ball and crossed for Noble to drive home in the 29th as West Ham ended one of the longest winless runs in English top-flight history.

“It is one of those games that will be written … in the heart of the fans,” West Ham manager Slaven Bilic said.

Things got worse for Liverpool when Philippe Coutinho picked up his second yellow card in the 53rd minute as Brendan Rodgers’ team fell to its first loss of the campaign.

Noble was then sent off for a lunging challenge in the 79th but Diafra Sakho polished off the win in injury time.

It was West Ham’s second win of the season, having beaten Arsenal away on the opening weekend.

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side FC Ifeanyiubah have held preliminary talks with the management of English outfit, West Ham United and are close to sealing a partnership, supersport.com can report.

Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, owner of the NPFL side, and Chukwuma Ubah, chairman of the club, were among the contingent of the Nationwide League One that met with West Ham officials in London last week over two days.

The FC Ifeanyiubah chairman did an official presentation to their West Ham counterparts which included the managing director of the English club, Angus Kinnear.

Kinnear, it was learned, expressed interest in working with the Nigerian club and the first meeting culminated in another meeting in which Ifeanyi Ubah met with West Ham chairman David Gold.

The meeting between the FC Ifeanyiubah owner and Gold was a private discussion believed to be centred on the proposed relationship between the two clubs.

Supersport.com has been informed that there is every likelihood that Ubah will be meeting Gold again to formalise their relationship that would see both clubs involve in exchange programmes, players’ scouting, youth football development and training for coaches as well as business alliances.

West Ham tables bid for Egwuekwe

Warri Wolves skipper, Azubike Egwuekwe, has moved closer to nailing a deal with interested English Premier League club West Ham United.

The African Nations Cup 2013 winner was recently in London for trials with the Hammers and made a favourable impression, africanFootball.com reports.
West Ham, according to reports has made an offer of £500,000 for a contract of three and a half years.

However, the amount falls short of the player’s agent asking price of £1.2m.

West Ham, africanFootball.com, is also offering a £15,000-a-week wage for the big central defender, while his Nigeria clubside wants €300,000.

Egwuekwe, who is currently with the Super Eagles ‘B’ team ahead of a friendly against Sudan on Saturday, hinted last week he has received an offer from an EPL club.

“Offers are coming from overseas, I have an offer from an EPL club, the (English) Championship and from Russia,” he disclosed.

“I am still a Warri Wolves, but at the end of this month, I hope to say bye bye to Warri Wolves.”

  • West Ham fan ‘bent it like Beckham’ during pitch invasion

A West Ham fan who “bent it like Beckham” when he ran onto the pitch and took a free kick during a Premier League match has apologised for his “moment of madness”.

Jordan Dunn, 22, from Dover in Kent, became an internet sensation when he ran onto the pitch at the Boleyn Ground during the Hammers’ game against Tottenham and struck the ball. His effort was easily saved by the West Ham goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel del Castillo.

He pleaded guilty on Monday to a charge under Section 4 of the Football Offences Act 1991, which states it is illegal to go onto the pitch without an excuse or lawful authority.

The 22-year-old apologised for his “moment of madness” and was fined a total of £305 but spared a ban from future matches.

Passing sentence at Thames Magistrates’ Court in East London, District Judge Gareth Branston said Dunn ran “some 70 yards” across the pitch to the spot where Tottenham were lining up a free kick.

“You took it for them. To be frank you were probably a little tired by the time you got to the ball.

“It was a longer run than was strictly necessary.

“You had consumed alcohol and your stride pattern was a bit out of kilter but to borrow a phrase you did bend it like Beckham. Regrettably it was about 30mph slower than Beckham– Judge Gareth Branston

The judge said Dunn’s effort was “easily” saved by the goalkeeper but referring to Christian Eriksen’s subsequent shot, he added: “I understand that the professional footballer who followed you did not do any better.”

Judge Branston also said it was a “small mercy” Dunn had “decided to remain fully clothed”.

The West Ham fan, who smiled when the judge compared his effort to former England captain David Beckham, said it had been a dream to play at his favourite team’s ground from a young age.

Dunn, who has a 10-month old boy, said he “was a bit concerned” about the prospect of a banning order because he wants to take his child to West Ham when he grows up.

One fan took to social media to praise the West Ham fan’s shot, which he said was better than Eriksen’s free kick.

He wrote on Twitter: “Fair play to that pitch invader at West Ham v Spurs.. He got the Free kick on target when Eriksen couldn’t.”
