Adeyanju backs Wike over construction of Apo-Karshi road

Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has urged Nigerians, especially residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to support the efforts of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike over the ongoing construction of Apo–Karshi Road in Abuja.

The Apo–Karshi Road is a major thoroughfare linking parts of the Federal Capital Territory to Nasarawa State.

Its completion is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve accessibility for residents and commuters.

Adeyanju recalled how difficult it has been to construct the road and said Wike’s push to finish the construction of the road deserves commendation.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, Adeyanju, who has been a consistent critic of Wike, said the pace and quality of work on the road is remarkable.

He said, “Even as a consistent critic of Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, I must sincerely commend him for the remarkable speed and level of work currently ongoing on the Apo–Karshi Road”.

Adeyanju noted that the road, which has been under construction for years with minimal progress, is now seeing visible and commendable advancement.

He said, “That road has been under construction for years with little progress, and the pace of work now is both visible and commendable. Credit should be given where it is due. ”

Court restrains Wike, FCTA from revoking Maitama land

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has restrained the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from proceeding with their alleged plan to enforce the revocation of a disputed land in Maitama district, Abuja.

Justice Bello Kawu, in a ruling, equally barred Wike, the FCTA, and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) from giving effect to or acting on a revocation notice issued over Park No. 2008, Cadastral Zone A06, Maitama.

The ruling delivered on December 22, 2025, a certified true copy (CTC) of which was seen on Wednesday, was on an ex-parte motion filed by Nanet Hotels Limited, the claimant in a suit marked FCT/HC/M/17103/2025, challenging among others, the propriety of the purported revocation notice.

According to Justice Kawu, the defendants must be restrained “from giving effect to, acting upon, enforcing, implementing or taking any step whatsoever pursuant to the purported revocation contained in the letter dated July 7, 2025 and received on September 24, 2025, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice”.

The judge also restrained the defendants from “ejecting, harassing, intimidating, disturbing, sealing, demolishing, reallocating or otherwise interfering” with the claimant’s possession and occupation of the property.

He directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to refrain from enforcing or acting in furtherance of the disputed revocation or from providing security cover for any eviction or disturbance on the land.

Justice Kawu ordered all parties to maintain the status quo as of the date the application was filed.

Nanet Hotels Limited, through its solicitors, Ojukwu Chikaosolu & Co. has since issued a public notice warning politicians, public officeholders, developers and investors to stay off the disputed land.

In the notice dated January 20, 2026, the firm cautioned “all governors of the federation, all senators, all members of the house of representatives, all ministers, political appointees, developers, investors and the general public” against dealing in any land “situated at, upon, or derived from Park No. 2008, Cadastral Zone A06, Maitama District, Abuja”.

The solicitors said there is a “subsisting and active suit” before the FCT high court and “clear, binding and subsisting interim orders” protecting the land.

“For the avoidance of all doubt, no person, authority, agency or developer whatsoever has any lawful right to allocate, sell, transfer, mortgage, lease, develop or deal in any manner with the said land,” the notice reads.

The firm warned that any person who proceeds to transact on the land “does so entirely at his own risk” and would be deemed to have full notice of the pending litigation and court orders.

  • PANDEF’s panel on Rivers crises meet with Fubara, Wike

PANDEF’s panel on Rivers crises meet with Fubara, Wike

Members of the Reconciliation Committee set up by the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) have returned to Abuja to brief the organisation about its efforts at reconciling Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

The committee, led by former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), held marathon meetings with the various stakeholders on the resolution of the protracted crisis in Port-Harcourt and Abuja, it was learnt.

The panel, which was set up last week in Abuja, was given two weeks to accomplish its task.

PANDEF National Chairman Ambassador Boladei Igali told reporters in Abuja that members of the committee, who returned to Abuja for further consultations, are expected back in Rivers in few days to conclude its assignment.

He also explained that the committee met again with Wike after returning to Abuja.

The Reconciliation Committee was set up in the wake of the impeachment notice served on Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, by the House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule.

Yesterday, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the ruling party would soon make its position known on the impeachment threat.

Expressing satisfaction with the consultations, Igali said the panel had discussed with Wike and Fubara on how to resolve the logjam.

He emphasised that the governor and the minister are critical to the resolution of the conflicts.

Igali said that the committee met with Wike twice and the governor for three hours.

He also said the committee also met with the Rivers State Elders’ Council, led by former Deputy Governor GTG Toby, and Dr. Suanu Baridam, chairman of the reconciliation committee set up by the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers.

Igali explained that the team also had robust discussions with the elder statesman and Wike’s ally, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba.

He said: “They met with other elders and stakehokders, individuals, who matter in the state. It has been broad consultations from the two sides. This is to enable them have full picture of the issues at stake.

“In negotiations, results don’t come overnight. In negotiations, when you have heard from the two sides, you sit down and analyse what you have heard and try to stimulate solutions; come back with answers on the way forward.”

On whether the committee met with the House of Assembly Speaker Martins Amaewhule, the PANDEF chairman said: “ The committee was able to meet with some individuals. The two main principals are the minister of the FCT and the governor. So, they have met with both of them. The other people are to get additional insight.”

“Amaewhule, the Speaker is extremely important and I beleive that there is a level of contact they had with him. There is hope and we want the media to cooperate with us so that we don’t inflame the situation.”

Igali said the decision of Wike and Fubara to meet with the committee  underscored their readiness for a truce.

He added: “We have also advised stakeholders not to inflame the situation by making statements that will not help. The fact that the minister of the FCT and the fact that the state governor both met with the committee means that they want to resolve the matter.

“We respect the person that we appointed to broker the peace. Why I can’t give more than this is that in negotiations, you cannot say everything. I am not a member of the committee and I have deliberately tried not to interfere in their work.

“I have met about three times with the chairman of the committee. We are getting somewhere and by God’s grace, we will have total peace in Rivers.”

    ‘APC’s position on impeachment coming’

Morka said APC would make its position on the impeachment known “when it’s the time.”

The Publicity Secretary, who spoke on television, said the party is not aloof to the crisis in Rivers.

Morka said: “The fact that I’m not willing to comment on the Rivers crisis on your show does not mean that the APC is disengaged in Rivers State.

“We are a political party, and a responsible party at that. Our job is to govern our party maturely. When it’s time to share our positions or decisions, be assured that I will come here and share them boldly,” he said.

“But you know there are processes that must be enabled to do their job so that at the end of the day, we call it right.”

The APC Northern Youths Forum has passed a vote of confidence on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Nyesom Wike, praising his performance and describing his leadership as transformative for Abuja.

Speaking at a press conference, the group said the FCT has witnessed remarkable improvements in infrastructure, security and economic activities under Wike’s stewardship, making the nation’s capital safer, more prosperous and more livable.

The forum said Wike’s delivery on key mandates distinguished him as a results-oriented public office holder who has justified the confidence reposed in him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It also commended the minister for his “unwavering loyalty” to President Tinubu, noting that his support for the administration’s reforms and development agenda reflected commitment to national unity and progress.

According to the group, Wike’s leadership style has promoted inclusivity and youth empowerment, creating opportunities for young Nigerians to participate meaningfully in governance and nation-building.

The youths condemned protests being staged against the FCT minister, alleging that those behind them were driven by selfish interests rather than genuine concern for Abuja or the country.

They described the protests as deliberate attempts to distract the minister and derail ongoing development efforts in the FCT, warning that such actions were inimical to national progress.

In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Haruna Bature, the APC Northern Youths Forum reaffirmed its support for Wike and President Tinubu, urging the minister to remain focused on delivering dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

  • Nyesom Wike’s zero-sum game in Rivers state

Nyesom Wike’s zero-sum game in Rivers state

‘He will win, who knows when to fight and when not to fight.”.. Sun Tzu, Chinese Military General, Strategist and Philosopher’

    Look before you Leap!

The recent escalation  of imbroglio between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and his political godson, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, with the resumption of impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, by the Rivers State House of Assembly; is a Zero-Sum Game by Nyesom Wike. This will most likely be the defining moment the power tussle between the political godfather and his political godson.

The imbroglio has taken a new dramatic dimension, as Minister Wike has unleashed  verbal attacks and threats on the National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru and anyone who shows any form of support for Governor Fubara, or anyone that calls for reasoning, logic or political solution to prevail.

With the verbal attack on the APC Scribe, Mr. Wike has opened a new front to add to the growing number of fronts in his ongoing numerous political battles. For Minister Wike to openly declare a political war with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political party leaders and members while Wike remains in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is an indication that Minister Wike is unraveling with no holds barred. This is especially so given that, in the past 3 years Wike has practically destabilized the PDP, while burning political bridges in his wake. It appears that this latest fight by Nyesom Wike is a fight to finish.  Indeed how Wike handles this episode of his multidimensional political battles will define his political future – he will either re-assert himself as a political leader to be reckoned with, or he will experience a bitter political anticlimax that could potentially end his political relevance in the politics of Rivers State and at national level.

As I  stated in my previous analyses and opinions on this topic (eg. The 4th of April 2025 episode of this Column), I also partly blame the political crisis in Rivers State on the initial strategic mistakes made by Governor Fubara. However, Governor Fubara’s deft defection to the APC and how he executed the move was strategic and it has changed the game for him so far.

In one of his lessons on strategy and warfare, Sun Tzu also stated that, “No nation survives from prolonged warfare.” And to that extent, for the past 3 years since the resumption of his political godson Siminalayi Fubara, the people of Rivers State have not enjoyed good governance and the full benefits of having a democratically elected Governor. I believe that this protracted and continuing fight between the Minister Wike and, Governor Fubara will continue to deny the people of Rivers State the good governance.

In my view,  the impeachment proceeding is a calculated attempt to oust Governor Fubara is a zero-sum game played by Minister Wike’s camp to ensure that the incumbency and political career of governor Fubara are upended. Sadly, initial attempts by President Tinubu to resolve the impasse have not worked out, and I am not sure other entreaties will work.

    “Roforofo” fight is not strategy:

It is true that Minister Wike played crucial roles to the success of President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 Presidential elections. But it is also profoundly true that President Tinubu has been adequately compensating Minister Wike and his Allies. The rhetorical question is what will be enough for Nyensom Wike? Your answers are as good as mine.

As it is today, I dare say that Mr. Wike is overplaying his hands. He cannot fight everybody at the same time and expect to win all the time. Therefore, Wike should smell the coffee, face the realities, recalibrate his strategy, and readjust his position.

Furthermore, Minister Wike’s behavior, to the leadership of the APC, with the insults and the threats he is showering on the principal actors in APC, particularly the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, is an indication of what will happen even if Nyensom Wike decamps into the APC. I reckon that even if Nyensom Wike decamps to APC, he will carry this toxic behavior and style into the APC, and that will certainly be a disaster for the APC. This is because, even though Wike may be tamed by Mr President, he is creating too many distractions for Mr. President and unnecessarily heating the polity. Indeed, Minister Wike’s behavior if unchecked, could be contagious and it may likely permeate into other power blocks within the APC at states and the national level. This will be a very bad influence at this particular time when there is the need for more cohesion to manage the power blocks and power dynamics within the APC as new entrants and support build up to the 2027 elections. Indeed, managing these power blocks is already a big task for Mr President and for the managers of the APC.

Emotional Intelligence and political sagacity are key to sustainable political stay power as demonstrated by President Tinubu in the over 30 years of his political career. Love him or hate him, President Bola Tinubu has a high level of emotional intelligence. That is how, for decades,he has been able to make and keep friends and allies across Nigeria, and even work with his enemies and/or those that hitherto fought against him. I hope that Minister Wike will learn some emotional intelligence and political sagacity from Mr. President.

APC unity and discipline must be sustained:

President Bola Tinubu is also a core party man, who believes in political party discipline and loyalty. Therefore I do not expect President Tinubu to allow Minister Wike to take the “roforofo” fight mentality to the APC or to continually fight and insult the APC leadership at the highest level while claiming he is loyal to Mr. President. As it is today in Nigeria, Mr. President is the APC, and the APC is Mr. President! Therefore attacking the APC leadership is attacking Mr. President.

Consequently, I totally align with the position of the National Chairman and the National Secretary of the APC, because any political party that intends to consolidate power and be sustainable MUST imbibe and entrench political party unity and discipline. Over the years President Tinubu has been able to maintain the discipline that has been responsible for the level of cohesion, unity and successes of his political structure over for many years in Lagos, the entire southwest and across  Nigeria, including the build-up to the APC merger in 2014. Minister Wike should also learn from that.

Therefore, commend the unanimous position take by the garrison commanders of APC, i.e, the National Chairman of APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Secretary of APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, have taken positions, at the national level to protect the APC from the emerging toxic narratives and actions by Wike, lest his actions could permeate into the APC and cause cracks and disaffections, and also set a bad leadership example to the members of the APC across Nigeria.

By the way, Minister Wike has been meddling into the politics of other States as he clearly stated himself in his verbal attack of Senator Ajibola Basiru, when he spoke tacitly about Osun politics. There are also news about his unsuccessful attempt to meddle into the politics of Imo State. His activities in the national, regional and state levels in the PDP are in public domain.  Yet Minister Wike is threatening that “nobody” can or should meddle in Rivers State politics, as if Rivers State is his private property. Certainly, the National Chairman and/ or National Secretary of the APC or any other political party will always be involved in political party activities in ALL the 36 States in Nigeria and the FCT. Certainly Mr. President has and will continue to lead the entire country and intervene on matters of States including Rivers, if and where necessary. In fact, it is President Tinubu’s interventions that prevented Rivers from descending into anarchy.

It is also noteworthy, that the importance of Rivers State in the permutations and combinations build up to 2027 elections, has changed from the 2023 elections scenario. Because the APC currently has about 30 incumbent governors as members. So the numbers and power dynamics that were critical in 2023, will not be the same in the  2027 elections.

I also don’t expect the APC under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu to allow  an APC lead State House or Assembly to impeach the Rivers State Governor who is a brand new entrant of the APC. That is not how the APC operates.

Please let the people of Rivers State Breathe:

I hope that this Wike Versus Fubara power tussle will be ended so that the people of River State, and by extension the people of Nigeria, will have good governance in Rivers State . That should be the real objective of any well meaning politician in Rivers State.

    • Ex-Ekiti governor: Rivers crisis a ‘sad narrative’

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has advised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to stop confronting Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

He said the governor should instead pursue an honest reconciliation to resolve the lingering political crisis in the state.

Addressing reporters yesterday in Lagos, Fayose described the feud between Fubara and Wike as a sad development.

The former governor insisted that Fubara should exercise restraint and manage the situation, instead of engaging in open confrontation with the minister.

He advised Fubara to stop contesting issues of political leadership with Wike, noting that the realities of power were well known to all the parties involved.

“There’s a difference between the office and 001. What brought about the 001? Who gave you the platform to call yourself the 001? It is a sad narrative for Governor Fubara to be struggling,” Fayose said. “Rather, he should manage the situation. Even if Wike is saying he is the leader, it is not for Fubara to be contesting that.”

The ex-governor appealed directly to Fubara to make peace, urging him to take steps towards reconciliation. “I want to advise Governor Fubara again. Please, go and make amends and be at peace,” he said.

Responding to claims that Fubara had apologised several times to the FCT minister, Fayose warned that not all apologies could be considered genuine.

According to him, political allies encouraging confrontation will abandon the governor should the crisis escalate.

Drawing from his personal experience, Fayose said many among those who urged him to “fight back” during his political battles disappeared when he became isolated.

The ex-governor also argued that the emergency rule imposed on Rivers State last year worked in Fubara’s favour.

He stated that impeachment would have ended the governor’s political career, if the lingering crisis had continued.

Fayose said the situation should serve as a lesson about the limits of power and the importance of political wisdom.

“The emergency rule was all-winning for Governor Fubara. By now, he would have been history because the moment you are impeached, you’re out of the way,” he said.

Fayose stressed that the Rivers governor must learn from past political experiences, including those of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He also urged Fubara to respect constitutional authority and political realities.

Fayose advised the governor to “climb down from his high horse,” seek peace with Wike, and prioritise stability in Rivers State.
