    • Bauchi governor: FCT minister should quit party
    • ‘Governors’ Forum chair full of hypocrisy’

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed yesterday clashed over the protracted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis.

The PDP chieftains differed on why the leadership conflict assailing the platform has not abated in the last two years.

Mohammed, who frowned at Wike’s appointment as minister by the Tinubu Administration, said he should resign from the PDP with immediate effect.

The governor accused Wike of betraying the party by aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

But Wike berated Mohammed for hypocrisy, recalling that he not only served as FCT minister under the PDP government when he was an All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) senator, but he also later defected to the PDP.

The minister and governor have consistently clashed over the Rivers State crisis, which has defiled solutions.

Wike, former governor of Rivers, had chided the Bauchi governor for taking sides with his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, advising him to purge himself of alleged deceit and greed.

The FCT minister blamed Mohammed and other PDP leaders for poor leadership, which is responsible for the party’s stagnation.

Mohammed said in a statement by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, that Wike is a “transactional politician” whose actions were driven by personal ambition.

He dismissed Wike’s criticisms as a desperate attempt to tarnish his image, adding that Nigerians could see through the minister’s alleged deceit.

Mohammed accused the minister of betrayal and destabilising the PDP.

He said: “Wike’s antics cannot overshadow Bala Mohammed’s record.

“His outburst is the desperate cry of a man whose political relevance is fading.

“The time for noise-making is over; it is time for governance.

“Let Wike reflect on his conduct and do the honourable thing: resign and align fully with the government he so eagerly serves.

“Until then, his words will remain as hollow as his loyalty.”

However, Wike in a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, described Mohammed as an inconsistent politician masquerading as a purist.

In the statement titled: ‘Bala Mohammed and his masturbation about Wike,’ the minister said he would not be distracted by the antics of the governor.

The statement reads: “The appointment of Barrister Nyesom Wike as a minister has remained the only excuse available for the Bauchi State governor to defend his glaring lack of capacity to lead the PDP as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.

“Wike is not the first member of opposition parties in Nigeria to serve as minister and he won’t be the last.

“The late Chief Bola Ige, a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), was a minister under the PDP government of Obasanjo.

“Dr Olu Agunloye, a member of AD then was a minister under the PDP government of Obasanjo.

“Mrs Modupe Adesanya, daughter of the late Afenifere leader and a member of AD, was a Special Adviser under the PDP government of Obasanjo.

“Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande, a member of ANPP then, was a minister under the PDP government of the late Umar Yar’Adua.

“The Governor of Bauchi, Bala Mohammed, who was a senator under ANPP, resigned from the Senate to accept ministerial appointment under the PDP government of Dr. Jonathan.

“Wike, a member of the PDP, is currently serving as a minister under the APC government of Tinubu.

“Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, a member of APGA, is currently serving as a minister under the APC government of Tinubu.

“Now, the same Bala Mohammed, who left the senatorial mandate he got as an ANPP member to become a minister under a PDP government is running his mouth like a faulty tap.

“He said he resigned after becoming a minister. But the question is: as a senator elected under the platform of ANPP, should he have accepted to be a minister under a PDP government?

“That he defected to the PDP a few months after becoming a minister is a further demonstration of his ‘anywhere-belle-face’ politics.

“If he were offered even a Special Assistant position by the APC government of Buhari in 2015, he would have accepted it and defected to the APC.

“As for us, we are done with any object by the name Bala Mohammed.

“Reason is we have better things to do and we won’t be available to be used by any ineffectual being to launch a dead-on-arrival 2027 presidential ambition.”

The School for the Gifted, Gwagwalada, Abuja, once grappling with dilapidated facilities and crumbling infrastructure, has undergone a remarkable transformation thanks to the intervention of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The school’s principal, Bello Adamu Audu, described the extensive renovation as a lifeline that saved the institution from the brink of collapse.

“Before the Minister’s intervention, the school was in a state of sorrow, with cracked walls, broken toilets, and a roof that was falling apart. Learning was nearly impossible,” he said.

“Now, the refurbished school boasts new fans, freshly painted walls, and upgraded facilities, creating an environment that fosters learning and inspires both students and staff.

Students and staff alike expressed gratitude for the facelift but also highlighted lingering needs.

Head Girl Abdulraheem Taofeeqiyah lauded the renovation, noting its positive impact on their academic experience.

“Before, the broken boards and walls distracted us, but now, the conducive environment makes learning easier,” she said. However, she called for more chairs, modern books, and improved library facilities.

Similarly, Vice Principal Academics, Mrs. Rachael Alabi, shared her relief over the new structures, recalling how the staff room was once so unsafe they prayed for divine intervention.

“We are immensely grateful to the Minister for rescuing us, but we still hope for further support, especially in providing modern technology and furniture,” she added.

Students and teachers remain hopeful that the momentum will continue, transforming the school into a model institution for gifted learners nationwide.

The School for the Gifted, Gwagwalada, Abuja, has undergone a significant transformation following the intervention of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike. The once-dilapidated institution now boasts freshly painted walls, new fans, upgraded classrooms, and improved facilities, creating an environment that fosters learning and inspires excellence. However, while staff and students celebrated the changes, they also called for further improvements to sustain the momentum.

In addition, the Head Boy Binuyo Dabira Goodnews praised the renovation for resolving long-standing issues such as inadequate dining facilities and non-functional classroom amenities.

“Before the intervention, the dining hall couldn’t accommodate all 600 students, and many had to eat outside or wait for hours. Now, every student has a space, and we no longer face delays,” he said.

However, Binuyo appealed for more resources, including additional furniture and updated facilities, to support the school’s high-achieving students.

“Our teachers and environment helped me excel in national competitions, but we still need more tools like modern computers and a school bus to make learning and representation easier,” he added.

Library Prefect Ikenta Ifechukwu Belina echoed similar sentiments, expressing gratitude for the improved library but highlighting the need for updated books and digital resources.

“The renovation made the library more welcoming, especially at night, but many of the books are outdated.

“As a school known for its excellence, we need the latest materials to stay ahead,” she said.

She also called for a school bus, recounting how students often squeeze into small vehicles for competitions.

“A proper bus will allow us to represent the school better and more comfortably,” she noted.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Department (HOD) Mathematics,Mr Ezeigbo Chidozie expressed gratitude for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister,  intervention in transforming the school environment, while appealing for further enhancements to aid teaching and learning.

“We sincerely thank the Minister for renovating our classrooms and providing essential tools like functional boards. However, as Oliver Twist, we are asking for more, especially digital upgrades. Our students are highly inquisitive, and we need modern tools like computers, smart boards, and other equipment to make learning concrete and interactive,” he said.

He explained that before the renovation, the school faced numerous challenges, including dilapidated classrooms that hindered effective learning.

“The environment was far from conducive, and the lack of resources meant we had to rely on outdated materials. The recent changes have brought relief, but we still need 21st-century books and digital tools to keep up with the students’ needs,” he added.

The teacher also highlighted the dedication required to meet the demands of teaching at the school, stating, “Our students are hyperactive and constantly ask challenging questions. It’s not easy, but with continued support from the government, we can unlock their full potential.”

As the school basks in its new found glory, the voices of its community remain united in gratitude for the Minister’s efforts and hopeful for further support to elevate the institution to global standards.

Praising the leadership of the AMAC Chairman, Wike lauded the council’s ability to execute projects that directly impact the community.

He promised the inclusion of the Zaudna to Kagini Road project in the 2025 budget.

The Minister reiterated the Tinubu administration’s focus on equitable development across Abuja, stating that every area council will benefit from at least one road project in the 2025 budget.

FCT doctors suspend warning strike following Wike’s intervention

The Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory (ARD-FCT) has suspended its three-day warning strike after the intervention of the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesome Wike.

The President of the Association, Dr. George Ebong, in a statement on Friday night said the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the minister had met their demands.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that ARD-FCT had on Wednesday, Jan. 22, commenced a three-day warning strike to press home some demands from the FCTA.

The strike grounded most the government hospitals in the FCT, as the doctors claimed that some of them employed in 2023 were yet to received some arrears, allowances, and other benefits.

The doctors also listed the deplorable conditions of some the hospitals in the FCT, manpower shortage among other demands.

However, Ebong in the statement revealed that its members have started receiving the alerts of unpaid six-month salary arrears.

The ARD-FCT President said that the Minister had approved, as well as ordered immediate payment of the accoutrement allowance owed members.

He said that the Minister had also given approval for medical residency bonding training to 2 years; approval of immediate employment of doctors and allied health workers.

Ebong said that the Minister had also given approval for payment of locum doctors and other health workers that were being owed, noting that “with the intervention of the Minister, doctors are expected to resume work with immediate effect.”

He added that the intervention had also put an end to the impending indefinite shutdown of hospitals in Abuja, while urging the Minister to brace-up and meet other demands to avert future strike action.

“On behalf of the executive members and the entire supreme congress of ARD-FCTA, I, Dr. George Ebong, deeply appreciate the Minister for his prompt and timely intervention in meeting our demands, thereby ending our warning strike.

“We also humbly plead with the Minister to put a mechanism in place to avoid a repeat of this anomaly. We are hopeful that other demands will be attended to in due time,” Ebong said.

The ARD-FCTA President expressed the association’s believes in the capacity of the Minister to turn the FCT health sector around as a stakeholder in the renew hope agenda.

Ebong also used the opportunity to invite the Minister to all the district hospitals in the FCT, while assuring him of doctors continued support in the realisation of the administration’s renew hope agenda.

Wike to Bala Muhammed: You lack capacity to lead PDP

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Muhammed has been advised to stop using the appointment of Nyesom Wike as minister by President Bola Tinubu as an excuse for his lack of capacity to provide leadership as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum.

Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, in his reaction to a statement by the Bauchi State Governor, casting aspersions on the Minister, said: “it is funny that a known fair-weather politician like Bala Mohammed was the one calling someone else transactional politician.”

Olayinka reminded Bala Mohammed how he dumped his political godfather and former Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda in 2007 and as a member of the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), also dumped former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2010 for a ministerial appointment under the PDP government of President Goodluck Jonathan.

He asked how Wike being a Minister under the government of President Bola Tinubu, was the reason Bala Mohammed has failed as Chairman of PDP Governors Forum, while running after PDP ticket to contest for President in 2027, a position that he should know will remain in the South till 2031.

The statement reads in part; “Our attention has been drawn to the ‘say nothing’ press statement that took six days to write, issued by the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, and we can’t but sympathize with a man who, out of political greed, has chosen to plunge himself into the deepest part of the river despite not knowing how to swim.

“First, Governor Bala Mohammed is holding the position of Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum out of political greed, because by convention and practice, the position should be held by one of the PDP Governors in the South. Reason being that the immediate past Chairman of the Forum was from the North, same as the PDP National Chairman.”

    • FCT minister inaugurates roads in Kuje

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is not about party politics but about changing the lives of Nigerians for the better.

Wike said this while inaugurating the five-kilometre dualised Kuje township road, which runs from Tipper Garage Junction to LEA Secretariat in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

The minister described President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a reality, assuring the people that it is not about partisan politics but about the desire to touch the lives of Nigerians.

“I can assure you that with your continuous support, you will get more things in Kuje. Mr. Chairman, it has nothing to do with the party; it has to do with your people.

“Party is a vehicle that conveys you. When you get to where you are heading to, you come down. President Tinubu’s administration is not about the party. It is about Nigerians; changing the lives of Nigerians. That is what we are doing here,” he said.

Wike explained that the execution of various people-oriented projects across the six area councils was in fulfilment of President Tinubu’s pre-election promise to Abuja residents.

To the residents, he said: “You have fulfilled your own part. The covenant Mr. President has entered with you was that you should vote for him. Having voted for him, Mr. President is now coming to fulfil parts of his own agreement.

“You, having performed your own agreement, President Tinubu is now coming to perform his agreement by providing basic infrastructure for you.

“We know we have not got to the point you all want, but by the grace of God, we will get there.

“My people say: ‘Small, small, you will catch a monkey.’ We are getting there,” he said.

The FCT minister, who could not hide his excitement over the display of joy by the people of Kuje, stressed that the essence of governance was to make people happy.

“Since you are happy, then we are happy. When you are not happy, we cannot be happy,” he added.

Also, Wike said President Tinubu’s administration had approved N50 billion for the provision of potable water to Abuja’s satellite towns.

While some parts of Kubwa-Abuja’s largest suburban town – Bwari, Gwagwalada and a few others – have access to public water supply, several other satellite areas rely on privately-dug boreholes to get potable water.

The minister said the President was determined to do more for Abuja residents.

The project, which started last February, has about 162 solar-powered streetlights.

Addressing a huge crowd of happy residents, Wike said: “If you see our national budget, which Mr. President has submitted to the National Assembly sometime last year, we went to China, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a company called CGC to provide water to the satellite towns, and one of the area councils is Kuje Area Council.

“So, in this year’s budget, Mr. President has provided N50 billion to provide water for the satellite towns, of which Kuje will be a beneficiary.”

…commissions 9-kilometer Paiko Kore – Ibwa road in Gwagwalada

Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed how President Bola Tinubu expended N300 billion on the six Area Councils in the FCT within the last 17 months.

The minister disclosed this in Ibwa village, Gwagwalada Area Council when he commissioned the 9-kilometre Paikon Kore – Ibwa road which cost N8.5 billion.

Wike said: “Mr President committed N8.5 billion to construct this road. The Aguma Palace – Market Road is N22b and it will be commissioned in May this year.

“We have completed and we are still renovating the School for the Gifted Gwagwalada, Government Secondary School Gwagwalada, Government Secondary School Anagada, Government Secondary School Tunga Maje and Government Secondary School, Giri. The total value for these is N16.5 billion. I haven’t added the three police divisions that we are building in Gwagwalada.

“If you calculate the total value of what Mr President has committed to Gwagwalada alone, it is over N50 billion in less than two years.

“If you now add all the six Area Councils, you will see that Mr President has committed not less than N300b for the development of satellite towns.

“It is important for people to have these details so that people will not go and start saying Mr President is developing only the city centre”.

Coordinator, FCT Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, recalled that the contract for the Paikon Kore – Ibwa road was awarded on January 5, 2024, while work commenced on the site on January 12, 2024.

“We are here today, January 22, 2025, to commission the road. This road has enhanced business opportunities and the transport of goods and services”, he stated.

Community Liaison Officer on the project, Ibrahim Maikeri, told journalists who were in the area on an independent assessment of some projects, that over 70 communities along that road stretch have been positively impacted by the road construction.

According to him, the Paikon Kore-Ibwa road had long been neglected after it was first constructed over five decades ago, thereby making it difficult for farmers to sell their produce outside Paikon Kore due to the deplorable state of the road.

Wike hails Tinubu, commissions 5km Abaji road

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has urged Abuja residents to continue to support President Bola Tinubu for more dividends of democracy.

Wike said Tinubu is passionate about the development of area councils.

The Minister said this while commissioning a nine-kilometer road in Abaji Area Council of the nation’s capital, Abuja.

The access road connects Naharati, River Ukya to Ungwan Hausawa community in Abaji Area Council.

Wike, during the commissioning, told Abaji people that they should expect another road as contained in the 2025 budget.

The Minister recalled that in October 2023  he flagged off the road project with a promise to deliver in December, 2024, noting that the contractor delivered the job before schedule by November last year.

He said the project was a promise made and a promise kept.

He charged the people not to categorize them as other politicians who promise and fail.

Wike also assured the people that two police divisions are under construction in the area council as well as the Abuja University of Technology, Abaji, AUTA.

He said: “We did make a promise, as requested, that more police divisions are needed to beef up the security in Abaji. And we promise, by the grace of God, we shall provide two more police divisions in Abaji.

“I also did tell you that day that whatever we agree, go home and rest, we shall fulfill it. I want to thank the company; they completed this project in November. Today we are in January 2025, we flagged it off in January 2024, we are commissioning today in January 2025.

“In next few months, we will also come back and hand over the two police divisions that we are building for you. We made a promise that we are going to provide infrastructure in Abaji University. As we speak now, you are aware construction is going on in that university.”

The Minister also expressed commitment to developing the rural areas, just like he is developing the city centre.

“I told everybody who cares that, while we are developing the city, we will also develop the satellite towns. Throughout this week, from today till Friday, we will devote ourselves to commissioning of projects in the six area councils. So that everybody will know that we are not only concentrating in the city, as we are developing the city, so also, we will be developing the satellite towns.

“Every promise we have made, be assured that we are going to fulfill the promises. Don’t take us as the usual politicians, no, ours is to make a promise and fulfill the promise to the people.”

Wike assured the people of another road project: “Another road is on the way, as in this year’s 2025 budget.”

Abaji is a South western gateway to the FCT, about one and half hours’ drive to the city centre.
