Let’s support Tinubu for more infrastructural development – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has canvassed support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to achieve more dividends of democracy.

While challenging for many, 2024, Wike said was admittedly remarkable for the FCT, as the administration recorded significant achievements that have set the foundation for sustained development.

The Minister, in his New Year message, said the accomplishments demonstrate collective effort and commitment to building a prosperous, unified, progressive FCT.

Wike said: “Let us remain committed to ensuring that the FCT continues to stand as the proper Centre of Unity, upholding the dreams of our founding fathers.

“This administration remains steadfast in its determination to transform the FCT into one of the best capital territories in the world. We can achieve the collective dream of a thriving, and prosperous FCT by supporting His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and working together in unity and cooperation.

“Together, let us embrace 2025 with hope and determination and may this year bring us closer to realizing our collective vision for a Federal Capital Territory that reflects the highest ideals of progress and unity.”

Among the key listed achievements in 2024, according to Wike are; massive infrastructural development, including the construction of new urban and rural roads, which he said has dramatically improved connectivity and accessibility for residents: “rural road development has significantly enhanced economic activities in our rural communities, creating opportunities and improving livelihoods.

“We also prioritized education by rehabilitating several schools, ensuring that our children learn in conducive environments and that the future generation is empowered with quality education

“Our efforts to enhance security which included the provision of over 100 vehicles to the various security agencies and implementation of bolder and innovative strategies   have yielded positive results. Residents can now sleep peacefully at night, confident of the safety of their neighborhoods.

“The creation of the Mandate Secretariat for Youth Development and other administrative changes implemented during the year have improved efficiency, accountability, and service delivery, strengthened governance, and made it more responsive to residents’ needs.

“By fostering an enabling environment for foreign and local investments, the FCT witnessed visible economic growth. This has been particularly impactful in rural areas, where infrastructural improvements have sparked economic activities and development”.

In 2025 the Minister said the administration will focus on building upon several achievements in the security sector and: “Massive infrastructural development, as a key driver of economic growth and improved quality of life will continue.

“Enhancing healthcare, education, and agricultural sectors, ensuring that every resident can access essential services.

“Tackling public transportation challenges through private sector participation, will commence in earnest, easing transportation issues and ensuring smooth mobility for residents.

“Expanding programs for youth employment and positive engagement to harness the energy and creativity of our young people for the development of the FCT. Meeting our tourism potential. Building upon our achievements in the security sector”.

In the statement he signed, the Minister further said: “As we enter 2025 with renewed hope and optimism, I extend my warmest wishes to you all, and pray that this new year brings peace, progress, and prosperity to every household within the FCT.

“I also wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for cooperating with the administration in implementing its policies and programs. Your support and understanding have driven our vision for a better FCT. I also commend your commitment to peaceful coexistence and care for each other throughout the past year

“Fellow residents, we must also recognize that sustainable development requires the active participation of all residents. I urge you to meet your civic obligations by paying taxes, dues, and levies as applicable, as these are essential for generating the revenue needed to fund developmental projects.

“Happy New Year once again, and may God bless the FCT and the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

2025 ‘ll be better for FCT residents – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesome Wike, says that the FCT Administration will do more for FCT residents in 2025.

Wike stated this after he inspected the ongoing construction Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal and Saburi – Dei Dei road, in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to him, things will get better, God willing, for residents of FCT in the coming year.

“All we still require is the support of residents; of business owners, so that we can achieve more than what we have achieved in 2024.

“So, I pray that God Almighty will continue to protect us and give us better security as we experienced in 2024.

“Everybody can see, even within this festive period, security is quite intact, and we believe in 2025, we will get a better Abuja,” he said.

On whether the outcry over ongoing demolition and enforcement of ground rent may cause a huge distraction in 2025, Wike simply said: “Nothing distracts me. I am very focused.

“Even if people are complaining, it is part of governance. You don’t expect that you will superintend over the affairs of people and then you satisfy everybody.

“People must complain, but I can tell you such complaints cannot distract us. I am very focused, and since it is part of our job, we will continue to do what is necessary.

“Forget about what people say about demolition, demolition must go ahead. We demolish shanties, we demolish illegal buildings. It doesn’t matter what anybody will say.

“At the end of the day, they will still come back to say, ‘you did a good job.’

“So, don’t bother about what people say, be focused and at the end of the day, you will achieve results for a greater number of people, not for a few individuals,” Wike added.

    • …hails Tinubu for the opportunity to serve

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing construction work at the Judges Quarters in Katampe District and other key infrastructure projects within the city.

The minister disclosed this in Abuja on Monday, while addressing reporters shortly after an inspection visit to the Judges Quarters in Katampe District and the access roads, including the interchange at the RR1 and Shehu Shagari Expressway by N16.

Wike observed significant advancements in the construction of the Judges’ Quarters and the access roads and described them as remarkable.

He said: “From the junction, you can see the roads surrounding the Judges Quarters – it’s something else entirely. The level of work carried out in the Judges Quarters is truly amazing. And look at this place; from the last time we came, we couldn’t even reach this point, and the company has now finished this major culvert. We are very happy with the progress”.

The minister emphasised that the projects align with the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to deliver tangible improvements to the lives of FCT residents.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for given him the opportunity to serve.

Wike said: “Those living here never believed they could see this level of development. This is what the Renewed Hope Agenda is all about – giving Nigerians back the hope that has been lost.”

Addressing concerns about the potential removal of properties along the road corridor, the Minister clarified that the government would adhere to proper procedures.

He said: “Relocation and compensation will be handled according to due process,” adding, “We will ensure that all affected residents are fairly compensated for any property acquired for the road project.”

The minister appealed to the community to cooperate and support the project, highlighting its significant benefits to the area.

“Imagine how it was and see how it is now. When it is finished with streetlights everywhere, it will benefit them,” the Minister stressed.

When asked to evaluate his performance as minister so far, Barrister Wike said he was not in a position to do so and said: “We have a presidential monitoring team, and they will evaluate our performance.

“But I am delighted with what the government has achieved in the FCT.

Wike lashes Odili for taking sides with Fubara

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike yesterday fired back at former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili, saying that “an elder statesman should not be a trader and a sycophant all the time.”

Wike, who spoke during the Special Thanksgiving Service organised by House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule at the Anglican Church, Oro-Igwe/Eliogbolo, Port Harcourt, said the former governor has not potrayed himself as a father and an elderstatesman.

“Must you be a trader all the time? As governor for eight years, what else are you looking for?” the minister queried.

Odili, who spoke on the protracted Rivers political crisis at the weekend,  threw his weight behind Governor Siminialayi Fubara, saying that the governor has prevented the minister from converting the state into his private estate.

The minister said in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, that Odili has exhibited inconsistency in his assessment of his roles.

Wike expressed surprise that Odili, who praised him when he was governor had turned around to castigate him.

He said: “You know, I didn’t want to say anything. But somebody called me last night, and told me what someone said in the social media. I said until I read it myself. This morning, I read in the newspapers, what our former Governor, Sir Dr Peter Odili said.

“What did he say? He said that the present governor has been able to stop one man who wanted to convert Rivers State to his personal estate.

“Between him and myself, who has turned Rivers State to his personal estate? His wife is a Chairman of Governing Council, his daughter is a commissioner, his other daughter is a judge and he is the general overseer. Who has now turned Rivers State to his private estate? I am sure if care is not taken, if there is a chance, he can even arrange a marriage for the governor.

“It was his nephew, his late senior brother’s son that was recommended for commissioner. He took the slot and gave it to his own daughter. Someone who didn’t remember to stand for the son of his late elder brother, is that an elder statesman?”

The FCT minister said it was painful that Odili, out of political sycophancy, has forgotten all that he said in the past about him.

Wike added: “All of you here remember when I was governor, this same Odili praised me to high heaven. In fact, he said then that all past governors in Rivers State combined did not do better than me.

“In 2007 after he left office, he couldn’t come near power in the state because Amaechi was the governor then. He was gone.

“Like somebody said that God will use someone to lift up someone. When I came in as governor in 2015, I won’t use the word resurrected, but I brought him back to life.

“All of us know about PAMO University. But for us, there wouldn’t have been anything called PAMO University. Rivers State was sponsoring 100 students per session and for every semester, each of the students was paying nothing less than N5m. Then, Rivers people were attacking me up and down.

“I personally called Julius Berger to build a mansion for him to live. He was calling everyone to the house then, telling them, come and see what Wike has done for me. Wike has shown me love. He was taking them round the house.

“Now, because you have organised a Christmas Carol for the governor, I didn’t say you should not do your Christmas Carol. But why reduce yourself to such a laughing stock. People will still see it on television how he was telling the whole world then how God used me to bring him back to life politically.

“Why not do your Christmas Carol, collect what you can collect and leave me alone?

“The governor that all of us made has not spent one year in office and the same Odili was already saying that the governor has beaten the records of all the past governors of Rivers State”.

Chiding the former governor for inconsistency, Wike said there is nothing to learn from Odili.

He said: “When I  was there, he said I had surpassed the records of all the past governors, including himself. What can he even show that he did in his eight years as governor? But a governor has not spent one year, you are saying he has done more than all the past governors.

“You spent eight years as governor and someone who hasn’t spent one year has surpassed your records, what manner of elder talk like that? Is that what an elder statesman should be known for?

“When I was governor, my pictures were everywhere in his house. Sitting room, bedroom, kitchen, even in the toilet, my picture was everywhere. But today, all the pictures have been removed”.

He added: “What can I learn from this kind of elder? What kind of advice can one get from him? This moment you are saying something, the next moment you are saying something else.

“You see, if your children begin to ask you, is this not the same man you were praising before? What would you tell them?”

Wike recalled that Odili never supported Fubara for governor ahead of last year’s election.

He stressed: “When I was plotting who will be governor after me, was he (Odili) there? Then, he was complaining about this governor, saying that he couldn’t stand before the public to talk.

“But today, he is organizing Christmas Carol for the same governor he was against then.

“He has forgotten all that he said in the past. I named this after you, I named that after your wife. What have I not done?”

Wike fired salvos at Fubara, saying that sycophants milling around him cannot help his cause.

He said: “You said we should not be part of the government, we have left. We are managing, you have taken assembly money, they are not dying of hunger and they will not die of hunger. We are okay. I’m focusing on my job in Abuja and all these sycophancy won’t take him to the level I have attained.”

The minister said Odili lacked courage, recalling that he abandoned his presidential ambition midway out of fear.

His words: “This is a man who wanted to run for president then, he didn’t have the balls, he chickened out. Simply because Obasanjo said no, he will not contest, he ran away. Because of him, I never invited Obasanjo to Rivers State to commission projects. I felt it will humiliate him.”

Martin Chike Amaewhule, at the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Oro-Igwe/Eliogbolo Archdeaconry Church of the Holy Spirit, Eliozu Parish, Port Harcourt on Sunday, said it was unfortunate that somebody who is supposed to be seen as an elder statesman and called a father can reduce himself to a sycophant and a trader.

He asked: “Must you be a trader all the time? As governor for eight years, what else are you looking for?”

The minister said; “You know, I didn’t want to say anything. But somebody called me last night, and told me what someone said in the social media. I said until I read it myself. This morning, I read in the newspapers, what our former Governor, Sir Dr Peter Odili said.

“You see, if your children begin to ask you, is this not the same man you were praising before? What would you tell them?”

  • Why I moved against Secondus, by Wike

Why I moved against Secondus, by Wike

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, yesterday shed light on why Prince Uche Secondus was sacked as national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said:”I kicked him out for plotting to make his cousin, Tele Ikuru, governor of Rivers State, instead of Siminialayi Fubara.”

The minister also fired salvos at critics of the Abuja land policy, saying that there is no going back on the war against land grabbers.

Secondus was removed as PDP natiinal chairman in 2022 when Wike was governor of Rivers State.

Although many aspirants from other zones competed for the PDP governorship slot, the former governor insisted that the slot should be zoned to the lowland area of the state where Fubara hails from.

Wike reflected on the succession battle during the ‘End of Year Thanksgiving’ organised by the PDP stakeholders in Ahoada East and Ahoada West at Ukpata community, Ekpeye Kingdom.

The organisers included former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives Chibudum Nwuche; Chairman, Rivers State PDP Elders’ Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba; members of House of Representatives Solomon Bob and Victor Obuzor, and member of the House of Assembly, Dame Queen Williams.

Others are a former Ahoada West Local Government Chairman Hope Ikiriko; former Chairman of Ahoada East, Benjamin Eke and the PDP Chairman, Ahoada East, Charles Luke.

Ekpeye stakeholders, including members of the PDP, the All Progressives Congress (APC), ‘Wikematic Students,’ non-indigenes, women and children also witnessed the service.

The minister was accompanied by former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu; Chairman of APC in Rivers, Tony Okocha and his counterpart in PDP, Emeka Aaron, OCJ Okocha;  and the Minority of Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda.

Rejecting being labelled as enemy of Fubara, the minister, who also chided Celestine Omehia  for attacking him, lamented that those who worked for Fubara’s victory are now ridiculed as enemies.

He said those who opposed Fubara’s ambition,  including Secondus, are now wining and dining with the governor.

The minister disclosed that he kicked Secondus out as PDP National Chairman because he hatched to make Ikuru governor.

Wike, who rejected Omehia’s remark that he has not attracted any development to Rivers as minister, said that the PDP chieftain lacked the understanding of the functions of an FCT Minister.

He said the FCT Minister has territorial jurisdiction and cannot attract infrastructural projects like roads and schools to his home state.

However, Wike recalled that when he served as the Minister of State for Education, he attracted many projects to Rivers State, including the Faculty of Law to Rivers University and grants to the higher institutions in the state.

Wike also said no governor has attracted more appointments to his state than him in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

He said: “I heard Secondus say the other day in Bori, I awarded the Bori Internal Road. I paid 50 per cent and thinking that we have a governor that we all agreed to continue, Secondus was saying we are his enemies. Who are the enemies of the governor? Secondus that refused him to be governor.

“I kicked out Secondus as PDP chairman of the party when he wanted to make his cousin, Tele Ikuru, governor.  Today, he is saying now that we are enemies. He was the one, who refused the man to be governor; he wanted his cousin to be governor. He has now become the governor’s friend and we have now become the enemies. To God be the glory.”

“I overheard one imbecile, and let him challenge me, an imbecile Celestine Omehia. I say so. That is why when he wanted to occupy Government House, I kicked him out. We could not have  imbecile to be governor.

“He said they should ask me what have I done for Rivers State. That is why I say he is an imbecile.  If he understands that I am not a minister of a ministry, I am a minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

“When I was minister of Education, he would have challenged me what did you bring to Rivers State? I was a minister of education. I brought faculty of Law to University of Port Harcourt. I gave grants to Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic,  I gave grant to Ignatius Ajuru University, Federal Government College, Port Harcourt,  Federal Government Girls College, Abuloma. I renovated them to be what a school is supposed to be. That is what I thought he should be asking me.

“Now, I am the minister of the FCT. I cannot bring road to Rivers State,  I can not take FCT money to Rivers State, but I can help Rivers people. And I have been helping Rivers people.

“Let it be on record that by the instrumentality of Mr President,  there is no governor of this state that attracted more political appointments in this state than myself. Go and count it.

“By the instrumentality of Mr President, by his grace, by his love for us, he said, go and give me these names for political appointments.  So, Mr Omehia,  are you not aware that Rivers people have more political appointments than even when you are serving somebody? Are you not aware?

“Today, they thought because they have collected what you suffered for, therefore, you will die of hunger. You will not die. Would you die? You will not die. We have been helping Rivers people and we will continue to help Rivers people”.

Wike queried the characters of people occupying traditional stools in Ekpeye land, saying they lacked integrity.

He recalled that during his tenure, he took it upon himself to elevate traditional stools in Ekpeye to first class positions, adding that prior to his government, no Ekpeye monarch enjoyed such privilege.

He said the monarchs’ recent pronouncement that they had endorsed Fubara for a second term was dead on arrival because they lack the capacity to actualise such mission.

Wike, who declared that he was proud to have married from Ekpeye Kingdom, said the people of the area remembered many of his projects.

He recalled that his administration awarded the Government Girls Secondary School project in Ekpeye, paid 50 per cent of the contract sum and asked the governor to ensure the completion of the project.

He said he constructed the Ahoada – Oboku road and directed that Omoku should be connected.

Wike said: “Some of you talk about traditional rulers. When I came onboard, I did what every other governor ran away from, that if we create or recognise cheifdoms, there will be a lot of crisis. When I came on board, Ekpeye had only one first class monarch.

“Today, all the Ekpeye cheifdoms are first-class.  I recognised Engene as first class. No previous governor had the audacity to do it. But I did it and I said the heaven will not fall. Did the heaven fall? Heaven will not fall.

“I did that, not because of the  people who occupy it, but because Ekpeye is entitled to have first-class as other people have in the state. So, it is not these individuals, who have no character,   it is not because of them I recognised the stool. I recognised it because of Ekpeye people.

“So, why are you worried they are still the same people, when somebody comes to them they are willing to pour libation. So, do not bother about them saying that we adopt so so person. They cannot even lobby to recognise themselves. How can they determine who will be?

“So, do not bother. We are done with that. I am proud to have married from Ekpeye.  Today, your daughter is a justice of Court of Appeal.

Wike reflected on the ongoing land-related battles in Abuja, saying that the rules should be enforced  in the FCT, although the regulations were ignored by the previous administration.

He said the fact that no government in the past enforced the ground rules would not stop the Renewed Hope administration of President Tinubu from doing so.

Wike said: “Do not bother. People say I am controversial. if being controversial  is because you want the right thing to be done, I prefer it so.

“People say land grabbing. Do you grab what you are in charge of? I am in charge of land in Abuja. How would I go and grab what I am in charge of?

“Those, who are grabbing land are those I am dealing with and that is why we must thank Mr President. If he didn’t give us this opportunity, we would not have known the way this country is.

“Here in Rivers, we thought it was difficult. But when you go to a capital territory of a country, you know that you are dealing with entire Nigerians.

“People think that because yesterday, nobody was able to implement rules, it means that today, nobody would be able to do it. It means that tomorrow, nobody will be able to do it. No, it is not like that. The mere fact that no government was able to do it yesterday doesn’t mean that this Renewed Hope Agenda government can not do it today.

“That is why I can assure you that no matter the cry you cry, no matter the propaganda you carry, I will do what is right. If you like, give me any name you want to give me. You heard what the president said, Nigerians do not like to comply.

“Simple thing, comply, because they think some of us, you can threaten us, you can blackmail us. I is fake. It won’t work. I do not even know whether you are blackmailing me, I am not interested. My interest is that I am doing what is right and even if heaven comes, I will still do it”.

Wike praised Nwuche, other PDP leaders and members of the House of Assembly in his camp, saying they had stood firm despite the challenges foisted on them by the same government they worked tirelessly to enthrone.

He said: “I heard somebody came in here the other day and was insulting Chibudum. I was the one who awarded Government Girls Secondary School. One of those contractors is Eric Appiah and Marshal Uwom from Abua. I gave them. I paid 50 per cent,  and told them when the governor come make sure that this project is completed.

“That was the essence of bringing a governor we thought we will all work together.  I was the one who made sure, first of all, to dualise Ahoada road to Odioku Junction. I awarded that one to Omoku  by signing agreement with Julius Berger that they should collect eight billion Naira every month from our Internally Generated Revenue.

“I thought that we are doing the right thing when people like Chibudum and all of us sat down to say okay, bring this young boy, let him continue where we have stopped. But he came here,  abused Chibudum and said the road has been cancelled.  You can cancel as much as you want. But these are people who worked day and night to make sure somebody emerged”.

Wike added: “They went to Omuma. Iwas the one who awarded that contract and called the young man and said sit down, see where I have stopped, make sure this road is completed.

“The Ring Road is my idea. Let them tell me one project that they initiated. On the 27th of May 2023, I went to Opobo. That was one of the last things I did before leaving office. The job was given to Lubrik Construction. I awarded the ring road of Opobo and I paid 50 per cent.

“And I called him, and said; this is your community, you must make sure, even if you do not do anything, you must make sure that this ring road  is completed.  If we did not say you should be governor,  if God did not use us, to say you will be governor, will all these statements come?

“ Look at the people here. When you see people, associate with ingrates, they are also ingrates. People who can’t stand, they want to be in power every time. How you know human beings are like this, when there was presidential election in this country,  that’s how you know people of character.

“People came to me, and told me that I was taking a big risk, that if PDP wins, that they will chase me out, that they will send me to jail, that EFCC will arrest me. I said all these plot you people are having, do you know the plot of God? Do you know God’s own plot? I said in my conscience, I will not support you.

“I will support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, no matter the consequence. That is how you know men of character.  It is about my people.  Nobody should say we are second class citizens.  That is why we insisted and I have no regrets. I have no apologies  and if the opportunity comes,  I will do the same thing”.

Wike appealed to the people to remain steadfast, adding that the current dispensation would end and they would smile again.

He said: “Continue to be steadfast, continue to be men of honour and integrity. That is what matters. Once people know you as a man of principle,  as a man of character,  it is bigger than money.

“I would not have been FCT Minister today, under the present administration if we did not take the risk we took. If we did not say this is our stand. That is how life is. So, I thank all of you, you have done well, keep it up, and when temptation comes, do not worry, you will overcome.”

Wike said despite the exotic vehicles and other gifts some bishops got from him, they still went to Opobo to abuse him.

He said: “Do not bother about hungry traditional rulers, they can only be traditional rulers.  What about religious rulers? Bishops. Before I left office, there is no bishop in the Anglican Communion that I did not give land. Not one. That I didn’t buy SUV for, not one. But immediately I left office, one of them went to Opobo and was abusing me, and people called my attention and I said what is your problem?”

The minister added: “I am not a man you will see here in the night and in the afternoon I am saying a different thing. I will not do that.  They are are imitating us, copycats. No even amendment small. At least, make an amendment.

“Put some originality in what you are trying to copy. What we have done here is what we are replicating in the FCT.   We have shown the capacity. They thought that they will carry propaganda that we did not do anything in Rivers, but what they are seeing in Abuja has shut their mouth up”.

Wike, who hailed the unity between the PDP and the APC in the state, commended the Tony Okocha-led APC for identifying with the PDP at the event.

He asked the people to keep supporting President Tinubu, saying that he would not be there without Mr. President.

We are behind Wike, says Nwuche

Nwuche said Ekpeye people were solidly behind Wike, thanking him for implementing developmentat projects in the area.

He said only grateful people would receive more from God, adding that despite the shenanigans of the state government, they would recover the state at the right time.

He thanked President Tinubu for appointing Wike as the minister and expressed happiness that Abuja was developing rapidly.

Nwuche said: Today is a thanksgiving day for the PDP in Ahoada East and Ahoada West. We chose today to give gratitude to God. Like the preacher said as it is in the Bible, ‘Those that give gratitude can ask for more from God. Those that don’t will have their journeys cut short’.

“We have come to give gratitude to God because our members here, many of them toiled on instructions to bring forth a government in Rivers State. They believe that now is their time of rejoicing, but God knows best.

“The time is ticking and very soon, we shall reclaim our state.  I want to commend the President for appointing somebody of your capacity as Minister of the FCT. You have shown to Nigerians that what you did in Rivers State was not a fluke, but it’s your nature to transform states and cities.

“Wike is working. Abuja is being transformed. Projects awarded 20-years ago are now being completed. Abuja is truly a modern city comparable to any in the world.

“Forget all the noise they  make. We appreciate you for the projects in Ekpeye. Ekpeye has seen over four governments from Ada George to Dr Peter Odili, to Rotimi Amaechi. You are the only governor who has given Ekpeye and Egene a pride of place. The projects are numerous”.

The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Ferdinand Alabrabra, said the organisers were simply showing gratitude to their political leader, who as a governor, impacted positively on Rivers.

Stressing thatWike isthe most talked about minister, he said: “Some said he is controversial but the President himself said Wike is a good man and a performing Minister. I join the President to doff my hart”.

In their goodwill messages, members of the House of Representatives and House of Assembly said they were prepared for the battle ahead.

    • …says Tinubu has given more appointments to Rivers out of love

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, for classifying him and his camp as enemies of the Rivers governor, Siminialayi Fubara.

Wike, who was a Special Guest of Honour at an End of Year Thanksgiving organised on Thursday by the PDP stakeholders in Ahoada East and Ahoada West at Ukpata community in Ekpeye Kingdom, also lambasted Celestine Omehia for saying that he had attracted nothing to Rivers as a minister.

The minister further responded to critics who referred to him as a land grabber, wondering how he could be grabbing something that is constitutionally placed under his custody.

The Thanksgiving was put together by a former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Chibudum Nwuche; Chairman, Rivers State PDP Elders’ Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba; members of the House of Representatives from the area, Solomon Bob and Victor Obuzor; and member of the state House of Assembly, Dame Queen Williams.

Others in attendance included a former Local Government Chairman of Ahoada West, Hope Ikiriko; former Chairman of Ahoada East, Benjamin Eke; and the PDP Chairman, Ahoada East, Charles Luke.

A crowd of Ekpeye stakeholders, including members of the PDP, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Wikematic Students, non-indigenes, women, and children, attended the event.

A former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; Chairman of APC in Rivers, Tony Okocha and his counterpart in PDP, Emeka Aaron, OCJ Okocha; Minority, Leader, House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda were among the dignitaries at the occasion

Wike, who reacted to some of the verbal attacks directed to him by Secondus and Omehia during the recent project inauguration by Governor Fubara, said it was unfortunate that the real enemies like Secondus, who opposed the emergence of Fubara as governor were dining him.

He said those, who stood by his decision to make Fubara governor, had suddenly become enemies of Rivers, while the real detractors had become friends.

The Minister disclosed that he kicked Secondus out of office as the PDP National Chairman because he hatched a plot to make his cousin and former Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, Rivers governor in place of Fubara.

Wike mocked Omehia for saying that he had not attracted any development to the state as a minister describing him as an imbecile.

He said Omehia was stopped from becoming a governor of Rivers through the backdoor adding that the PDP chieftain lacked knowledge of the functions of an FCT Minister.

He told Omehia that the FCT Minister has territorial jurisdiction and cannot attract infrastructural projects like roads and schools to his home state.

Refreshing the memories of Omehia, he said when he served as the Minister of State for Education, he attracted many projects to Rivers State.

Specifically, Wike recalled that he brought the Faculty of Law to Rivers as a minister of education and paid grants to higher institutions in Rivers among others.

He said though he could not bring infrastructural projects to Rivers as the FCT Minister, he has been helping Rivers people adding that no governor had attracted more appointments to his state than him in the present administration of President Bola Tinubu.

He said President Tinubu through him graciously approved Rivers indigenes to occupy many offices in his government out the President’s love for Rivers.

Wike said: “I heard Secondus say the other day in Bori, I awarded the Bori Internal Road. I paid 50 per cent and thinking that we have a governor that we all agreed to continue, Secondus was saying that his enemies. Who are the enemies of the governor? Secondus that refused him to be governor.

“I kicked out Secondus as PDP chairman of the party when he wanted to make his cousin Tele Ikuru to be Governor.  Today, he is saying now that we are enemies. He was the one, who refused the man to be governor,  he wanted his cousin to be governor. He has now become the governor’s friend and we have now become the enemies. To God be the glory.

“I overheard one imbecile, and let him challenge me, an imbecile Celestine Omehia. I say so that is why when he wanted to occupy government house I kicked him out.

I was a minister of education, I brought faculty of Law to University of Port Harcourt. I gave grants to Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic,  I gave grant to Ignatius Ajuru University,  I made sure Federal government Collage Port Harcourt,  Federal government Girls Collage, Abuloma, I renovated them to be what a school is supposed to be. That is what I thought he should be asking me.

“Now I am the minister of the FCT, I cannot bring road to Rivers State,  I can not take FCT money to Rivers State but I can help Rivers people. And I have been helping Rivers people.

“Let it be on record that by the instrumentality of Mr President,  there is no governor in this state that attracted more political appointments in this state than myself. Go and count it.

“By the instrumentality of Mr President by his grace, by his love for us, he said, go and give me these names for political appointments.  So, Mr Omehia,  are you not aware that Rivers people have more political appointments than even when you are serving somebody? Are you not aware?

“Today, they thought because the have collected what you suffered for therefore you will die of hunger, you will not die, will you die? You will not die. We have been helping Rivers people and we will continue to help Rivers people”.

The former Rivers Governor queried the characters of people occupying traditional stools in Ekpeye land saying they lacked integrity.

He recalled that during his tenure, he took it upon himself to elevate all traditional stools in Ekpeye to first class position recalling that prior to his government, no Ekpeye monarch enjoyed such privilege.

He said the monarchs’ recent pronouncement that they had endorsed Fubara for a second term was dead on arrival adding that they lacked the capacity to actualise such mission.

Wike, who declared that he was proud to have married from Ekpeye Kingdom, said he was happy that the people of the area remembered many of his projects in the area.

He recalled that his administration awarded the Government Girls Secondary School project in Ekpeye, paid 50 per cent of the contract sum and asked the governor to ensure the completion of the project.

He said he constructed the Ahoada Road to Oboku and awarded the project to take the road to Omoku.

Wike said: “Some of you talk about traditional rulers, when I came onboard I did what every other governor ran away from, that if we create or recognised cheifdoms that there will be a lot of crisis. When I came onboard Ekpeye had only one first class monarch.

“Today, all the Ekpeye Cheifdoms are first-class.  I recognised Engene as First class. No previous governor had the audacity to do it. But I did it and I said the heaven will not fall. Did the heaven fall? Heaven will not fall.

“I recognised that not because of the  people who occupy it but because Ekpeye is entitled to have first-class as other people have in the state. So it is not these individuals, who have no character,   it is not because of them I recognised the stool, I recognised it because of Ekpeye people.

“So, why are you worried they are still the same people, when somebody comes to them they are willing to pour libation. So, do not bother about them saying that we adopt so person. They cannot even lobby to recognise themselves, so how can they determine who will be?

“So do not bother, we are done with that. I am proud to have married from Ekpeye.  Today your daughter is a justice of Court of Appeal.

Wike reflected on the ongoing land-related battles in Abuja saying he must enforce the rules in the FCT even if such regulations were ignored by the previous administration.

He said the fact that no government in the past enforced the ground rules would not stop the Renewed Hope administration of President Tinubu from doing so.

Wike said: “Do not bother, people say controversial. if being controversial  is because you want the right thing to be done, I prefer it so.

“People say land grabbing, do you grab what you are in charge of? I am in charge of land in Abuja how will I go and grab what I am in charge of?

“Those, who are grabbing land are whom I am dealing with and that is why we must thank Mr President, he didn’t give us this opportunity we would not have known the way this country is.

“Here in Rivers we thought it was difficult but when you go to a capital territory of a country you know that you are dealing with entire Nigerians.

“People think that because yesterday nobody was able to implement rules, it means that today, nobody would be able to do it. It means that tomorrow nobody will be able to do it. No, it is not like that. The mere fact that no government was able to do it yesterday doesn’t mean that this Renewed Hope Agenda government can not do it today.

“That is why I can assure you that no matter the cry you cry, no matter the propaganda you carry, I will do what is right. If you like give me any name you want to give me. You heard what the president said, Nigerians do not like to comply.

“Simple thing, comply, because they think some of us, you can threaten us, you can blackmail us, it is fake. It won’t work. I do not even know whether you are blackmailing me, I am not interested. My interest is that I am doing what is right and even if heaven comes, I will still do it”.

Wike praised the qualities of Nwuche, other PDP leaders and members of the House of Assembly in his camp saying they had stood firm despite despite the challenges foisted on them by the same government they worked tirelessly to enthrone.

I was the one who made sure, first of all to dualise Ahoada road to Odioku Junction. And them awarded that one to Omoku. By signing agreement with Julius Berger that they should collect 8billion Naira every month from our Internally Generated Revenue.

“I thought that we are doing the right thing when people like Chibudum and all of us sat down to say okay, bring this young boy, let him continue where we have stopped but he came here  abused Chibudum and said the road has been cancelled.  You can cancel as much as you want. But these are people who worked day and night to make sure somebody emerged”.

Strengthening some of the issues surrounding some projects in the state, Wike said: “They went to Omuma, I, was the one, who awarded that contract and called the young man and said sit down, see where I have stopped, make sure this road is completed.

“The Ring Road is my idea. Let them tell me one project that they initiated. On the 27th of May 2023. I went to Opobo. That was one of the last things I did before leaving office. The job was given to Lubrik Construction. I awarded the ring road of Opobo and I paid 50 per cent.

I said all these plot you people are having, do you know the plot of God? Do you know God’s own plot? I said in my conscience, I will not support you.

“I will support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu it does not matter the consequence. That is how you know men of character.  It is about my people.  Nobody should say we are second class citizens.  That is why we insisted and I have no regrets, I have no apologies  and if the opportunity comes,  I will do the same thing”.

Wike appealed to the people to remain steadfast adding that the current dispensation would end and they would smile again.

So, I thank all of you, you have done well, keep it up, and when temptation comes, do not worry, you will overcome”, he said

Wike further slammed some of the  bishops in Rivers saying despite all the gift of exotic vehicles and other items they got from him, they still went to Opobo to abuse him.

He said: “Do not bother about hungry traditional rulers, they can only be traditional rulers.  What about religious rulers? Bishops. Before I left office, there is no Bishop in the Anglican Communion that I did not give land. Not one. That I didn’t buy SUV for, not one. Wike said he was happy at the unity between the PDP and the APC in the state and commended the Tony Okocha-led APC for identifying with the PDP at the event.

He asked the people to keep supporting President Tinubu saying he won’t be there without Mr. President.

In his remarks, Nwuche told Wike that the Ekpeye people were solidly behind him insisting that the people of the area remained grateful for all his projects in the kingdom.

He said only grateful people would receive more from God adding that despite the shenanigans of the present state government, they would recover the state at the right time.

Christmas: Wike urges total submission to God’s commandments

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday urged total rededication to the service of Almighty God and submission to His laws among the residents of the FCT.

He said: “Since Jesus Christ, whose birth is the reason for the celebration of Christmas, obeyed the commandments of God, Christians too must keep the commandments, especially by showing love to the people around us and teaching others to do the same.”

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the FCT Minister expressed confidence that: “With the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, things will continue to improve.”

“Once again, I also sympathise with the families of victims of the recent stampedes in Abuja. I pray that God, in His infinite mercies, will grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

While reiterating that the occasion of the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ is used to rededicate ourselves to the continuous service of God and humanity, as well as total obedience to the commandments of God Almighty, the Minister said: “Christians, in particular, should continue to be obedient to the commandments of God as demonstrated by Jesus Christ because He made it very clear that those who follow Him and aspire to His Kingdom have a perpetual obligation to obey and uphold God’s law.”

Hadi’s sack: Wike not running FCTA based on religion, aide replies MURIC

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has addressed concerns following the removal of the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Shehu Ahmad Hadi.

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, urged Prof. Ishaq Akintola, Director of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), to focus on the propagation of Islam and refrain from actions that could incite religious discord.

Responding to Akintola’s comments on Hadi’s suspension, Olayinka clarified that the Minister’s decisions regarding the FCTA were not influenced by religious considerations.

He said: “the suspended FCTA Executive Secretary was not appointed as a Muslim and anyone trying to cover his suspension with the garment of religion will be doing a disservice to religious harmony in the country”.

The FCT Minister’s spokesperson pointed out that: “just as it is not obligatory for he who appoints to give reasons for appointing, it will also not be obligatory for he who suspends to tell the public reasons for suspending as long as the person suspended knows why he was suspended.

“Most importantly, the position of the FCDA Executive Secretary is not a family chieftaincy title and the business of the office once occupied by Engr. Shehu Ahmad Hadi, is running perfectly.”

While calling the attention of Prof Akintola to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) position on obedience to authorities, Olayinka said: “I doubt if Prof Akintola is aware that on the authority of Abu Huraira, it was narrated that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said; “It is obligatory for you to listen to the ruler and obey him in adversity and prosperity, in pleasure and displeasure, and even when another person is given (rather undue) preference over you.

“If Prof Akintola is aware of this and has imbibed it, he will simply counsel the suspended FCTA Executive Secretary to accept his fate as a Muslim, rather than this seeming sponsorship of media attacks against the Minister and fanning the embers of religious discord”.
