Hayyo said: “The minister of FCT, who has been described as Mr. Project, approve new constructions, renovations or rehabilitation, provision of furniture and  construction of toilets in secondary and primary schools to the tune of over N13 billion.

“Wike pledges that all the projects will be executed in 2024, we are not going to give detail of how many schools will be renovated or constructed in each Area council of the FCT because the school needs of the Area Councils are not equal.

“There are some Area Councils that the demands are higher; there are so many dilapidated and congested classrooms.

We know how the current minister of FCT changed the phase of education in Rivers state, it is the same system that he is going to do in the Federal Capital Territory, that is why he has approved the money for the school projects”.

Hayyo also said that from January till December, 2023, the Education Secretariat had trained secondary education board staff in London for British Education Training Technology show.

He listed other trainings to include: “International training on innovative/entrepreneurship, training of school librarians in e-library, training of teachers in Computer Based Test, online training of 80 English teachers by British council, training of 96 members of School Based Management Committee and many more others”.

NAF writes Wike, seeks relocation of illegal structures, shanties around Bill Clinton Air Force base

The Nigerian Air Force authorities have written to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, asking him to remove any illegal structures located near the Bill Clinton Air Force Base, claiming that the structures pose a security risk to the military facility.

The Nigerian Air Force added that it is against federal government property laws to build the structures without the necessary agencies’ consent.

The letter to the FCT minister titled, “Request for Relocation of Illegal Structures at Nigerian Air Force Land, Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja” was signed by Air Commodore JU Usman, the Commander NAF Camp, Abuja, on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff.

The letter read: “The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) land located at Nuwalege Village, Bill Clinton Drive Abuja has overtime been trespassed.

“This incursion is in violation of property regulations and also poses serious security concerns as it were.

“There is therefore, the need to relocate these illegal structures and/or shanties to reduce the security risk posed by the structures including the inhabitants while adhering to land regulations.

“While awaiting a prompt and favourable disposition, Sir, accept the warmest regards of Chief of the Air Staff, Your Excellency.”

According to sources, the NAF attempted numerous methods before reaching this point to persuade the unlawful residents of the shanties and illegal buildings to leave, as their presence had begun to pose a security risk to military hardware and other facilities crucial to the country’s security.

Wike will be sanctioned for anti-party actions, says PDP chairman

The acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum has said that the party is ready to show the minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike that he is not above the party.

Responsing to questions during a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, December 19, Damagum made the statement, implying that Wike and other individuals engaging in anti-party actions will face consequences from the party leadership at the appropriate time.

This comes after several PDP stakeholders chastised Wike and others for allegedly engaging in anti-party actions during the recently completed general elections, and asked Damagum to take appropriate action.

The recent political unrest in PDP-controlled Rivers State has also been attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

He said: “Our stand about Wike, I have always said this thing that as long as you are a member of the PDP, there is a time for everything. My duty is to stabilise this party and not to cause crisis. And I will continue to do that within the confines of reason.

“When things go out of hand, we will act. But meanwhile, we still see it within the ambit of the law. Mind you, we have other litigation going on in this party and we won’t want to plunge our party into another crisis.

“And let me tell you something, it’s not only Wike, there are other people who worked against this party. When we get to that level we will sanction everybody. If Wike believes he is above this party, we will be able to show him that he is not above this party.”

Wike has never denied being a member of the PDP, according to Damagum, who added that the committee for the party’s 2023 review, which has not yet been constituted, would submit a report and suggest suitable penalties for individuals who engage in anti-party actions.

“They are to review what happened in 2023 and come out with a report not only about one person, but every person who has in one way or another engaged in anti-party. Then after that, we will see what kind of measure to take”, he added.

Wike orders removal of Abuja community for presidential fleet

The Director of the Department of Development Control has been directed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to ensure that the Nuwalege community along Airport Road makes way for the presidential fleet.

This was following the request from the Nigerian Air Force.

Speaking through the director, Mukhtar Galadima during a community and citizen engagement on Tuesday in Abuja, the minister hinted that it becomes imperative that the community give way for the runway.

He said: “About a month ago, the authority of the Nigerian Air Force wrote to the honourable minister on their needs and desire to remove this village because it is part of the presidential fleet plots.

“So, the minister in his wisdom requested them to allow the FCT administration to handle it, because it’s the responsibility of the FCT administration. The Nigerian Air Force approached the Department of Development Control on their desire.

“So, as part of our responsibility, we have to do what you call a community and citizens engagement which is why we are here today to discuss with the community and to tell them of our intention, because it will be unfair to just bring the machine here and start removing their houses.

“So, we visited the chiefs at his palace to meet him and we told him our reason for coming to this place today.”

Speaking on the number of houses that will be demolished, Galadima hinted that about 150 to 200 houses with additional commercial stores that are attached to these houses will be removed.

While answering questions from reporters on the issue of compensating the affected natives, he said: “We will discuss with the Air Force, because obviously discussion behind the scenes indicates that some forms of compensation were paid, but we have to be certain that this compensation actually was paid, and also who was really given this compensation.

“We are going to conduct further investigation between FCT administration, that’s the Department of Resettlement and Compensation, as well as the Nigerian Air Force and find out if compensation has been paid, to whom and When.

“And then we will discuss with our colleague at the Department of Resettlement and Compensation whether, at any point in time, there was any compensation that ascertained their claims as regards the number of structures and people that are going to be affected by this expansion project.”

He further said: “There are certain things that we have to look into with consideration like the security because obviously, this part of some of these settlements is where you have some of these people of the underworld trying to disguise and hide.

“And looking at this, Air Force formation, which is the presidential fleet, is too close, for this thing to co-habit. So we will see if there is an urgent desire to remove part of this community, and we will do it.

“So, we have to do some community engagement. It is not the entire community because we have gone around and we have seen the areas affected by the presidential fleet plot and the areas that are outside that plot.”

Speaking of the expectations of the village chief, Galadima noted: “At least we have given him the respect as a high-class person. We have discussed and informed him why we are here and we are coming back again for a wider consultation, involving the Nigerian Air Force, our colleagues, and then the community heads. So I think we have done the needful by engaging them adequately.”

    • Four Assembly members write commission, seek conduct of rerun

Loyalists of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike have descended heavily on a member of the House of Representatives from Rivers State, Boma Goodhead, for making what they called wild allegations against the minister.

Goodhead and her colleague, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, led a peaceful march in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, while showing support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, their kinsman.

Abiante represents Andoni/Opobo/Nkuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, where the governor hails from, while Goodhead represents Asari-Toru/Akuku-Toru Federal Constituency, another Ijaw-speaking area of the state.

While Abiante sued for peace, Goodhead frontally attacked Wike and dared him to enter Port Harcourt.

The lawmaker asked the Federal Government to call Wike to order.

But Wike’s loyalists decried the attack on their principal, who they said singlehandedly worked for Goodhead’s election victory.

Leading Wike’s loyalists, a former Chief of Staff to the minister, Emeka Woke, said: “Let me warn that those who live in a glass house should not throw stones. I remember one lady, the last time I remembered her was when she came crying and weeping; even swearing with her father and mother that she would never betray Wike.

“But because she has been given a contract to renovate Rivers Government House in Asokoro, Abuja, she could now come and say: ‘I dare Wike to come to Port Harcourt’.

“Let me remind her that Wike had been in Port Harcourt since Friday. He was even at Eleme on Saturday and retuned to Rumuepirikon. If she knows she is a woman, let her dare Wike, and she will see fire.”

Also, a Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Rivers State House of Assembly from declaring vacant the seats of the 27 members of the Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule.

In a ruling last Friday, Justice Donatus Okoro also restrained INEC from conducting fresh elections to fill the seats of the 27 lawmakers who, last week, announced, in the legislative chamber, their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ruling was on an ex parte application filed by the 27 lawmakers, led by Amaewhule.

Justice Okorowo gave the ruling after listening to lawyer to the lawmakers, Peter Onoh, who moved the ex parte application.

Listed as defendants in the suit are: INEC, the PDP, Rivers State House of Assembly, Clerk of the House, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the Department of State Services (DSS).

Also, the leader of the faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara has written INEC to conduct fresh election to fill the seats of the 27 pro-Wike legislators.

In a December 14 letter to INEC Chairman, Speaker Edision Ehie said the request for a fresh election was based on the Assembly’s resolution on December 13 declaring the seats of the 27 lawmakers vacant.

Ehie accompanied the letter with a copy of the resolutions of his faction of the Assembly, listing the name of the other faction’s members and their constituencies.

Rivers crisis: loyalists blast Rep member for attacking Wike

Loyalists of the minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nyesom Wike, have descended heavily on a member of the House of Representatives from Rivers, Boma Goodhead, who attacked Wike at the weekend and made wild allegations against the former governor.

Goodhead and her colleague, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, led a peaceful march on the streets of Port Harcourt to support the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who is their kinsman.

Abiante represents Fubara’s Andoni/Opobo/Nkuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives while Goodhead represents Asari-Toru/Akuku-Toru Federal Constituency, another Ijaw-speaking area of the state.

While Abiante sued for peace, Goodhead frontally attacked Wike and dared him to enter Port Harcourt just as she asked the Federal Government to call the Minister to order.

But Wike’s loyalists fumed over the attack on their principal, who singlehandedly ensured the election of Goodhead in the past poll.

Leading the voices of Wike’s loyalists, a former Chief of Staff to the Minister, Emeka Woke, told Goodhead that Wike had been in Port Harcourt since Friday and dared her to actualise her threat.

Woke, who advised that persons in a glass house should stop throwing stones, recalled how Goodhead begged Wike for her current position promising that she would not betray the Minister.

He said: “Let me warn that those who live in a glass house should not throw stones. I remember one lady, the last time I remembered her was when she came crying and weeping even swearing with his father and mother that she would never betray Wike.

“But because she had been given a contract to renovate Rivers Government House in Asikoro, she could now come and say, ‘I dare Wike to come to Port Harcourt’. Let me remind her that Wike had been in Port Harcourt since Friday.

“He was even at Eleme on Saturday and retuned to Rumuepirikon. If she knows she is a woman, let her dare Wike and she will see fire”.

Woke, who recently resigned his appointment as Commissioner on Special Duties in Fubara’s cabinet said persons fanning the ambers of ethnic war should remember that no tribe had the monopoly of violence.

He said: “Those who are fanning the ambers of ethnic war, I want to tell them that there is no particular ethnic group that has the monopoly of violence. Everybody should take it easy. Nobody is fighting anybody.

“They told us it is father and son’s fight. Whe it leaves the realm of father and son, they will see people. There is nobody that does not have the capacity to mobilise thousands of people to occupy Port Harcourt. But who is going to lose?”

But Rivers elders led by a former Governor, Rufus Ada George, held an emergency meeting over the crisis rocking the state, lamented that the two gladiators in the crisis were frustrating their efforts to resolve the impasse.

In a communique they issued after the meeting, the elders said: “The Forum regretted that neither Governor Siminialayi Fubara nor Chief Nyesom Wike responded to our letters seeking audience with each of them.

“The attempt to impeach the governor of Rivers State barely about six months in office without explaining to the good people of the State, the reasons and infractions of law is unacceptable.

“The Forum condemn every form of violence and lawlessness in Rivers State and therefore demand proper investigation of the crisis and those responsible be brought to Justice.

“The Forum reviewed the demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly by the Rivers State Government and urged the Government to expedite action on rebuilding the demolished House of Assembly Complex so that law makers will continue their legislative business in the permanent site within the shortest possible time.

“The Forum condemn in its entirety, the misuse of Rivers people political power vested in politicians by the people for personal gains and interest. Hence, we condemn in its entirety, the recent defection of twenty seven law makers without recourse to their constituents”.

Those, who signed the communique are O.P. Fingesi, Anabs Sara-Igbe, Prof. Dagogo Fubara, Ede Obolo, Captain Nwankwo, Eze Tony, Ankio Briggs, High Chief Marcus Atata, Senator Andrew Uchendu, Prof. Wilson Ake.among others.

The state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it would soon issue a statement on its official position on the crisis.

The state Publicity Secretary, Tambari Sydney Gbara disassociated the party from any statement issued outside the office of the Publicity Secretary.

Tambari said: “The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP Rivers State has been keenly following up on recent events in our polity in the State and will come up with an official statement to address these issues soon in the interest of our Party, in other to avoid conflicting information to our teeming supporters.

“It is important to note that only the office of the State Publicity secretary has the sole responsibility to do so.

However, it is the right of any individual to take his or her position on any issue, but such a position should not be misconstrued as the official statement from the Peoples Democratic Party Rivers State Chapter.

“We, therefore warn that anybody who is doing so should desist forthwith, while we call on our supporters to remain firm in their resolve to stand with the Party at this trying time, we will surely come out of this impasse stronger.”

Wike commences clampdown on illegal motor parks in Abuja

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike‘s joint taskforce team on illegal motor parks on Monday, December 18, arrested 19 commercial vehicles and one commercial motorcycle at Banex Plaza in Abuja.

The development is to curb the challenges of one chance, kidnapping, traffic congestion, and getting rid of criminal elements.

The affected vehicles, our correspondent reports were illegally picking up and dropping off passengers at the road corridor, therefore obstructing the free flow of traffic.

The FCT minister taskforce team comprises of Nigerian Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, FCT VIO.

Deborah Osho, Head of Operations in FCT VIO, while answering questions from reporters decried the traffic congestion on the road caused by illegal commercial taxi drivers.

She said: “This is the taskforce team that was constituted by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. What you are seeing now is clearing the road corridor on the popular Banex road, Wuse II that has been taken over by illegal commercial taxis.

“The illegal commercial taxis took over 50% of the road corridor picking and dropping passengers, meanwhile there is an approved park where they can pick and drop their passengers but they don’t use it, most of them prefer to use the road corridor, therefore, blocking the free flow of traffic on Banex road. About 19 vehicles were arrested along Banex road and one commercial motorcycle.”

On sustaining the exercise, she said: “This exercise is continuous, once we enforce, we clear and then we pin down. And the pin-down is continuous.

“This will curb the challenges of one chance and will also address the issue of illegal commercial taxis, this will also clean the city and make Abuja safe, especially during this yuletide period.”

Also, the secretary of Command and Control, Peter Olumiji, said the exercise will help to get rid of one chance manace in Abuja.

He said: “This joint exercise that we commenced today has two faces, number 1 to clear Illegal Park of criminal elements that run these one-chance taxis, and to also clear the parks of sales and trafficking of illegal drugs, they use the opportunity of illegal parks to transact their businesses. One chance is done at illegal parks and they use unpainted vehicles.”

Wike to Fubara: don’t pull down ladder you used in climbing

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has told his estranged political godson to resist the temptation of pulling down the ladder he used in getting to his position.

Wike said: “Don’t pull the ladder that you use in climbing. When you are coming down, the ladder may not be there. And leave the ladder too so that other people can also climb the ladder.”

The former governor reportedly spoke at his residence in Port Harcourt, the state capital while addressing the traditional ruler of Ogbaland, who came to felicitate with him on the occasion of his birthday.

The chiefs and other members of the traditional institution from Ogbaland in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state were led by their traditional ruler, Nwachukwu Nnam.

Wike assured the monarch that he would listen, insisting that he was disposed to peaceful resolution of the crisis.

The minister debunked claims that the political impasse was an ethnic war, insisting that it had no tribal colouration.

He said: “We didn’t vote based on ethnicity…but for the unity of Rivers. We shall never be part of violence but will always support peace.

“There are rules within the political group you emerge. You cannot say that because an Oba has emerged and then an Oba will not follow the rules of the traditional institution.

“No; an Oba will always obey the rules. So also in politics, there are things you must not do and there are things you must do.”

  • Why Wike must live with consequences of supporting Fubura, by Lukman

Why Wike must live with consequences of supporting Fubura, by Lukman

A former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Moh. Lukman has advised the minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike to back down and live with consequences of supporting Siminalayi Fubara as Rivers state governor in the interest of the people of the state.

He also called on the ruling APC to take responsibility by not indulging the minister any further.

Lukman spoke in Abuja on Sunday, December 17, with newsmen ahead of the public presentation of his book “APC and Transition Politics” billed for Tuesday in Abuja.

The former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the governing party said all lovers of democracy should appeal to the minister, lamenting that the state is no longer talking about governance but individual interest.

He said: “We must appeal to Wike if for whatever reason he makes the choice he made to support Siminalayi Fubara as the Governor, he must take responsibility and live with the consequences and find a way to swallow the bitter pills. Because we are not talking about governance now.

“The more he mismanaged his relationship with Fubara, those that will be receiving the short end of the stick are the people of Rivers State. This is not going to happen at the expense of governance. You can see based on the street fight you can see an “arrangement” has been made, Fubara presented a budget in less than 24 hours the Assembly passed it. This is not democracy anymore.

“Leadership is about taking full responsibility, sometimes denying yourself. Is like as a father not every day I sit down here and watch things happening and say I am happy. Sometimes, I have to just swallow things so that other people in the family remain happy even when I am not happy myself. That is what I expect from Fubara and Wike and even from our party so that the people of Rivers State will be happy. Sadly, this is happening at the beginning of a tenure.

“If this democracy is to move this country forward, we need leaders who will make the needed sacrifices so that citizens can be happy. Not to go on street fighting simply because you disagree with yourselves.”

When asked to explain further on his call on the ruling party not to indulge the minister, the former Director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) said the party’s decision to dissolve all the structures of the party in the state, was a move to pave way for Wike to have undue advantage.

He said: “I think we should take responsibility in some ways because perhaps if as leaders of the party, we didn’t indulge Wike the way we did, he would have managed his relationship back in Rivers with the governor and other political leaders better

“You are witnesses, I am sure when the Caretaker Committee came to pay the courtesy visit to the national chairman and shortly after that the national vice chairman South-south led APC leaders from that state to visit Wike and after that without any local problem in Rivers state the National Working Committee sat down and dissolved all structures of APC to open the door for Wike to come into the party. So, I mean you just give him license to say you are welcome whatever you do we accept it. That is what I mean by indulgence and I don’t think we should reduce politics further.”
