    Wikki spank Ikorodu Utd 3-0

    Wikki Tourists yesterday moved into second place on the Nigeria league table after a 3-0 spanking of bottom team Ikorodu United in Bauchi.

    Wikki now have 31 points, same as Rivers United, but enjoy a superior goals difference.

    They are just a point behind leaders Rangers, pending the final determination of the expulsion of Giwa FC from the league.

    The leading scorer in the league, Godwin Obaje did not score for Wikki on Sunday, but Saidu Abdullahi got a brace with Hamza Tiya also on target for the home team.

    There were also home wins for Warri Wolves and Lobi Stars.

    Rivers United have completed a straight treble with victory over Wikki Tourists in the NPFL match day 16 encounter at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt and team handler Stanley Eguma says the team is now set to begin the chase for the NPFL season title.

    In a highly technical match up with Wikki keeping possession with mid field crowding, most of the time, Gabriel Olalekan latched on Benard Ovoke’s assist to shoot home the decider in the 26th minute.

    Both teams went into their technical best, consistently denying each other any further clear chance for the remaining part of the first half and all through the second part to close the game at 1-0 in favour of the home team.

    Coach Stanley Eguma says the victories are no fluke adding that: “We have been working hard after a hard start and we are now achieving some obvious consistency. With this kind of performance we can be sure to set out to fight for the league title.

    “I commend my players and I give the glory to God. It was a hard earned victory. Wikki has proven that they are one if the best in the league. They gave us a run for our money. I must thank the boys for their hard work. It is not easy playing almost every 48 hours.”

    CAF Champions League: Enyimba target Wikki’s, El Kanemi’s strikers

    Nigeria champions Enyimba have penciled down Wikki Tourists striker Godwin Obaje and Ibrahim Mustapha of El Kanemi to complete their squad for the CAF Champions League.

    AfricanFootball.com specially learnt that Enyimba still have two spots open for this year’s Champions League and they have already identified Obaje and Ibrahim to complete particularly as striker Christian Obiozor is still to recover from a long-term knee injury.

    “Obaje and Ibrahim (Mustapha) are the two top targets as Enyimba aim to win a third Champions League this year,” a top official informed AfricanFootball.com.

    Kaduna-born Obaje shot to prominence last season after his goals helped Wikki push for the league title. He will subsequently join Slovak champions AS Trencin, before the deal fell through.

    The big striker has scored six goals this season, while Ibrahim has seven goals.

    Two-time African champions Enyimba scraped past Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia on penalties to qualify for the money-spinning group phase of the Champions League.

    The draw for this stage of the competition will be staged on May 24 in Cairo, Egypt.

    Abia Warriors move to second spot

    Wikki Tourists bashed FC IfeanyiUbah 3-0 as Abia Warriors defeated MFM FC 3-1 to move to second spot on the Nigeria Professional Football League table yesterday.

    Abubakar Lawal smashed a brace with Godwin Obaje also getting a goal for Wikki to stop title chasers IfeanyiUbah.

    In Umuahia, Abia Warriors shot to second place after they saw off MFM FC 3-1.

    Uche Ihuarula got Abia Warriors off to a flying start after just three minutes.

    ‘Little Messi’ Stanley Okoro made it 2-0 for the home team on 65 minutes, before Ndifreke Effiong converted a penalty in the 74th minute.

    However, MFM pulled a goal back through Kenedium Chuks in added time.

    Wikki Tourists have penned a deal with Samuel Agba, which will see him with the club until the end of the 2015/16 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

    The former Kaduna United and Bayelsa United striker was linked with a number of clubs in the top flight division but he had subsequently joined the Bauchi based side.

    The player who last defended the colours of Enugu Rangers joins a number of players that have recently moved to Bauchi.

    A top official of Wikki Tourists confirmed to futbalgalore.com that the pointman has been signed to boost the team’s attacking options for the  2015/16 campaign.

    Wikki Tourists of Bauchi will have one week pre-season training camping in Kaduna, SportingLife has been informed.

    The club’s secretary Hammed Tijjani Suleiman said players and officials will arrive in Kaduna on Sunday.

    Suleman added that all the players will be involving in the camping including the reserve players.

    “Everything is going on smoothly as planned. We are going there with full team including the reserve team. We want to use the programme to test everybody. So everybody will be giving chance to proof themselves,” Suleiman told SportingLife.

    Wikki commiserate with Nasarawa over Baba Idris death

    The management of Wikki Tourists of Bauchi has sympathized with the management, players and supporters of Nasarawa United Football club of Lafia over the untimely death of their captain, Baba Idris.

    Idris died after a brief illness at a hospital in Lafia on Sunday night.

    The club’s secretary and overseer of the club, Hammed Tijjani Suleiman described his death as shocking considering his age.

    Suleiman described late Idris as a committed and dedicated player whose.

    He prayed to God Almighty to give his family and the management of Nasarawa United fortitude to bear the loss.

    “I was so shocked to hear the death of the Baba Idris. He was a young player with full of charismatic leadership,” Suleiman said in a statement.

    “On behalf of the management of Wikki Tourists I hereby condoles with the family of late Baba Idris, Nasarawa United and the entire football industry over the touching story.

    “May almighty Allah to forgive all his sins and grant him the highest in jannatul firdaus. I also pray to Allah to give his family the heart to bear the loss.”

    Wikki Tourist will raid Giwa FC and El Kanemi Warriors as they prepare for the forthcoming NPFL season, Coach Abdul Maikaba has stated.

    Speaking to footballlive.ng on his plans for the new season, Maikaba said the consistency of Giwa FC in successive seasons; since their promotion to the top flight, will complement the quality in his team.

    “We have our sights on getting players from Giwa FC and maybe El Kanemi Warriors because these teams have shown some consistency in the League in the last two seasons,” he said.

    “We have a good group in Wikki and with reinforcements from a solid team like Giwa, we can give the top teams a good run for their money next season.”

    Wikki Tourists ambition to play international football next year suffered a setback when they lost 1-0 at regional rivals El Kanemi on Sunday.

    Wikki are now fourth on the league table with 60 points from 37 games, while El Kanemi now have 49 points.

    The Bauchi club must win their last game of the season at home to Pillars and hope Giwa lose at Nasarawa United to stand any chance of featuring in the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup.

    Former Taraba striker Chinedu Ohanachom scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute, when he finished off Ifeanyi Matthew’s pass.

    Before then, Ohanachom had lost a chance to score in the 10th minute after he created space for himself, but he shot wide off target.

    Wikki Tourists will welcome the return of Peter Ambrose and Johnson Madu but would be without Omana Festus who is injured ahead of their Sunday’s Glo Premier League Week 30 cracker against Bayelsa United in Bauchi.

    The Bauchi side are third on the league table with 48 points from 29 matches and will move a step closer to their objective of ending the season with a continental ticket if they beat the Restoration Boys on Sunday in Bauchi.

    The Media Manager of the club, Usman Shehu told SportingLife that the players and officials of the Bauchi side have been camped at the popular Zaranda Hotel in Bauchi ahead of the match and everyone is ready for the visit of Bayelsa United.

    He said besides Omana who has been ruled out to an ankle injury they will be welcoming back Ambrose and Johnson who were missing from their last away game in Makurdi against Lobi Stars because of card suspensions.

    “We are eager to nick a continental ticket and we are doing everything possible to achieve that. We won’t negotiate anything but the three points against Bayelsa United on Sunday. We have Omana Festus absent from the match but we will have Peter Ambrose and Johnson Madu available for the tie,” Shehu told SportingLife.
