    Section 134 of the Constitution prescribes how a winner in a presidential election will emerge.

    It states: “A candidate for an election to the office of president shall be deemed to have been duly elected, where there being only two candidates for the election:

    a.    He has the majority of votes cast at the election and

    b.    He has not less than one quarter of the votes cast at the election in each of at least two-thirds (24 states) of all the states in the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.”

    It was a dream come true for the family of Mr. Yinka and Mrs. Funmi Davies recently when the management of multinational, PZ, presented the prize of the Cussons Baby Moments to they and their daughter, Morireoluwa.

    At a presentation ceremony held at PZ’s office in Ilupeju, officials of the company stressed the need to actualise plans that can bring about the best in children.

    According to Cussons’ Brand Manager, Ayeni Oluwaseun, the competition gives parents the opportunity to showcase amazing things their babies are made of.

    “It made parents take amazing pictures of their babies. Children do interesting things when where are there and when we are not.”

    Ayeni added that the prize entailed supply of Cussons products to the family and an all-expense-paid trip abroad.

    Besides, Morireoluwa will be the face of the products in the next one year.

    Mr. Davies thanked PZ for giving the family the opportunity. He recalled that he and his wife registered for the competition last December, when they bought the products at the Ikeja Shopping Mall in Lagos.

    Also commending PZ, Morireoluwa’s mother said: “Whatever our daughter becomes in life, she will always remember that when she was a year old, she won this award. This is a great platform to start from.”

    On the impact of the competition on the brand, Ayeni said it had improved on people’s awareness about Cussons as many want to associate with caring for children.

    Azeez Shobowale has said he is delighted to be the match winner for Kano Pillars in a 3-2 win over Crown FC during the Week 31 league game.

    The former 3SC forward told AfricanFootball.com that he was so happy that his goal gave champions Pillars the victory that keeps them on top of the league table with seven rounds of matches to be played.

    “I am happy with my goal, it was the match winner for us and that is why I am so excited about it. It won the game for us and puts us on top of the table,” Shobowale told AfricanFootball.com.

    He was also the man of the match when Pillars beat Lobi Stars 3-1. He has scored three goals this season.

    It was an exciting weekend for 18-year-old aspiring actress, Bola Suru, who emerged winner of Act The Part, an online acting competition overseen by star actress, Genevieve Nnaji.

    Suru, a university admission-seeker, beat two other finalists, Michael Akan and Chioma Okoye, to the prize of an exquisite makeover and VIP dinner with Nnaji, courtesy of Amstel Malta.

    The competition, Act The Part, is an activation for the Amstel Malta brand, which the actress has been contracted to promote.

    The deal had required fans to act any role from a selected movie of their choice in just two minutes and upload to the brand’s website.

    Staying true to her promise, Nnaji, last Saturday, treated Suru to a superb dinner at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    The Amstel Malta ambassador, who was clad in a mustard-colour dress by Halston and Heritage, shared fun memories with the aspiring actress and talked about her thriving real estate business.

    Suru, who could not contain her joy, said:

    “I’ve never felt like this in all the 18 years of my life. This is practically the best day of my life and I can’t thank Amstel Malta enough for this”, she said joyously.

    Apparently overwhelmed by her mentorship role, Genevieve too expressed excitement for the initiative. “I’m very glad and thankful to Amstel Malta to have given me this opportunity to meet this amazing young woman. She’s certainly a bundle of talent and I’m willing to support her acting career in every way I can,” she said.

    The winner also had a full body makeover, courtesy of Amstel Malta, before spending the evening with the star, after which she took home several cartons of Amstel Malta can drinks.

    Joyous ecstasy best described the mood at the Sports Complex of the University of Lagos, last Wednesday, as Guaranty Trust Bank plc’s loyalty reward promo for holders of its trendy, card-based interest bearing undergraduate account called GTcrea8 e-savers saw a winner, a young undergraded from UNILAG, carted home the coveted prize of a mini cooper car.

    The venue of the grand finale had a packed audience comprising students and other guests, were treated to a potpourri of comedy, dance and music, among others.

    As to be expected, the show was laced with several musical presentations by several upcoming artistes and capped with a performance by wave-making Wizkid.

    The highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of the keys to the winner, Miss Shallom Wigwe-Elisha by the Group Managing Director, GTBank, Mr. Segun Agbaje in company of Odesina and other staff.

    Muhammed Isa, was also part of the winning spree, earning N1million in scholarship just as there were consolation prizes for many others.

    The promo, which commenced in March, 2013, has rewarded account holders with gifts such as Blackberry Phones, Ipods, laptops, Samsung Galaxy tab, LED TV and mini fridges in its monthly zonal draws. The Bank also organised events on campuses across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria where students had the opportunity of winning prizes over the period of the campaign.

    To qualify for this promo, students in tertiary institutions were required to open a GTCrea8 e-savers account. In addition, they were also required to conduct a minimum of three transactions per month on alternate banking channels such as ATMs , POS and internet Banking and also maintain a minimum account balance of 5,000.00 for six consecutive months.

    Commenting on the campaign, Head of Guaranty Trust Bank’s Communication & External Affairs division, Lola Odesina stated that the bank designed the product to suit the online lifestyle of Nigerian post- secondary students.

  • Winner emerges in Law Pavilion raffle draw

    Richard Chukwuocha of Bello-Osagie, a Lagos law firm, has won this year’s Law Pavillion raffle draw.

    The raffle held during Nigerian night and dinner organised by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in collaboration with the Nigerian Embassy in the United States for lawyers at this year’s International Bar Association (IBA) conference at Sheraton Hotel, Needham, Boston Massachusetts.

    The draw, which was transparent and so acclaimed by all present, started with lawyers dropping their call or complimentary cards in a box. The Chief Operating Officer of Law Pavillion, Mr Ope Olugasa, brought in the box and a Law Pavillion bag. He handed the box and the bag to NBA President, Okey Wali (SAN) who turned it up side down for everybody present to see that there was nothing in it.

    The cards were poured into the bag and the Nigerian Deputy High Commissioner to the United States, Ambassador B. E. Achibong, was called to dip his hand into the bag and pick a card, he did this and picked Mr Chukwuocha’s card. He was announced winner. He received a customised Law Pavillion IPod.

    Presenting the price, Wali commended Law Pavilloin for developing innovative research tools for lawyers and judges. It has been described as the best modern source of legal authorities and the most useful law companion for all.

    Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) praised the NBA and the Ambassador for organising the event. He called on Nigerians to be a little more strategic in our roles in IBA.

    He said: “Year in, year out, we have contributed the association without ever having the opportunity to host it.”

    Fashola called on Nigerians who work in IBA committees to network with the authorities to facilitate Nigeria’s chances of hosting the conference. He said Lagos had expressed the desire to host IBA conference but now, Lagos will also be willing to support or collaborate with any other state that wins the bid and is ready to host the conference.

    He urged those who understand the mechanisms of the system to dialogue with the IBA leadership and let us know the cost of hosting the conference.

    Nigeria winger Babatunde Michael was Volyn hero again as he scored the only goal that gave them victory over Illichivets on Friday.

    Babatunde struck in the 13th minute and the goal was enough to earn his side all three points as the game ended 1-0. Volyn are 10th on the table with 12 points from 10 games. This is his second goal in four matches for his new team Volyn in the Ukrainian top flight.

    “I feel good that my goals are coming, this will put me on my toes and make me to work harder to scoring more goals in the subsequent games. I feel happy here every week because I am having the chance to play and showcase my talent,” Michael told MTNFootball.com.

    “I think my first two games have really helped me to settle well in the team, and I wish to continue giving my best to the coach who has so much faith in me.”

    He was substituted in the added minute of Friday’s game by Cameroon player Eric Matoukou.

    Miss Homa Amadi-Nna (Trans-Amadi Branch), Port Harcourt, the star winner in the Sterling Bank’s just concluded Savers’ Promo, drove home last Friday a brand new SUV.

    Speaking after taking possession of the car, she said the bank has “by this gesture, delivered on its promises to its customers.”

Four customers won N500, 000 each while four other won N1 million. Also, 84 others customers won home theatres and refrigerators as consolation prizes in the promo that started in May last year.

    Chief Finance Officer of the bank, Abubakar Suleiman, said Sterling Bank is taking a long-term view of its customers, to ensure that they get the best out of every single transaction. He said the bank will continue to take steps that guarantee its service to its customers.

    Suleiman said that the promo presents an opportunity for prospective customers to come and subscribe to the bank’s services by opening new accounts. He said that those customers that have been with the lender will always be remembered through quality services and tangible benefits such as the cash and gifts.

    Group Head, Bancassurance, John Akingbade, said the promo has enhanced Sterling Bank’s balance sheet and substantially raised awareness on the need to bring the unbanked into the financial system.

    He said some of the winners that won cash were able to use the funds to boost their financial flow, while others used the money to start new businesses.

    Representative of Consumer Protection Council,Mrs Ngozika Obidike, expressed delight over the conduct of the promo. She said the council had been following the promo from the registration point to the last draw to ensure that the highest standard is maintained. She applauded the bank for ensuring that the legality, conduct of the promo and its objective were adhered to.

    Head, Regulation and Monitoring, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Jude Ogaga, said the body wants banks’ customers to have faith in savings promo. He said the promo was well regulated and transparent.

    Meanwhile, the lender has opened a branch at its Adeola Odeku, Victoria Island Lagos. The bank’s Regional Channel Co-ordinator, Mena Sidahome, said the lender would build 40 of similar branches in line with its improved service quality and commitment to surpassing customers’ expectations.

    Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi says he will keep faith in God for Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations final against Burkina Faso at the National Stadium, Johannesburg.

    The Super Eagles defeated Eagles of Mali 4-1 in the semi finals match on Wednesday to reach the final and meet the Burkinabe who qualify for their first African Cup of nations final after upsetting the more fancied Black Stars of Ghana in the second semi final game on Wednesday evening.

    The former Mali and Togo coach, who admitted that there is still more to do in the team, added that the team will do all it takes to win the trophy and make Nigerians happy.

    “I am not God and I can’t say that this is what will happen on Sunday. The boys have tried their best to reach this stage and I think whatever comes out of the final, we should take it,” Keshi said.

    The former Togo coach also noted that the players have improved tactically.

    “The players were disciplined on the pitch and their tactical play has been encouraging. I just want them to have fun because it is important. Any job you’re doing and you’re not having fun, you are not going to have 100% results.”

    On the team’s success in the ongoing campaign, Keshi said: “I don’t know how big it is for me as a coach. My aim is to make Nigerians happy, which has been my challenge.”
