    Housemates took their turns in dancing to songs from their favourite artistes in front of the mirror.

    Ifu continued to thrill the house in an impressive display of twerking, accompanied by BamBam, as Teddy A continued to sing in the background.

     The fever caught up on the housemates soon enough as Monday night seemingly became a weekend night after party session with Biggie churning hits after hits.

    Austen-Peters, Wizkid, Davido make 50 most influential Nigerians’ list

    With three professionals from the arts and culture sector on the list of 50 Nigerians whose activities in 2017 had influenced on the country, the creative industry, again, stresses its relevance in building a strong nation.

    Among such influencers listed are top moguls like Aliko Dangote, a well-known industrialist and Africa’s richest businessman. Also on top of the list is President Muhammadu Buhari leading other politicians such as Nyesom Wike, Bukola Saraki, Ayodele Fayose and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, among other political giants who had influence on the year in review.

    At 44, 45 and 45 in that order are Wizkid, Davido and Bolanle Austen-Peters, listed. While Wizkid and Davido were described as fast “rising star” in the Nigerian music industry, Austen-Peters is applauded for being “a game changer” in the arts and culture.

    Austen-Peters is the founder and Chief Executive Officer, Bolanle Austen-Peters Productions. She runs the popular Terra Kulture, a cultural loving place for artistes and lovers of art.

    ‘Wizkid FC’ Nike Jersey sets twitter on fire’

    The Star Boy jersey, “Wizid FC” , an official jersey of Nigerian Musician Ayodeji Balogun a.k.a Wizkid, unveiled by International Sport wear Nike, has set twitter on fire.

    The Star Boy jersey, unveiled on Thursday by Nike, is part of Nike’s jersey shop campaign where stars can customise jerseys for their fans and friends.

    The deal makes Wizkid FC the first African Musician to have an official jersey.

    The move has been met with raving support from his fan base, most of whom view it as epic and legendary.

    Fans have already created a twitter handle for Wizkid Fan Club @wizkidfc, amongst several other accounts such as ‘WzkidFC Defender’, ‘WizkidFC Striker’, ‘Captain Wizkid FC’.

    Meanwhile, a photo of fans in Kano wearing jerseys with ‘Wizkid FC’ inscribed on them for a football match is circulating social media.

    @Abu tweeted: “Wizkid, are you signing any players to Wizkid FC? I make a hell of a defensive midfielder.”

    @kUNGPablo wrote: “I should be the captain of Wizkid FC. I know practically every Wiz track. Wizkid is my personal legend to die for. I can’t wait to cop mine.”

    Wizkid had earlier unveiled the new Super Eagles’ world cup jersey designed by Nike, alongside eagles’ player Alex Iwobi.

    Wizkid Fan Club (FC), coined by the singer himself in 2016, began to trend on social media after his collaboration with American rapper Drake on the Grammy nominated song ‘One Dance’.

    Wave-making Nigerian singers; Davido, Wizkid and Tiwa Savage have made the list of top 50 footballers and entertainers on the African Social Media Power Report, released on Friday, January 26, 2018.

    Senegalese rapper Akon and Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah are the two most followed Africans on the social media channels – Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

    The Power 50 that has a combined following of almost 400million, was compiled by Lagos-based sports communication company, CampsBay Media.

    “In a world where social media continues to play a big role, the influence of African entertainers and footballers, the crème of popular culture on our continent, continues to fascinate and that is why we have compiled this list,” said Lolade Adewuyi, chief strategist at CampsBay Media.

    “We have tried as much as possible to gather the top African pop and sport stars into the list in order to show their influence across the three key social media platforms of Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. We hope that the Power Report will be an annual ranking to gauge their growing impact as well as enable market planners and researchers to see the possibilities inherent in their influence.”

    Personalities from 12 countries are represented on the list with the top 10 places filled by Akon, Salah, footballer Didier Drogba, Moroccan stand-up comedian Gad el Maleh, South African comedian and TV show host Trevor Noah, Cameroonian footballer Samuel Eto’o, Moroccan actor Jamel Debbouze, Nigerian singer Davido and South African actress Charlize Theron.

    On the African Social Media Power Report: Top 50 are 13 actors/actresses, 14 singers, nine rappers, eight footballers, four comedians and two music producers/DJs.

    Days after holding a listening party in Lagos, dancehall artiste, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, gave a thrilling experience to a number of his fans in a release party at The Curtain Hotel, London.

    He treated his fans to performances from songs off the forthcoming album titled ‘Outside’, which came out on all digital platforms under Atlantic Records.

    The event which was hosted by Eddie Kadi of BBC 1Xtra was attended by celebrities like Wizkid, J Hus, Tiwa Savage, Mr. Eazi, and Mabel to name a few.

    J Hus and Mabel joined Burna Boy on stage to perform their feature tracks ‘Sekkle Down’ and ‘Outside’ to the excitement of the fans.

    Days before, the artiste treated selected guests, close friends and family to an exclusive first listening.

    The private listening party, which took place at WéRé House in Lekki, Lagos, was compered by Beat FM’s Douglas Jekan who led a cheerful Burna Boy through a series of questions about the album.

    The young artiste said every song on the album was inspired by something in his life, revealing ‘Where I’m from’ as his favourite and most personal song. He explained how a trip to Port Harcourt led to ‘City Vibration’ and recounted his experience with Drake that led to ‘More Life’, the album’s opener.

    Signed to Spaceship Entertainment, Burna Boy founded and led a band called ‘Def Code’ in his high school days at Corona Schools.

    At the sold-out “Wizkid the Concert” show at the Eko Hotel Convention centre, Lagos on Christmas eve, Wizkid, putting up arguably the best show of his career in Lagos in recent times took the ecstatic audience on a journey of ‘Wizkid classics’ digging deep into his rich repertoire to thrill the fans. From Love My Baby, Pakuromo, On Top of Your Matter, JaiyeJaiye, Ojuelegba to the current hit Manya, Wizkid held his fans spell bound.

    He was not alone as he was in the rich company of popular Nigerian artistes who he invited from time to time to share the stage with him. They included another Pepsi music ambassador, Tiwa Savage, as well as Wande Coal, Tuface, Olamide. But the roof of the Eko Hotel Convention Centre literarily came down the moment in invited Davido to the stage. This was understandable, considering the media reports of rift between them. They both performed Davido’s FIA to the admiration of their fans.

    Davido was to thread the same path of love and peace days later, at his”30 Billion Concert” when he invited his ‘new best friend’ Wizkid to the stage. It was also a rousing reception from their appreciative fans who see the new development as good for the growth of the music industry. Their fans took to the social media to congratulate the duo. The night of love and peace was complete when members of the defunct Mo’ Hits Records came together in superlative performance.

    It was a night of exemplary artistry and entertainment, witnessed by a mammoth audience as Davido headlined Africa’s biggest concert of 2017; ’30 Billion Concert’ – bringing out celebrated names in the entertainment industry including WizKid, Patoranking, Wande Coal, 2Face, Reminisce and several others on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at EKO Hotel Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    The thousands of fans in attendance witnessed Davido bring out several acts to perform for the night. And just right before bringing out WizKid, the DMW boss bellowed; ”Would you like to meet my new best friend?” to which everyone heartily yelled. Wizkid soon emerged from backstage and the two embraced.

    Both artistes are known to be harsh rivals in their musical careers, as the two top contenders in the Nigerian hip hop genre.

    Wizkid went on to perform one of his recent street jams ‘Manya’ alongside Davido, raising the ecstasy in the atmosphere several notches higher. WizKid soon gave Davido a hearty shout out before exiting the stage.

    Other notable artistes who contributed to the excitement of the night include South African rapper Nasty C, Mo’ Hits stars – Don Jazzy, Dbanj, Dr Sid, Kay Switch, Ikechukwu, Wande Coal, D Prince, CDQ, Terry G, Humble Smith, Dremo, Mayorkun, Dice Ailes, Reekado Banks, Daddy Showkey, Solidstar, and several more.

    Wizkid, Tuface, Tiwa Savage, and others to perform at Akwa Ibom Christmas Groove Wizkid, Tuface, Tiwa Savage will perform at the maiden edition of the Akwa Ibom Christmas groove tagged, “Ukap’isua,” scheduled to hold Dec. 26 and Dec. 27 in Uyo.

    Mr Victor Antai, state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, who made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Uyo, listed other acts to include Tekno, Phyno and many more.

    He said more than 100,000 fun seekers are also expected at the “Ukap’isua’’ groove which means the end of the year Christmas festival and would feature musical concerts, dance party and beach competitions.

    According to him, the star studded event will also include a parade of five bands along the carnival routes, University of Uyo mini stadium – Ikot Ekpene road – Aka road – UdoUdoma Avenue – Unity Park.

    He said that five bands have been named after tourist attractions and historical features in the state such as, Blue River Band, Rolling Hills Band, The Beach Town Band, The Bridge Band and The Plaza Band.

    He said, “the bands are named after tourist attractions and historical features in the state.’’

    “The bands will further expound on the significance of their respective tourism features in their costumes, presentation and parade, thereby helping to market the tourist potentials of the state.’’

    “Following our highly successful outing in `Orange September,’ a series of events organised to commemorate the 30th anniversary of our dear state.

    “The Ministry of Culture and Tourism under my supervision has decided to undertake another major event in our conscious and regular efforts to further stamp the state as a tourism destination.

    “As we all know, yuletide periods in the state have hitherto been bereft of hyped activities.

    “During this period we usually witness an outflow of human traffic into neighbouring states as indigenes and fun seekers leave the state in their numbers to other parts of the country in search of entertainment and recreation.

    “It is in an attempt to remedy this and spice up the yuletide experience for the citizens of Akwa Ibom State, while effectively marketing our huge tourist potentials that the Ministry has decided to host “Ukap’isua.”

    “We hope to create during this same period, a unique experience that will not only create recreation and entertainment, but also market our huge tourism potentials,’’ Antai said.

    He explained that “Ukap’isua would commence with the opening of the festival village, located at the auspicious Ibom Unity Park, Udoudoma Avenue, Uyo.

    Antai said that the festival village would host relaxation spots, shopping stalls and other recreational facilities.

    The commissioner expressed the commitment of the state government to focus on tourism as major source of revenue generation and jobs creation rather than depending solely on oil.

    Concerned about incessant harassment from operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) arm of the Nigeria Police, hip hop acts, Wizkid and Olamide, have added their voice to calling members of the special arm to order.

    Taking to Twitter on Monday, Wizkid who recently clinched the Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) award for ‘Best International Artiste’ spoke of the country’s responsibility to its youth.

    “#EndSarsBrutality Empower the youth , guide and protect the youth! Thats all we ask ????,” wrote Wizkid.

    Earlier on Sunday, ‘Wo’ crooner, Olamide, posted an image with the inscription; ‘#EndSarsBrutality plenty suffer man de face. Guide and protect the people not make life miserable for them due to the pressure that comes with your work or what you going through at home. A man with gun should be mentally balance and well oriented.’

    Olamide also posted, ‘#EndSarsBrutalityNigeria we can do better.’

    The Instagram post has garnered nearly 50, 000 likes.

    Many Nigerian youths have narrated stories of harassment meted out on them by SARS operatives and have shared such on social media.

    And a tweet credited to Assistant Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle, has also infuriated many Nigerians.

    “To all those having frightening dreams – “shot/beaten by police”. Pray to God not to allow it happen + avoid areas where police are responding to incidents in real lofe. If such dreams persist, GO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST.”

    However, the Nigeria Police has asked victims of SARS’ harassment to report it.

    Tweeting on Monday, it wrote, ‘Re: #EndSARS If u’ve contact with SARS personnel and u’ve any complaints about deir actions or inactions, u’re at liberty 2 report deir conducts 2 various platforms provided by d NPF to deal with unprofessional conduct of members of d Force rather dan call 4 end SARS. 08057000001.’

    President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated renowned hip-hop artistes, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, WizKid, and David Adedeji Adeleke, Davido, on their awards at the Music of Black Origin (MOBO).

    President Buhari joined the teeming fans of the artistes in Nigeria and all over the world in celebrating the highly deserved and meritorious recognition, which saw WizKid winning “International Best Artitse’’ award, while Davido picked the “Best African Act’’.

    The President, according to a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, affirmed that both singers have showcased the rich talents in the country and brought pride to the nation through their many songs and performances, commending their dedication, hard work and charity works.

    Meanwhile, the president has sent condolences to family and friends of the late Air Vice Marshal Olufunsho Martins (rtd) whose passing away left the nation deprived of a very illustrious citizen.

    President Buhari commiserated with all the professional, business and political associates of the valiant air officer who served meritoriously in the military and retired to continue serving the nation through advocacy, counselling and philanthropy.

    The president, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, urged Martins’ family to find comfort in the legacies of integrity, discipline and charity that he left behind and the many lives he touched while on earth.

    As a former ally, President Buhari commended the unalloyed patriotism of the late Air Vice Marshal who worked assiduously to ensure that only men of integrity got into leadership positions.
