Nobody can force Yilwatda to resign, northern youth tells agitators

No threat can force the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda out of office, the Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Forum (NNYLF) has warned.

The group, a conglomerate of leaders of various socio, political, and cultural youth groups of northern extraction, distanced itself from calls demanding the resignation of Yilwatda.

A pro-APC group – All Progressives Congress Youth Solidarity Network (APC-YSN) on Friday issued a two-week ultimatum to Yilwatda to step aside or face mass action.

A statement by the APC-YSN  National Coordinator, Comrade Danesi Momoh, in Abuja alleged that Yilwatda has “failed leadership tests in all parameters,” adding that the party’s popularity was shrinking daily under his watch — a claim they argued would affect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

But in a swift reaction, the National Coordinator of NNYLF, Mallam Murtala Mohammed Gamji, said the characters behind the resignation push have no moral and political standing to issue such a threat, insisting “nobody can force our national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda to resign.”

Faulting the Momoh-led APC-YSN, Gamji noted that aside from being an illegal APC affiliate, the Northern youth leader described the group as “a political hatchet team” planted by the opposition to destabilise the governing APC.

Challenging the leadership of APC- YSN Gamji said, “That individual calling on our National Chairman to resign is not even a member of APC. We schooled together in ABU Zaria. He is from Auchi and a PDP member. He has even been sanctioned in the PDP circle in Auchi, Edo State. Momoh is not a member of APC. He’s not a card  member of APC, and he has no stand in APC. We don’t know his link with our untouchable chairman”

He argued that since Yilwatda took charge as APC National Chairman, the Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering has repositioned and boosted stakeholders’ confidence in the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

Gamji stressed that Nentawe’s emergence had instead been attracting high-profile actors into the APC — not driving them away — and warned that no attempt to destabilise the current leadership would be tolerated ahead of the 2027 election.

On  the allegation that the APC National Chairman was blocking the Plateau Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, from defecting to the ruling party, Gamji said, “that can never be possible.”

According to him  “The National Chairman (Yilwatda) is a democrat and can not stop any governor from joining the APC. The governor himself admitted publicly that he is under pressure to join APC. Nobody is stopping him.

“You can see how Governors of Taraba, Enugu, and Bayelsa states and individuals are coming. A lot of senators, House of Representatives members, and other ordinary people are trooping into APC because of the kind of humble leadership of Prof.(Yilwatda). So we disagree with him. Nobody is stopping the Governor.”

The Forum also advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reject the call to investigate the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, describing the sponsors of such agitation as enemies of national stability.

Hold Govs, chairmen accountable on increased FAAC- Yilwatda

With the tripple-fold increase in monthly allocations to all tiers of government, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has asked Nigerians to hold their state governors and Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen accountable.

He stated that no Governor and the LGA chairmen get less than triple or four times of what they used to get as monthly allocations before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The Chairman spoke on Monday in Abuja at a book launch titled “Vicious Red Circle”, written by Amb. Alex Ugochukwu Oriaku.

He said: “No governor in Nigeria. Who knows that two years ago, there was a share of about N400 billion per month. But today, the last share they did was N2.2 trillion. No governor in Nigeria today collects less than three times, up to four times what they used to collect before. None.

“So they can do more for their people. No governor collects lower than three times. None. They are focusing now on bigger projects. And to me, this is a turnaround that we need in governors.

“I would say, talk to your governors. Talk to your Local Government Chairmen. Let them do more.”

While giving indices that the current administration was getting economic policies right, the APC Chairman said it is his dream that Nigeria move forward under his party.

“It’s my dream that I have a party that is driving Nigeria in the right direction. To give Nigeria not just optics alone, but a reality that Nigeria is better and open.

“We can turn around the corner. And as a political party, the APC, we like doing the unthinkable. We make changes that look unreasonable to the eye of people, but deep within, and seated in our hearts, are things that we can make changes that can improve the life of our people. That’s at the centre of our hearts. And that’s why we’re working as citizens with the economy, and everybody knows the numbers are changing.

“The World Bank, the IMF, said we can’t grow up to 3% GDP per annum. We are doing 4.23% now. It was predicted that by now, we can’t do more than 1 million barrels per day. We are doing 1.7, 1.8 million barrels per day. And I can keep giving the numbers. But these numbers must reflect on the people,” Yilwatda stated.

    • Ruling party strong enough to manage defectors’ expectations – Otu

The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, has revealed that more politicians from opposition parties are set to defect to the ruling APC in the days ahead.

Yilwatda made this known during a meeting Plateau APC stakeholders held at Crest Hotel, Jos yesterday.

The National Chairman of APC, while apologising for arriving for the meeting late, attributed his lateness to a meeting he held with all APC governors in Kebbi State the previous day to assess the state of the party.

Assuring members that the ruling party was in very healthy condition, he said “there is no viral or bacterial infection. We even took the party to the lab in Kebbi—it came out clean!”

The APC Chairman then revealed that the party would be receiving some new defectors from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) next week.

Yilwatda said: “Next week, I will be receiving some notable figures from the ADC.

“Some of those who had defected from PDP have reached out to ADC and are now returning to APC.

“Many of them have completed their ‘medicals’ and will be officially unveiled next week.

“In another two weeks, we will unveil yet another big figure who just finished his own ‘medicals.’

“He tried to unveil himself the day before yesterday—you probably saw it in the news. But officially, we’ll be receiving him soon.

“More people are coming. More senators are joining; more governors, more members of the National Assembly. The APC is the bride of the moment.”

Commending party members for the solidarity he enjoyed from them on the death and burial of his mother recently, he thanked them for standing firmly by him durin the trying period.

He said: “When I lost my dear mother, the entire APC family and Platin Alcohol stood firmly by me.

“You provided a shoulder to lean on and became a pillar of strength for me during one of the most difficult moments of my life.

“My tears were soothed because you were there to offer comfort and support.

“Thank you so much for all you did—from the very beginning of my loss, through the burial, and even after.

“May God bless and reward you richly.

“I must also extend my deepest gratitude for how you stood your ground when we faced the setback at the Supreme Court.

“Many people thought that was the end of APC on the Plateau; that we had been buried politically.

“But what they didn’t see was the seed that had already been sown.

“That seed germinated, and today, APC is stronger, more vibrant and growing bigger by the day.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome our new members.

Some, like “The Masquerade,” are actually among the founding fathers of APC—so this is more of a homecoming than a new beginning.

“You are welcome back home, along with the former treasurer and the former Chairman of Mikang Local Government—also founding fathers of our great party.

“At the state level, I want to welcome others who have returned or joined us from various parties—Labour Party, PRP (like Boni), and PDP (like the one fondly referred to as “The Big Priest from the Dew Shrine”).

“As presented by the leader, you are all welcome.

“The beauty of APC is that it is a party that welcomes people, regardless of when they join.

“You don’t need to have been in APC from the beginning to rise. I am a testimony to this fact—many others are as well.

“If you join APC today, you are a full member with full rights and privileges.

“That is the spirit and the letter of our party’s constitution.

“This is your home. Your room is ready. Your bed is ready. The food is ready. Everything in the house is ready for you.

“And for those of you who were chased out of PDP, be encouraged.

“The Bible says God will prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies. That is exactly what God is doing for you here in APC.

“Those who rejected you will see you celebrated here.”

Charging party members to remain loyal and dedicated, he said they should think twice if anyone is trying to deceive them to leave the APC.

“Even those trying to lure you to PDP are on my phone daily, asking quietly for a chance to return.

“They are like Nicodemus, reaching out in secret.

“We have set up a dedicated team to prepare and ensure that our members take maximum advantage of this programme.

“This is your label, your sweat—it belongs to you. It is your product, your effort, and your votes that have been harvested.

“We are committed to ensuring that no one is left behind—especially those who suffered, who voted, and who stood with us.

“Whether you are just joining us today or you’ve been here from the beginning, you are part of the labour.

“This programme is not meant only for early entrants or original members. What we are working on to benefit our people will cover everyone.

“Whether you arrive today, tomorrow or next week, you are part and parcel of the design we’re putting in place to benefit our people at the state level.

“We have received many individuals who have decamped to join us—and more are still coming.

“We are also working on medical support for a lot of our members. As they continue to come in, we will screen and sign, screen and sign, screen and sign.

“We will do our best to ensure that there is a place for everyone.

“It’s like building a football team. We sign and assign—sign players and assign them positions.

“All local governments, all wards, all communities—we need people to come in and inject life into this movement. The more, the merrier.

“That is the hallmark of politics. The more people you have, the stronger the movement becomes.

“We have seen the excitement across the board. I remember vividly—on the day of my mother’s burial, when Mr. President arrived at the church, he turned to me and said, ‘I’ve not seen this kind of crowd in most places I’ve visited.’

“He acknowledged that the APC family on the Plateau is truly strong.

“Now, imagine if only a handful of members—say six of them—had gone to the airport to receive him, and then the streets were empty, the church was empty, and we conducted the burial in silence. What impression would he have taken back to Abuja about APC in Plateau?

“Instead, he left with a clear message: APC in Plateau is strong, organised, and ready.

“All of us here have passed that message to him loud and clear: We have the numbers. We can win elections. We can hold Plateau State. We have the capacity. And all of us here are determined.

“As Governor Lalong said, ‘choice gets back to rescue, rescue gets back to Generation Next.” These three forces—Choice, Rescue, and Generation Next—have now given a new face to APC on the Plateau.

“So now, if you want to name it, you can call it Choice to Rescue Plateau for Generation Next.

“Anyhow you want to call it, the essence remains the same—rescuing Plateau for the future of the next generation.

“We are proposing that OPA Week be held on October 30, 2025, during which all those who have decamped will be officially received into the APC.

He revealed that the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, had agreed to officially receive all the decampees on the APC platform.

“Less than two weeks ago, we welcomed the President. In two weeks’ time, we’ll welcome the Vice President.“Just yesterday, I spoke with a number of governors, and a good number of them have agreed to be in attendance.

“The Senate President has offered to come, and the Speaker of the House has also indicated his willingness to attend.

“So once again, we will have a full house on the Plateau—just like we did during my mother’s burial.

“And this time, we will elevate the atmosphere, raise the volume, increase the energy, and turn up the dancing steps!”

APC strong enough to manage defections, expectations – Otu

Cross River Governor Bassey Otu, has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the most formidable political platform capable of managing the wave of defections and the expectations of new entrants and long-standing members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the quarterly meeting of the APC Governors’ Forum in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Otu attributed the growing attraction to the ruling party to what he described as “the steady and deliberate revival of Nigeria’s economy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The attraction is simple. The economy is growing, and it’s very clear that His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, is doing the right things. Everyone who truly desires progress and the growth of Nigeria is naturally gravitating toward that direction. People can now see a clear path of economic recovery and stability,” he said.

The governor dismissed insinuations of internal tension within the party, assuring that the APC has the structure and maturity to harmonise interests between its founding and new members.

“From the day you join APC, you have equal rights. The machinery put in place is such that there will be no issue. Our main agenda is not about internal politics but about delivering to Nigerians the dividends of good governance,” he stated.

According to him, the focus of the APC under President Tinubu remains the transformation of the national economy, deepening democratic governance, and ensuring that citizens feel the tangible benefits of reforms being undertaken at both federal and state levels. “It’s not about who came first or last,” he emphasized, “it’s about uniting to build a country that works for everyone.”

Responding to questions on the 2027 elections, Otu said the performance of the administration and the trajectory of its policies already provide strong grounds for optimism.

“The policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda are delivering real results. This meeting is for retrospection, alignment, and collaboration, to ensure that as governors, we are all moving on the right path of sustainable development.”

‎The Cross River Governor expressed satisfaction with the pace of progress being recorded nationwide, citing improvements in key sectors.

The National Chairman of the   All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, yesterday said that he would tap from the wisdom and experience of his predecessor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

He said he would regularly consult with the former Kano State governor in accordance with the advice of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Yilwatda said both of them would jointly work for the progress of the ruling party.

The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, who succeeded Ganduje last month, spoke on the bond of unity when he paid a condolence visit to him in Abuja over the death of his mother, Madam Lydia Yilwatda.

The national chairman said he would depend on Ganduje’s experience and knowledge to administer the party ahead of  the 2027 general election.

Thanking Ganduje for the visit, Yilwatda said: “Your Excellency, I will need to tap from your experience, I will need your guidance as I learn the curves.

“His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has asked me to work with you, to reach out to you as well about partnership. I told him I would regard you still as a chairman in partnership with me. You are still the co-Chairman of the party (APC).

“I am only a coordinator. My duty is simply to coordinate the membership of this party. But the party belongs to all of us.”

He added: “We are all collective leaders of the party. Moreover, by experience and by virtue of politics, you have been there long before me. Since the time of the NPN, you have been part of the political scene.”

“At that time, I was only in primary school. I recall that we used to see Governor Rimi come to Jos in the 70s and 80s to visit Solomon Lar. One day, he came to commission a project at my school. I was just in Form 2, waving at them along with my classmates — I never knew what politics truly meant.

“By then, people like you had already learned the ropes of politics, while we didn’t even know the definition of politics.

“So, I need your experience. I need your guidance. The learning curve still rests with you. I will depend heavily on your experience, your connections, and your contacts to ensure we solidify this party and build it together so that we can win more elections.”

Yilwatda assured Ganduje that his doors would be open to him at all times.

He said: “My doors are open. The office is open, the partnership remains open, and the friendship remains open. So, never lock your door against me—and I know you will not—because we have worked together long before this time.”

Ganduje said his relationship with Yilwatda should be a good example successor- predecessor bond.

He said: “One important thing is that the problem between successor and his predecessor is one of the issues that APC has solved. So, to show examples, I am sure you know that since 1999, the problem between former governors and their successors has always been an issue up till now in many states of the federation.

“Not only in governorship , but in other positions, especially in politics. So, our relationship is the beginning of solving that kind of problem, not only in APC, but in the whole atmosphere of democracy. I have to congratulate you on this new appointment.”

2027: Victory is sure for APC, Yilwatda predicts

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed confidence that the party is on course for victory in the 2027 general elections, following its strong showing in last weekend’s legislative bye-elections.

Yilwatda spoke in Abuja on Monday while receiving members of the APC Press Corps, who paid him a condolence visit over the passing of his mother, Madam Lydia Yilwatda, on Sunday.

While appreciating the journalists for their solidarity, the APC chairman reflected on the party’s electoral triumphs, noting that the results demonstrated its growing grassroots support across the country.

Reacting to the outcome of the polls, Yilwatda said opposition leaders were “roundly defeated” even in their strongholds, stressing that criticism from the opposition had only strengthened the ruling party.

“We are learning from their criticism. Every criticism they give helps us to a better victory. So we are very sure that our party will succeed in no small measure,” he said.

“If you look at it, where the opposition leaders are, we all defeated them in all those locations. From Kaduna to Kano to Adamawa to Taraba. So we just made it clear that our party is a leading party.

“We are also not just a ruling party, but we are the leading party and the preferred party in Nigeria. And preferred by Nigerians. If you have 75 percent acceptance by the people across the country, our success is not just in the north but also in the south.

“It tells you that in Nigeria, APC is the most accepted party across the country. And that’s the same thing we’ve made in Nigeria. So, expect that 2027 is going to be the same thing.”

The APC chairman said that while other parties were busy engaging themselves on television debates, the governing party chosen to go and meet the people at the grassroots to campaign and get their support.

“So forget the rhetorics on television. We are not addressing television. We are addressing the people at the grassroots. Our policies are progressive in nature. So we don’t address the bourgeois. We don’t address the rich.

“We address the poorest of the poor. And that’s what our policies are. And our target is to ensure that Nigerians, not people on TV, but Nigerians who believe in us, who have confidence in the party, who like progressive policies of the government, who like the bold step taken by the government to ensure that we make changes and bring policies that are creating the real changes that has never been seen before in this country.

“That belief is what people are having. People are voting for the party, and believe me, 2027 is a near-sure victory for us as a party.”

The Chairman then thanked the journalists for their solidarity, describing the visit as a reflection of the bond between the media and the ruling party.

In his short address, Chairman of the APC Press Corps, Jide Orintunsin expressed sympathy with the entire Yilwatda family, describing their late matriarch as a devoted Christian and a pillar of faith who raised a worthy child now entrusted with the leadership of Nigeria’s ruling party.

He noted that though the death of a mother leaves an irreplaceable void, the family should take solace in her exemplary life.
