  • Man, 27, in court over attempt to rape 60-year-old

    A 27-year-old man, Adeoye Olatomide, was on Friday docked in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for alleged attempt to rape a 60-year-old woman.

    Olatomide is facing three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and attempted rape.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with one other person currently at large on April 12 at 6.30 p.m along Okitipupa-Irele Junction.

    Orogbemi said Olatomide dragged the woman to a nearby bush and forcefully had canal knowledge of her.

    The prosecutor added that “Olatomide was apprehended by a passerby, while his accomplice escaped.”

    He said the offences contravened sections 356, 357 and 358, Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.

    However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to charges against him and the Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni, ordered that he be remanded in prison and adjourned the case until June 22.

  • Creditor charged with beating man to a pulp over debt

    A 22-year-old man, Idowu Okuato, was on Tuesday brought before an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly beating to a pulp a man who owed him N20, 000.

    The accused, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a two-count charge of misdemeanour and assault.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi told the court that the accused with another man still at large had on April 17 at 10.30 a.m. at Ikoya in Okitipupa, beaten to a pulp the complainant, Mr Julius Adebayo, who allegedly owed him N20,000.

    Orogbemi said that the accused also inflicted various degrees of injuries on the complainant and  tore his clothes valued at N12,000.

    The offences contravened Sections 351 and 517 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Ruling on the bail application of the accused, Magistrate Banji Ayeomoni granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with a surety in like sum.

    He added that the surety must present a year tax clearance as part of the bail conditions.

    Further hearing has been adjourned until May 22.

  • Businessman docked for parading as king-elect

    A 42-year-old businessman, Malumi Ademibo, on Wednesday appeared before an Okitipupa Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State for allegedly misrepresenting himself as king-elect

    Ademibo, whose address was not mentioned, appeared before Magistrate Banji Ayeomoni.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, said that the accused falsely paraded himself as the Amapetu-elect of Mahin Kingdom on Jan. 13 at 12:30p.m at Ode Mahin Kingdom in Ondo State.

    Orogbemi said that the accused falsely paraded himself following the death of Oba Lawrence Omowole, the Amapetu of Mahin Kingdom.
    He submitted that Ademibo’s action was an embarrassment to the Mahin Kingdom because its council of chiefs had yet to decide on who should be the next king.

    Orogbemi said that the offences were punishable under Sections 516 and 108(2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty, and was granted bail by Ayeomoni in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.

    Ayeomoni ordered that the surety must produce evidence of a year tax payment.

    He adjourned the case until April 30 for substantive hearing.

  • Police arraign man in court for burglary

    The police, on Thursday, arraigned a 23- year-old man, Soji Foyeku, in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, for alleged burglary and theft of mobile phones worth N60,000.

    The defendant, who is of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of burglary and theft.

    The Police Prosecutor, Insp Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant on March 3, around 1:30 a.m. at Idepe in Okitipupa, entered the house of one Shola Akinfola to steal two android Nokia and Tecno camera phones valued N30,000 each.

    He said that the offences were contrary to and punishable under Sections, 412 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

    Magistrate Banji Ayeomoni, in his ruling, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum.

    He added that the surety must produce evidence of a year tax clearance as part of the bail condition.

    The court, however adjourned the case to April 13 for further hearing.

  • Petrol attendant docked over N450,000 fraud

    Petrol attendant docked over N450,000 fraud

    A 28-year-old petrol attendant, Andrew Tawei, was on Thursday arraigned in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, over alleged N450,000 fraud.

    The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and fraudulent conversion of other person’s money to personal use.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant, between December  2017, and February 2018, sold petrol at a petrol station in Okitipupa and refused to remit the sales to the owner, one Ayo Sabitu.

    Orogbemi said that the defendant was arrested on March 2, around 8:00 a.m. at Ayeka in Okitipupa after he had fraudulently converted the money to personal use.

    The prosecutor said that the offences were contrary to, and punishable under, Sections 390( 9 ) and 383( 1 ), Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge leveled against him.

    The magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni, granted the accused bail in the sum N200,000 and a surety in like sum, and adjourned the case until March 22, for further hearing.

  • Court docks three for allegedly stealing goats

    Court docks three for allegedly stealing goats

    Three men who allegedly stole seven goats valued at N70,000 were on Tuesday brought before an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State.

    The accused — China Lawrence, 23; Rapheal Toriola, 21; and Eniola Amoo, 33,  — of no fixed addresses and without specific occupations, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, felony and stealing.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, said that the accused committed the offences at Igodan, Okitipupa around 12:00 a.m.  on October 15.

    He said that the goats, property of one Grace Badru, were later recovered from the house of one of the accused.

    The offences are punishable under Sections 390 (9), 430 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N30,000 each, with a surety each in like sum.

    Aiyemomi said that the sureties must  show evidence of of tax payment for one year.

    He adjourned the case until December 8 for further hearing.

    Court arraigns man for stealing yams

    A labourer, Monday Atawei, who allegedly stole 65 tubers of yam valued at N30,000 was on Thursday brought before an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State.

    Atawei of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant and two others at large, on Sept. 19 around 6:30 a.m at a farmland along Okitipupa-Ode-Aye Road, conspired to steal the yams.

    Orogbemi said that the defendant was employed as labourer by the complainant, Idowu Akinsuleyin, to work on his yam farmland, but later came back, after collecting his wages, to steal the yams.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 390(9) of Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni, admitted the accused to bail of N20, 000 with a surety in like sum and evidence of one year tax clearance.

    He adjourned the case until Oct.13 for further hearing.

    Man docked over car battery theft

    A 28-year-old vulcaniser, Tope Ogunwa was on Thursday arraigned in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court sitting  in Ondo State for allegedly stealing a car battery valued at N35,000.

    The defendant of No. 16, Ona-Opemipo Street, in Okitipupa is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi told the court that on Aug. 21, at old garage, the defendant stole the battery of a Toyota Picnic, property of one Tade Gbadeyanka.

    He said that the car with registration number Ondo KTP 601 AP, was kept in his custody but when the owner came to pick up the car, the battery had been removed.

    He added that the defendant was unable to give a satisfactory report on the missing battery.

    Orogbemi said that the offence was punishable under Section 390(9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, and Laws of Ondo State 2006.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.

    The Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N30, 000 and a surety in like sum.

    He added that the surety should produce evidence of one year tax clearance.

    He, However, adjourned the case untill Sept. 28, for further hearing.

    Court docks men for stealing palm fruits

    Two labourers – Timilehin Arogundade, 22, and Babatunde Oludasa, 23, were on Thursday arraigned in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, for allegedly stealing 80 bunches of palm fruits valued at N50,000.

    The defendants of no fixed addresses are standing trial on a two-count charge of felony and stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the accused persons on Aug. 7 around 6:30 a.m. at Igbo Igbonran village in Okitipupa, conspired to commit the offence.

    He said that they were employed as labourers to work on the farmland belonging to one Mathew Philip.

    The prosecutor alleged that they stole 80 bunches of palm fruits ready to be processed into palm oil after being paid their wages.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390(9),of Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge levelled against them.

    The Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N20,000 each and a surety each in like sums.

    He adjourned the case until Sept. 19 for further hearing.

    Artisan bags one month jail term for assaulting lover over infidelity

    An Okikipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, on Friday sentenced an artisan, John Kofo, 28, to one month imprisonment for assaulting his lover over alleged infidelity.

    Ayeomoni also ordered the convict to settle the hospital bill of the complainant and warned him against assaulting any woman in future.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, had told the court that the convict on July 21, at 12:30 p.m. inflicted injuries on his lover, one Omotola Odofin, after he accused her of flirting with another man.

    The prosecutor said that the injuries sustained by the complainant caused her discomfort, while the offence contravened the provisions of Section 355, of Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
