Teenager remanded for allegedly killing mate

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Juvenile Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, yesterday remanded a 15-year-old teenager for allegedly killing a fellow inmate in a correctional home.

Magistrate Kehinde Omotosho ordered that the boy should be remanded at a juvenile correctional home pending the outcome of legal advice from the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case till March 28 for mention.

The accused was charged with murder.

Prosecuting Inspector Sikiru Opaleye told the court that the teenager around 1:45am last December 11 at Juvenile Correctional Home, Sango, Ibadan, allegedly cause the death of another inmate.

He said the 10-year-old deceased, a hearing-impaired, was suffocated by the accused.

“The accused allegedly suffocated the victim, also an inmate of the correctional home, with a mattress, which he placed on his face.

“The accused said that the deceased drank his gari,” Opaleye said.

He said the offence contravened sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Law of Oyo State 2000.
