‘I thought selling stolen cars is genuine business’

Niger State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected seller of stolen cars, Nasiru Bala.

The suspect, who hails from Suleja Local Government Area, was arrested by police operatives attached to Tudun Wada Division in Minna, following a tip-off.

The suspect had tried to escape with a Toyota Camry with registration number, AKW 722AA Nasarawa State, when he noticed the police was on his trail.

Speaking to our correspondent, the suspect confessed that he got the stolen car from a man he identified simply as Usman who lives in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

He said that Usman was the one who stole the vehicle from one Akwa  Mallo and gave him to sell.

Although he refused to give the number of men in his syndicate, he said that they all specialized in stealing people’s cars and selling them to unsuspecting buyers.

Bala said that he had sold many stolen cars across Nigeria as their customers spread across the country, adding that the money realized from the sale of the cars is shared by members of his syndicate.

“I operate from Suleja-Minna axis and beyond depending on the location of the cars. We have many customers patronising us across the states in the country.

“Usman introduced me to this business. I thought it was a genuine business until I found myself in a police net.”

The Police Spokesman, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed that men attached to Tudun Wada Division in Minna recovered the stolen car from the suspect, adding that they are on the trail of other members of the syndicate.
