Thousands rendered homeless in Taraba as Cameroon opens dam

Our Reporter

Thousands of residents of Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, are now homeless after a massive flood swept across the town on Saturday, submerging about 300 houses.

The flooding was the result of a downpour and the annual release of water from the Labdo Dam in neighbouring Cameroon.

Apart from residential buildings, the flood also submerged shops, vehicles, schools and worship centres.

Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Area, Nasiru Boboji, appealed to the Federal Government to collaborate with Cameroon for the purpose of alerting residents whenever water from the dam is to be released.
