Three arraigned over attack

The police have arraigned three men: Alabi Tayo, 40, Olufemi Sangokeye, 37, and Lekan Lawal, 28, at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

They were arraigned for allegedly hitting two Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IE) workers while on official duties with a block.

The defendants, whose residential addresses were not provided, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of the peace and assault.

The defendants pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting Inspector Emmanuel Ajayi said the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by preventing some IKEDC workers from performing their duties.

He told the court that the defendants committed the offences with others at large on December 18 at 10am, at Abule Taylor Street, Abule Egba, a Lagos suburb.

Ajayi said that the defendant hit a moulded block on the eyes of Ken Ikheria and gave him a deep injury in his right eye while discharging his duties.

He said that the defendant also assaulted Mr. Johnson Olabode by giving him a blow, which resulted in an injury after he had torn his clothes.

Chief Magistrate Mrs. O. Fagbohun admitted the defendants to N100, 000 bail each with one surety each in the like sum.

She said the sureties must be employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and must live within the court’s jurisdiction.

The magistrate adjourned the case till January 15.
