Three siblings die in Anambra boat mishap

Three siblings have reportedly drowned in River Niger.

The deceased, who hailed from Urum-Etiti in Anam in Anambra-West Local Government Area of Anambra State, were with two schoolmates when the incident happened.

The Nation gathered that the three siblings, all students of Community Secondary School, Atani, Ogbaru council, were on their way home in  Ochuche, a riverside community, when their canoe capsized.

Spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, Mr Edwin Okadigbo confirmed the incident.

He said the deceased were declared missing while paddling a canoe on the Niger when the river became  turbulent following a heavy downpour.

He said two other persons on the vessel survived.

Okadigbo said there were intensified efforts to recover the missing children.
