The embattled governor of Akwa Ibom State and disputed winner of the March 9th gubernatorial election, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, may have hinged his last hope of remaining in the Hilltop Mansion beyond 2019 on the members of the Election Tribunal.
An inside scoop is that the Governor whose electoral victory was fraught with electoral irregularities, brazen vote buying and thuggery, is said to have boasted that he will complete his trouncing of APCs Obong Nsima Ekere when the Tribunal gives its verdict.
Speaking further, the source averred Mr Udom’s boast is not unconnected with his game plan to use an embattled SAN who is allegedly renowned for compromising Judges. The SAN is said to be clandestinely interacting with Tribunal members on behalf of the Governor. “The deal is sealed” said our source.
The compromised panelists are to receive millions of dollars from Udom Emmanuel through proxies. “The mouth watering offers were too tempting to be rejected” he added.
Meanwhile the Security Agencies have intensified their monitoring of the judges and panel members as part of sanitizing of the Judicial system.
It would be recalled that Mr Udom’s election in 2015 was also a subject of litigation on allegation widespread election malpractices and disenfranchisement of the electorates which led to its annulment by the Court of Appeal. It took the intervention of the Supreme Court to settle the matter in his favour. He’s reportedly counting on his experience with the judiciary on such matters.
