Truck driver kills keke passenger, injures two while beating traffic

One person was on Sunday crushed to death while two others sustained varying degrees of injury in a fatal motor accident along Onitsha-Awka expressway, Anambra State.

The accident which occurred around 3.55pm, at Ziks Roundabout Onitsha, involved a Scanner truck and a tricycle, with the three victims on board.

The victims were said to be on the tricycle when they were knocked down by the truck driver, leaving one of them dead.

The Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Pascal Anigbo, confirmed the incident.

He said, “At about 3.55pm today Sunday 28 June, 2020 a fatal Road Traffic Crash (RTC) involving a Scanner Truck with registration number LSR810XS and a Tricycle with registration number AAH790UW was recorded at Ziks Roundabout Onitsha, along Onitsha-Awka expressway.

“The crash occurred when the driver of the Scanner Truck beat the traffic light and unfortunately ran over the tricycle. Three male adults where involved in the crash. One sustained some degree of injury, while one death was also recorded.

“The injured victim was rushed to Toronto Hospital, Onitsha while the corpse of the dead was deposited at Boromeo Hospital Mortuary, by an FRSC rescue team from Onitsha Unit Command.

“The vehicles have been handed over to the Inland Town Police Station, for further investigation.

“The Sector Commander FRSC, Andrew Kumapayi condole with the family of the dead and wishes the injured victim quick recovery.

“He charges motorists to obey road safety rules and regulations, including road signs and markings which are installed to ensure safety of all road users.”
