Two charged with school bus theft

Two men, who allegedly stole and attempted to sell a school bus, were on Thursday brought before an Igbosere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

First defendant Timothy Gwar, 32, and second defendant John Terungwa Sanda, 37, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing before Mr Ade Adefulire.

The alleged offences contravened sections 409 and 285(8) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The police alleged that Gwar, a driver, and Sanda, were aided by accomplices who are at large.

They were accused of committing the offences on November 28, 2018 at the Eko Hotel Roundabout, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The court heard that they stole one Toyota Hiace bus Registered as EKY 109 FL with a street value of N6 million, belonging to Mrs. Nike Ajisola.

Gwar was required to take pupils to school and back home, but he allegedly disappeared with the bus after dropping the children at school in the morning.

The school management, after waiting in vain for him at the close of the day, reported the matter to the police.
The defendants were allegedly arrested at the Eko Hotel roundabout where they had gone to sell the bus for N5 million.

Gwar and Sanda pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate Adefulire granted each defendant N1m bail with two sureties in the like sum.

Further hearing continues on January 22.
