Two children were on Sunday afternoon rescued after a building collapsed at Ikosi-Isheri in Lagos.

The incident occurred barely 24-hours after a hilltop building caved on a bungalow killing a woman, her three children.

It was gathered that Sunday’s collapse happened at 4, Isaac Omole Street, Olowora Bus Stop, Ikosi Isheri.

According to a statement by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the collapse was as a result of heavy rainfall.

Public Affairs Officer (PAO) Nosa Okunbor said the agency’s swift response ensured no life was lost.

“Proper examination by the LASEMA team ensured there were no trapped victims beneath the rubbles, while the two children that sustained minor injuries were quickly administered first aid treatment by LASAMBUS.

“Further investigations by LASEMA revealed that the building suddenly collapsed as a result of the recent heavy downpour experienced in the state while the physical assessment of the building’s foundation was found to have been affected by the poor drainage system.

“In furtherance of it’s responsibility in disaster prevention, LASEMA has recommended that proper attention be paid to the collapsed building by LABSCA and the Ministry of Physical Planning through a thorough examination of the entire structure.

“Following its recommendation for further investigations, the affected building was cordoned off by LASEMA in order to avoid any further threats to other users of the environment,” he said.
