Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi has ordered immediate sealing of the private hospital that handled the first Covid-19 fatality in the state.
The governor gave the order at the weekend during a meeting with frontline health workers and team from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Abakaliki.
A statement by the governor’s media aide, Francis Nwaze, said Umahi also revoked the certificate of occupancy of the hospital.

“The governor directed the immediate revoking of their Certificate of Occupancy and prosecution in accordance with Ebonyi State Coronavirus and Other Dangerous Infectious Diseases and Related Matters Law 2020, to serve as a deterrent to other hospitals that may attempt managing COVID-19 patient without following NCDC protocols,” the statement added.
The governor used the opportunity to debunk reports that the Covid-19 patient, who died was a judiciary official.
He noted that no staff of the judiciary died as a result of the infection.
