A FEMALE undergraduate student of University of Jos (UNIJOS), Miss Mercy Naan, has been found dead on her room in the institution’s hostels.
The 23-year-old student was declared missing for two days before she was discovered dead in her room.
Plateau State Police Command, who confirmed the incident yesterday in a statement, said the incident was reported to the Angwan Rogo Police Division, Jos by the university security department.
The statement, which was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Terna Tyopev, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said: “Some students of the institution raised alarm over an unusual odour coming out from Room number 23, Zion Hostel in Naraguta, University of Jos.
“After the report, a team comprising the police, the university security and the medical personnel mobilised to the scene.
“On arrival, the hostel door was forced open and the motionless body of Mercy Naan ‘f’, a 23-year-old 200 Level student from the Department of Marketing was seen and moved to the university’s clinic.
“She was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty and her corpse has been deposited at the Anatomy Mortuary of the same university for autopsy.”
A preliminary investigation showed that Miss Naan was reported missing by her parents to the Security Department, University of Jos on Friday.
Detectives of the command have begun an investigation into the death.
