UNIOSUN gives relief in Osun

TO complement the state’s effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, the management of Osun State University has donated relief materials to its six host communities.

University of Osun gave  50 bags of rice, 35 bags of beans, 15 bags of garri, 600 bags of 2.5kg semovita and eggs to the poor in the six communities. thorugh their monarchs.

The university began a series of public enlightenment on the  transmission and safety measures to curtail spread of COVID-19 in local languages.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Labode Popoola said: “UNIOSUN is supporting government’s and others’ effort at providing stimulus to the needy in our host communities.

‘’I persuaded my colleagues in management and other officers in the university to sacrifice our April Communication and Fuelling Allowances for the purchase of foodstuffs for the vulnerable in our six host communities (100 units of a package containing 2kg each of rice, 2.5kg of semovita, garri, beans and eggs for each community). This is to cushion the possible effect of the  two-week lockdown.’’

Receiving the materials for Osogbo, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, Larooye II, thanked the institution for the initiative which, he said, would reduce hunger.

He urged philanthropists and organisations to help government during this trying period for a better society.

Ataoja said “we have been trying our best but the little we have cannot circulate. I am grateful to the management of the institution for coming out during this time of agony to help the community.”
