Varsity condoles with beareaved family

The management of Akwa Ibom State University has condoled with the family of one its students, Emem Samuel Jimmy, who was shot dead by hoodlums last weekend.

The late Jimmy, a 200 level undergraduate in the Department of Political Science, was said to have been killed by a notorious gang of phone snatchers along Ikot Okoro Road, near Obio Akpa campus of the university.

Eyewitness account said the deceased was shot dead because he tried to prevent the gunmen from snatching his phone.

The Head, Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol of the university, Mr. Akaninyene Ibanga, said in a statement issued to reporters in Uyo yesterday that the victim was rushed to hospital immediately for treatment after the incident occurred.

He added that the institution took over bills to save the deceased, but he died after much struggling to survive.

“The late Emem was shot between 8:30 and 9pm at Wilson Idiong Street, off Ikot Okoro Road, Obioakpa, in Oruk Anam Local Government Area, in an attempt to prevent gunmen from snatching his phone and was taken to hospital.”
