Welder arraigned over Ijegun pipeline explosion 

AN Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a welder, Lanre Orebela, following his arraignment for allegedly causing the July 4 pipeline explosion at Ijegun, a Lagos suburb.

Chief Magistrate Alex Komolafe ordered that Orebela, 35, be kept in Ikoyi Prison, pending advice by Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He adjourned till August 26.

Orebela, who lives at 36, Shotter Street, Ijegun,  was arraigned on a four-count charge of murder, conspiracy and causing damage.

The court did not take his  plea on the murder count.

He pleaded not guilty to the other counts.

Prosecuting Inspector Cousin Adams alleged that the defendant set the pipeline ablaze on July 4, at 5:30am, at Awoluye/Catholic Mission Street, Ijegun.

Adams said the defendant caused the death of Mr. Bashiru Abdul and destroyed property worth millions of naira through the explosion.
