NIGERIANS have been urged to be involved in the development of the education sector.

The Programme Officer of Human Development Initiatives (HDI), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mr. Johnson Ibidapo, speaking at a sensitisation programme organised by the NGO for parents, guardians, teachers, government officials and other stakeholders, in Somolu, Lagos, said: “All of us are stakeholders in educational development.”

He said it was unfortunate that the COVID-19 had contributed to increase in the population of out-of-school children, “which is now over 2.3million.”

Ibidapo said HDI, The Education Partnership (TEP) Centre and Mac Arthur Foundation had been contributing to educational development by monitoring projects at primary schools and junior secondary schools.

He said: “TEP, HDI and Mac Arthur Foundation have been commissioned to track the utilisation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) funds in Lagos to improve public sector accountability. Stakeholders need to monitor the UBE funds for  projects. If we fail, basic education will fail.”
