Xavi Hernandez will not only be the coach of Barcelona, as Joan Laporta and the board are prepared to give him the power to control more than just the sporting set-up of the first team. Thus, the former Barcelona captain will not just be the boss of the team, but he will also have a say in signings and the staffing of other departments, such as the medical area.
As MARCA has learned, Barcelona’s idea is for Xavi to be a Premier League style of manager and take full control of the team by assuming a large part of Ramon Planes’ functions. The Barcelona technical secretary has communicated his wish to depart the club, even though he had a deal until 2023.
However, Xavi will be surrounded by trusted professionals such Jordi Cruyff, who is currently in charge of the club’s international relations.
