The Grand Council of Yoruba Youths has felicitated with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Soun Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewunmi Ajagungbade and other Southwest leaders on the occasion of their birthdays.

According to the group’s President- General, Awa Bamiji, the celebrations were justified because of their contributions to humanity and the Yoruba cause.

Prince Abiodun, he said, “has done us proud by his excellent performances within one year of his administration in the state and this justifies his birthday celebration, more than anything else, by his families, friends, associates and all the beneficiaries of the dividends of democracy in Ogun State and we, Grand Council of Yoruba Youths, as our present day’s hero of democracy.”

Bamiji singled out Oba Ajagungbade for praise over his support for the group, among others.

“This is the right time for us to celebrate Oba Oladunni Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III, Soun of Ogbomoso land, who is best described as our royal mentor or oba ni igbejo and Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, omo olokun esin, and indeed the entire Ogbomoso land.

“When people make mention of Ogbomoso, we will start thinking of Soun, the late Chief Ladoke Akintola, Chief Sunday Adewusi, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, Chief Akin Oke, Hon. Sunday Dare, Col. Oladayo Popoola (rtd) and the rest.

“Our royal mentors or oba ni igbejo in Yorubaland are uncountable, but we just need to showcase the celebrator by telling the whole world how he had contributed to our group’s development.”

The group also celebrated Alao-Akala.

“We celebrate you as you turn 70 and your amiable wife, Chief Kemi Alao- Akala, because behind every successful man, there must be a woman of virtue,” Bamiji said.

The celebrants also included the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, on the occasion of his 17th year on the throne.

Bamiji said: “We congratulate your Imperial Majesty on the occasion of your 17th year coronation anniversary. We wish you more successful years.”

The group felicitated with Chief Pius Akinyelure on his reappointment as a member of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

“Your laudable performances as a senior official at Mobil Producing; Chairman, All Progressives Congress, Southwest Zone as well as when you were first appointed as a member of this board gave you upper edge above others,” Bamiji said.

He recognised the efforts of a former Minister of Sports and Special Duties and member of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Prof. Taoheed Adedoja.
