In a digital age filled with hustle and bustle, where parents hardly have time for their kids, it’s always encouraging to come across an interesting book like ‘Your Future is in Your Hands’. It discusses hard lessons learnt from choosing to follow a delinquent path.

It is a rare book that combines personal experiences with intelligence, psychology, and practical suggestions for every teen that desires success now and in the future.

Mr. Akin Adelakun’s book has extended what a teen s’ book should look like. It explores questions such as: What is adolescence? What are the pieces of information needed during the puberty period? What is even Puberty? What determines the timing of changes during the teenage years?

It investigates ‘’The Facts’’ — the things you have to know to cope with day-to-day living. They are the pieces of information that are known or proven to be true. They are those vital things you need to know as a young girl or boy that will help you realise your dreams of a brighter future, to know the facts according to Akin simply means being able to distinguish between truth and lies.

He described common characteristics of adolescence and how to cope with issues and challenges herein. For example Mood Swings. He lays more emphasis on why teens desire privacy and freedom. At this stage, they start to question family rules, beliefs that had been there since Methuselah was born.

The Author lays more emphasis on why the future belongs to adolescents. He put it more succinctly when he said, ‘No person can live, survive or succeed alone, you need support.’ He went further to say, you need the support of your family to successfully navigate your way through adolescence.

There are many skills required for you to develop into a functioning adult. Patience is one of them. It’s a basic life skill you need to navigate adolescence safely. He delved deeply into other skills such as basic cooking skills, budgeting and money management skills, personal grooming, communication skills, behavioral skills, problem-solving skills, and goal-getting skills.

According to Adelakun “Addiction is a chronic disease that affects the brain and behaviour. Ninety per cent of addiction to drugs starts when a person is a teenager and follows them into adulthood. When you are addicted to a drug or substance, you can’t resist the urge to use it, no matter how much harm the drug or substance may cause.”

‘Your Future is Your Hands’ is an inspiring, refreshing, and hopeful book recommended for kids, teenagers who confront challenging life problems and desires to have success in life.
