The national executive of Southwest Youth Forum has expressed dissatisfaction over the purported traditional rulers’ endorsement of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for second term in office.
The national chairman of the group Mr. Foluso Ajimuda noted with concern and dismay that the action is strange in view of the fact that Obas are meant to be apolitical.
He said their fatherly role to all, custodians of customs of the people could not be jettisoned. He added role is foster peace and tranquility in their respective domains.
“How could the royal fathers adopt an aspirant in the mist of many aspirants for the same seat across the state and in the various political parties? Are the Obas sensitive to the plight and yearnings of their subjects? Are they not on their own drawing criticisms, opprobrium and shame to themselves and the royal seats?

“It is highly disappointing that these Obas would allow themselves to be drag into the murky waters of politics and turned themselves to political hoppers and bootlickers of politicians for apparent self-gains.
“This unwarranted alliance with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for second time bid will continue to spur wide condemnation and disrespect to the royal office/fathers among the populace.
“This endorsement saga is a sad reminder of the ignoble act of some Yoruba Obas who groveled with the then goggled dictator, Sanni Abacha and rushed down to Aso Rock to endorse him for president in spite of strong and massive opposition.
“We hear the Obas have agreed to set up working committee across the three senatorial districts and go from house to house to seek for votes for Akeredolu. We are waiting to see the Obas turning themselves into APC canvassers in their various domains.
“The truth is that the Kabiyesis had gone too far by involving themselves in partisanship/endorsement and they should retrace their royal steps and provide a plain leveling ground for all political parties/ aspirants in their domains as it is expected of them. They should not drag their garments in the murky political waters,” he said.
