Zamfara crisis: Fed Govt ready to deploy additional troops

MINISTER of Interior Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd) yesterday assured of the Federal Government’s readiness to deploy additional security to end the wanton destruction of lives and property by criminal elements in Zamfara state.

Dambazau gave the assurance while delivering President Muhammadu Buhari’s message to commiserate with the government and people of Zamfara, following attacks by suspected bandits, which claimed property and lives of innocent Nigerians.

Dambazau, who was received by the state’s Acting Governor, Sanusi Garba Rikiji and other members of Zamfara State Executive Council, said the President was concerned about the unrepentant attitude of the perpetrators of senseless killing in the state.

He reiterated Federal Government’s commitment to work closely with the state government to deploy more security resources to the state, and ask those responsible to await the consequences of their actions.

According to a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Osaigbovo Ehisienmen, the minister was further briefed by heads of security agencies in Zamfara, in order to emplace additional proactive measures to restore peace needed to protect agricultural and mining interest in the state.

Dambazau later proceeded to the palace of Sarkin Katsina Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau, where he also delivered President Muhammadu Buhari’s message and assured the Gusau emirate of government’s commitment to ensure law and order in the state.

Before departing Gusau, the minster also visited internally displaced peoples camp, as well as the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government area, where protesters destroyed vehicles and other government properties.
