Resulting from recent banditry attacks across some communities in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, over 1,600 displaced people have swelled the number of at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Shiroro.

Out of the number, 600 of them are living in the Kuta IDP Camp while 1, 000 from the Kawure Community were in Gwada Camp.

The Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area, Alhaji Suleiman Dauda Chukumba has said that several others have relocated to Kuta and Gwada communities in Shiroro and other parts of the state which have been considered safe from attacks.

In a chat with reporters in Minna, Chukumba said the number is in addition to the several thousand who are currently living in the IDP camps.

According to him, the Kawure Community which had enjoyed peace for a long time has been taken over by Boko Haram elements which have made residents flee from the area out of fear of being victims of the insurgents’ attacks.

Recall that in October, the council chief had cried out that over 500 communities in Shiroro Local Government Area were affected by the insecurity bedevilling the council.

The Chairman stated that although the state government has been trying its best to confront the security challenges in the state, there is a need for them to do more so that Shiroro will not be overtaken by bandits and Boko Haram.

He, however, disclosed that there were plans by the state government to set up a general security operation in the local government area.
