Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has constituted a nine-man Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy on prison decongestion.
It is to advise the governor on the modalities for release of inmates as part of the national strategies to contain COVID-19.
The council comprises the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Salman Jawondo (Chairman), Gabriel Deji (member), Oluwole Osundeyi (member), Isiaka Olaide (member), Dr. Bolakale Saliu (member), Khadijat Alao (member), Abdulrasheed Lafia Ibrahim (member), Abdulkareem Olayiwola Ayinde (member) and the Director of Public Prosecution from the Ministry of Justice (Secretary).
Spokesperson for the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said: “The setting up of the committee followed Federal Government’s directives on April 1 that prison decongestion be carried out to curb the spread of COVID-19.
