Firm targets affordable housing, global expansion

Wossade Realty, a real estate focused on affordable housing and global expansion, has been inaugurated in Ibadan by Chief Emmanuel Ogunaike.

The event celebrated family legacy, resilience, and faith, as the promoters transformed their late mother’s dream into “generational wealth.”

Founder and Chief Executive, Sefiyat Olaide, said: “What inspired me to think about Wossade Realty is that my mom, when she was young and alive, always dreamt to go into building, but unfortunately she wasn’t able to,” she said.

Raised by her sister, Esther Ogunaike, and brother-in-law, Emmanuel Folorunso, Sefiyat said she got her skills and work ethic while living with them.

She noted that the business concept was first launched years ago in United States before being brought to Nigeria.

Sefiyat said: “I feel so happy that God gave me the opportunity and privilege to be here today with the products we are bringing to this society. By the special grace of God, in a few years, I see this business expanding internationally.”

Mummy Ogunaike paid tribute to their late mother.

“Our mother, Wosilat Aremu, sacrificed everything to see us through. In the cold, she became clothless to make us warm,” she recounted.

Despite challenges, she had aspired to build a mansion but instead built an enduring legacy in the hearts of her children.

“Today, your dream is germinating into generational wealth. We are transforming your dream of building mansions into a firm that will cut across the globe,” she added.

Sefiyat praised Chief Ogunaike. “Baba is more than my mentor; he is our builder. The fear of this man and the love for this chief is the foundation of generational wealth.” A livestock pioneer educated in Georgia, and trained in U.S. in poultry and feed manufacturing, Ogunaike has contributed to Ibadan’s economy and Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

He lauded the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, citing progress in addressing economic, security and infrastructure challenges.

The commissioner stressed that it was the responsibility of community leaders to mobilise residents to register as APC members and support the shared vision of the state and federal governments.

Also,  past Chairman of Udi, Nze Okoh, described the council as a formidable political bloc whose poll results often make a difference in the state.

He said the political awareness of the people was reflected in the pace of registrations already recorded in Obinagu.

Okoh said registration began before commencement of the exercise, following a unified meeting of leaders from different political backgrounds, who agreed to build a strong APC structure in the community.

Special Adviser to the governor on Power, Joe Aneke, said the impressive turnout demonstrated that Obinagu was solidly behind APC.

He praised the inclusive leadership approach of Tinubu, adding that it encouraged many to identify with APC.

Aneke also acknowledged the role of Mbah in creating an environment conducive to political mobilisation.

Chairman of Udi council, Hyginus Agu, reaffirmed the ward’s commitment to the APC, saying over 600 residents had already been registered.

He emphasised that formal registration was essential for members to benefit from party and government programmes, urging participants to take the message to their villages.

Agu noted that security had improved in Udi, attributing this to the responsiveness of federal and state governments to concerns of the people.

State Coordinator of the  E-registration, Flavour Eze, said the visit to Obinagu followed a review of data, which showed the community had capacity to do even better.

He encouraged leaders to intensify mobilisation to surpass current figures.

    • Body slams EFCC’s ‘acquittal’ of firm’s former executive veepee

a group under North/       South Coalition for Justice, led by Yahaya Dogo, has called on the Presidency, ICPC, Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, and the Police leadership to initiate a comprehensive probe into Adokiye Tombomieye’s activities in NNPCL regarding allegations of “criminal enrichment’’ against  him.

In a statement in Abuja, it condemned the clean bill of health given to the NNPCL’s former executive vice president (Upstream) by EFCC, which investigated his alleged financial improprieties in the company.

The group said the EFCC probe was fraught with inconsistencies, alleging protesters planning to march against the commission’s unwholesome ‘verdict’ were induced to abandon the demonstration.

The group’s renewed concerns stem from a recorded voice note wherein Tombomieye allegedly acknowledged compromising a civil society leader to halt a planned protest and news conference.

Dogo alleged that this spurious effort was intended to suppress public scrutiny of Tombomieye’s financial activities.

It noted that until the culpable are brought to book, the fight against corrupt practice will remain a mirage.

Dogo called on the leadership of ICPC to rein in officials of EFCC, who investigated Tombomieye with a view to getting an unadulterated report, adding that the clean bill of health issued to him was suspicious and questionable.

“We seek transparency, accountability, and moral probity from investigators and the investigated. If Tombomieye could compromise protesters, he could also do same to EFCC, which hurriedly gave him a clean bill of health,”

  • ‘Robust investment vital for urban governance’

‘Robust investment vital for urban governance’

Oniru of Iru, Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal Abisogun II, has called for robust investment in knowledge-driven institutions to boost urban governance and economic resilience.

The monarch spoke at 2026 Distinguished Personality Lecture Series of Lagos State University (LASU) at the school.

The lecture: “Urban Governance and the Knowledge Economy: Strengthening Institutions for a 21st Century Lagos,” was held at the university’s main campus in Ojo, Lagos.

Lawal said discussions on urban governance in Africa often focus on failure and institutional weakness, noting that Lagos presents a contrasting experience.

He noted  that despite rapid population growth, overstretched infrastructure, congestion, and regulatory challenges, the city has continued to function by adapting its institutions rather than relying on rigid or static systems.

According to him, governing a megacity like Lagos in the 21st century is not about perfect systems or fixed models, but about capacity of institutions to learn, reform, and respond continuously under pressure. He stressed that population growth, technological change, climate risks, public health shocks, and inequality make it impossible for policies to remain permanent.

The monarch described urban governance in the knowledge economy as an exercise in institutional learning, where governance structures must remain flexible enough to evolve while retaining public trust, legitimacy, and stability.

Read Also: Alleged terror financing: DSS arrests ex-AGF Malami

He said cities that fail are not those exposed to pressure, but those unable to adapt faster than pressure accumulates.

The monarch stressed the importance of  reform in Lagos’ development, stressing that progress in the state has often required dismantling systems that could no longer cope with growth and replacing them with institutions better suited to emerging realities.

He acknowledged that such reforms are often difficult and resisted, but said they have created space for innovation, coordination, and long-term resilience.

Using revenue administration as a practical example of knowledge-led governance, the monarch recalled that Lagos’ internally generated revenue stood at about N600 million in 1999, constrained by weak records, fragmented systems, and limited compliance.

He explained that deliberate institutional reforms, including the consolidation of digital revenue platforms such as the Lagos Revenue Portal and automation within the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), transformed revenue collection into a core governance function.

He said by 2020, Lagos recorded about N418 billion in internally generated revenue, far exceeding that of any other state, while more recent figures show that the state generated over N1 trillion in 2024, accounting for more than a third of total sub-national revenue nationwide.

The growth, he said, was driven by systematic taxpayer registration, digital platforms, improved data integration, and consistent enforcement rather than coercion.

Oniru explained that the strengthened revenue base has had direct governance implications, expanding the state’s capacity to fund transportation systems, waste management, health services, and social programmes without excessive dependence on federal allocations.

He added that during periods of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, fiscal capacity translated directly into response capacity.

He said Lagos’ experience during the pandemic demonstrated how revenue, data, and institutional coordination converge under pressure, noting that the state relied on real-time epidemiological data, inter-agency collaboration, and continuous policy learning to balance public health priorities with economic survival in a densely populated city.

Using  agencies such as the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) as case studies of knowledge-led urban governance, he explained that planning, data use, and institutional learning have improved service delivery in transportation and environmental management.

The monarch warned that  cities that rely exclusively on technocratic solutions risk social alienation, while those that ignore data risk governance failure.

Speaking on the role of universities, Lawal said institutions of higher learning, particularly LASU,  have a responsibility to strengthen the link between scholarship and practice.

He noted that research must engage real societal problems, while teaching should prepare students to think critically, act ethically, and navigate complexity in public life.

He advised policymakers and practitioners to view governance reform as a continuous process rather than a one-time event, stressing the need to protect, professionalise, and allow institutions to mature  to manage disruption effectively.

The monarch urged youths to recognise their role in shaping cities, adding that urban development is influenced not only by grand policies but by everyday decisions taken within institutions.

Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, described the lecture as timely and relevant, noting that it aligns with LASU’s commitment to scholarship, public policy engagement, and community development.

She said  it provides a platform for thought leaders to contribute ideas that strengthen institutions, inform governance, and shape sustainable urban development.

The event was well  attended by traditional rulers, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, political stakeholders, academics, students, among others.

    ‘Africa must embrace knowledge economy’

Obichi PitchLab Fellowship has begun its inaugural programme with 55 researchers from 31 universities in Nigeria and six African nations in a renewed push to reposition student research as a driver of Africa’s development.

It brings together participants at different academic levels, including 25 undergraduates, three Master’s students and a PhD candidate, cutting across diverse fields of study.

Speaking at the opening, Founder, Dr. Obichi Obiajunwa, said Africa must transition from a resource-dependent model to a knowledge-driven economy, stressing that student research should not be seen as a mere academic requirement.

“The time to end student projects as means of fulfilling graduation criteria has come. Africa must  rise into a knowledge-driven economy. The days of depending solely on natural resources – unrefined, unredefined and unrepurposed, should be over,” he said.

He said the fellowship will bridge the gap between academic research and real-world by equipping students with mentorship, funding and strategic guidance to translate ideas into viable solutions.

Obiajunwa noted that participants will be mentored by seasoned professionals, with monthly catalytic grants provided to support experimentation, validation and early-stage product development.

Some participants have already showcased research with strong development potential.

According to a final- year Microbiology student, Mutiyat Akanji, at Obafemi Awolowo University, said her work focuses on addressing Africa’s agricultural waste challenge through biotechnology.

“Africa has an abundance of agricultural waste but lacks cost-effective and sustainable recovery methods. My research discovered a ‘biological engine’ using indigenous African bacteria to break down rigid waste and convert it into microbial lipid, a sustainable feedstock for biodiesel,” she said.

A graduate of Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, Mustapha Yusuf, said he  is working on a Patient Medical Record System aimed at improving healthcare delivery through better data management.

“This project is close to my heart because it aims to streamline healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes. The Category A placement reflects its strong viability, relevance and value-creation potential,” Yusuf said.

Beyond research outputs, participants say the fellowship is already shaping their personal and professional growth.

With its maiden cohort now underway, the Obichi PitchLab Fellowship is positioning itself as a catalyst for change, challenging conventional approaches to student research and nurturing a new generation of African innovators capable of converting knowledge into sustainable social and economic value.
