    • Urges court to order fresh health examination

Detained self acclaimed leader of the proscribed separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has faulted the medical report by a team of experts constituted by the President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to ascertain his (Kanu) health status.

In a fresh suit he filed before the HIgh Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kanu is paying the court to among others, order the he should be examined afresh by a new team of experts assembled by the NMA.

A Federal High Court in Abuja, before which Kanu is being tried for terrorism related offences, had ordered the NMA president to constitute a team of medical experts to examine Kanu and confirm if he was fit to continue to stand trial.

The court’s decision was informed by discrepancies in the medical reports submitted to the court by the prosecution and Kanu’s legal team.

The NMA’s team submitted a report to the court on September 23 stating among others, that Kanu did not suffer from life threatening ailments and that he was fit to stand trial.

In the suit filed for him by Maxwell Opara (a member of the legal team he once sacked),Kanu is claiming among others, tha the medical report was fabricated.

Listed as defendants in the suit are: The NMB, its President, Dr. Bala Mohammed Audi and members of the team the issued the medical report.

They are: Dr. Benjamin Egbon O; Prof Emem Abraham, Dr. Ajibare Adeola, Dr. Temitope Farombi, Dr. Sunday Samson Owolade, Dr. Mustaoha Said Salihu, Dr. Yarima Suleiman Yusuf, Dr. Nwosu Ekeoma and Dr. Benjamin Oluwatosin Olowojebutu.

He accused the defendants of malice, negligence and professional misconduct, which particulars he claimed, included that they failed to perform the duty imposed on them by the court to personally examine the claimant.

Kanu claimed that the defendants knowingly issued a false and misleading medical report and acted in bad faith, reckless disregard, and gross dereliction of professional ethics.

He also accused them of conspiring “to pervert and in fact perverted the course of justice” and “caused avoidable pain and injury to the claimant’s person and reputation. “

Kanu stated in a statement of claim, that no medical examination was conducted on him as ordered by the court.

He stated that “while standing trial at the Federal High Court in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015, he experienced a significant deterioration in his health condition.

“Consequently, through his counsel, the claimant (Kanu) submitted a medical report to the trial court evidencing his ill-health and praying for either bail or access to proper medical care.

“The prosecution challenged the authenticity of the said medical report, prompting the honourable court to order the Nigerian Medical Association to constitute a committee to examine the claimant and to make an independent medical report on his state of health and fitness to stand trial while in detention.

“Pursuant to the said order, the first defendant – Nigerian Medical Association – acting through its President; the second defendant, was to constitute a panel and physically examine the claimant at the place of his detention.

“The claimant avers that at no time did the second defendant or any committee of the first defendant visited, interviewed, or examined him medically in compliance with the order of the court.

“Shockingly, the defendants purportedly forged, prepared and submitted a false medical report dated 23™ September, 2025 to Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Suit No: FHC/ABJ CR/383 2015.

“The said report is a fabrication, made without any medical examination or consultation with the Claimant and constitutes a gross professional misconduct, perjury, reckless disregard for the authority of the court and the rights of the Claimant.

“The false report was intended to mislead the court and in fact, it did mislead the court, discredited the claimant’s genuine medical condition and subjected him to further suffering, pain, and risk of irreversible deterioration in health

“As a direct result of the defendants’ false report, the trial court relied on same to deny the claimant access to adequate medical treatment and/or bail leading to further worsening of his health, emotional distress, and reputational injury.

“The claimant has suffered and continues to suffer significant physical and psychological harm, as well as humiliation and violation of his constitutional right to dignity of the human person under Section 34(1)a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).”

He is seeking the following reliefs:

*A declaration that the purported medical report dated 23rd September, 2025 submitted by the defendants to the Federal High Court in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015 is false, fabricated, and made in violation of the order of the court and the professional ethics of medical practice.

*A declaration that the Defendants’ conduct constitutes a gross violation of the claimant’s right to fair bearing and to dignity of human person as guaranteed under Sections 34 and 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

*An order directing the defendants to withdraw and publicly retract the said false medical report.

*An order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, their agents, privies or assigns from further publishing or relying on any false or unverified medical report concerning the Claimant.

*An order compelling the Nigerian Medical Association to conduct a proper, independent medical examination of the Claimant by competent specialists not connected with the Defendants herein.

*An award of general damages in the sum of N50billion for injury to health, reputation, emotional distress, and violation of the Claimant’s fundamental rights.

*An award of exemplary Damages in the sum of N500million for malicious fabrication and abuse of professional authority.

CBN Gov welcomes S&P’s upgrade of Nigeria’s outlook to positive

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, has welcomed the decision of S&P Global Ratings to revise Nigeria’s outlook to “positive” from “stable,” describing it as a signal that reforms in the financial system are gaining traction.

S&P announced the upgrade on Friday citing improving policy coordination, strengthened monetary management and steps taken to restore confidence in the Nigerian economy.

The revision shows that Nigeria is now viewed as having a better chance of achieving stronger credit fundamentals over the medium term. This means S&P now sees Nigeria as more likely to strengthen its economic and financial stability in the coming years, based on recent policy improvements.

In practical terms, the agency believes the country has a stronger chance of earning a future credit rating upgrade if current reforms are sustained.

Speaking at a strategic session in Abuja, Cardoso said the development reflects the steady progress recorded in stabilising key economic indicators since the beginning of the year.

According to him: “This is encouraging news for the country. It shows that our efforts to restore stability, strengthen governance frameworks and rebuild trust in the financial system are being recognised internationally.”

The Governor noted the CBN’s actions—ranging from tighter monetary policies to enhanced foreign exchange market operations—have contributed to clearer market signals and better investor confidence.

“The Central Bank has brought stability to the economy and become a beacon of hope,” he stated.

Cardoso added that the improved outlook should motivate both public and private sector stakeholders to sustain ongoing reforms that support growth, investment, and long-term macroeconomic resilience.

S&P’s latest position places Nigeria on a stronger footing ahead of future reviews and sends a positive message to global investors assessing opportunities in Africa’s largest economy.

  • Adeleke’s picture ‘missing’ on PDP Govs’ convention banners

Adeleke’s picture ‘missing’ on PDP Govs’ convention banners

Despite not yet openly dumping the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), there are strong indications that Osun Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke and his Plateau counterpart, Caleb Mutfwang may not be attending the ongoing Elective National Convention of the party.

Curiosity arose when a massive banner bearing the pictures of the PDP Governors did not carry the picture of the Osun Governor.

Although, the delegates from Osun state had arrived Ibadan, since Friday, tension arose when the delegates observed the missing picture of their Governor on the massive banner mounted at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

But, there was no indication that delegates from Plateau state were also around

Apparently sensing the apprehension being raised by the massive banner, organisers pulled it down from public view as the Convention progresses.

As at the time of this report, it could not be confirmed if the missing picture of Adeleke was an error of omission or a deliberate move.

However, the pictures of the Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara was on the banner despite his earlier indication that he won’t be attending the convention.

The seats reserved for the Rivers delegation were also observed empty before and during the ongoing convention.

Four Governors are attending the ongoing convention.

The Nation reports that the banner with the big inscription: “PDP Governors” has the pictures of: Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa); Bala Mohammed (Bauch and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum); Seyi Makinde (Oyo State) Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers state), Agbu Kefas (Taraba State) and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara State) and that of the party National, Damagum.

As of the time of this report, goodwill messages were still being given while the main election was yet to begin.

  • Blood for a High:The Hidden HIV Threat Behind Nigeria’s “Bluetoothing” Craze

Blood for a High:The Hidden HIV Threat Behind Nigeria’s “Bluetoothing” Craze

    By Rukayyah Karaye

The story begins in dimly lit corners of forgotten neighborhoods places where hope feels like a luxury, and survival comes one risky choice at a time. Among Nigeria’s most vulnerable youth, a chilling new ritual is emerging, known not for its innovation but its horror. They call it “bluetoothing.”

The name sounds harmless even modern borrowed from the wireless technology that connects our phones and gadgets. But in this context, it has nothing to do with devices. Instead, it describes a tragic and deadly act: people injecting themselves with the blood of others who have just taken drugs, hoping to “share” the high. In reality, what they are sharing is something far more like disease, infection, and death.

Bluetoothing is born from a mix of poverty, addiction, and misinformation. Among those who inject drugs but cannot afford their own dose, a desperate belief has taken root  that the blood of someone already “high” can transmit the drug’s effect. One syringe becomes a bridge of blood between users, linking not only their veins but their fates.

Each shared needle, each drop of borrowed blood, becomes a ticking time bomb for HIV and hepatitis B and C transmission.Health experts fear that in places where bluetoothing is practiced, the gains made in HIV prevention could vanish overnight. For Nigeria, where nearly 1.8 million people already live with HIV, this could open a catastrophic new front in the epidemic one not driven by sex or birth, but by needles and blood.

Nigeria’s rising drug use has created fertile ground for this deadly practice. According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), about 14.3 million Nigerians aged 15–64 use psychoactive substances a rate higher than the global average. Economic hardship, unemployment, trauma, and lack of mental health care have pushed many into dangerous coping mechanisms.

In overcrowded urban slums, peer influence spreads faster than facts. With little access to clean syringes, drug counseling, or nonjudgmental healthcare, bluetoothing becomes an act of survival  and rebellion. For many, it is not about getting high; it is about escaping pain. But the escape is short-lived, and the consequences are lifelong.

Law enforcement agencies like the NDLEA play a vital role in curbing drug trafficking and abuse. Yet bluetoothing is not a problem that arrests can solve. This is a public health crisis, one that demands compassion, education, and practical harm-reduction strategies.

To truly stop bluetoothing, we must meet people where they are.

    ● Community outreach must replace judgment with empathy, spreading awareness about the dangers of blood-sharing.

    ● Needle-exchange and testing programs, proven effective globally, should be introduced to prevent disease transmission.

    ● Faith-based groups and NGOs can help rebuild trust in communities, creating safe spaces for education and support.

    ● Mental health and addiction treatment should be integrated into primary healthcare systems, offering pathways to recovery rather than punishment.

Bluetoothing is more than a dangerous trend it’s a mirror reflecting societal neglect. It tells the story of youth left behind, of communities where despair outpaces opportunity. Behind every syringe is a human being who feels unseen, unheard, and unwanted.

If Nigeria fails to act now, the cost will not only be measured in numbers or statistics but in lost lives and shattered families. The next wave of HIV may not come from unsafe sex or mother-to-child transmission, it may come from a borrowed syringe filled with someone else’s blood.

Stopping bluetoothing will require courage not just from policymakers, but from all of us. From health workers who choose compassion over condemnation. From leaders who invest in prevention instead of prisons. From a nation willing to face the uncomfortable truth that silence is complicity.

The time to act is now. Before another young person picks up a needle not to inject a drug, but to share someone else’s high and unknowingly injects their death sentence. Because in the story of bluetoothing, what’s truly being transmitted isn’t just blood. It’s a cry for help  one Nigeria cannot afford to ignore.

  • Police arrest 54-year-old father for alleged defilement of three daughters

Police arrest 54-year-old father for alleged defilement of three daughters

In a bizarre revelation that has left Ugborikoko Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Uwvie Local Government Area of Delta State in disbelief, a father, Edward Odega, has been arrested for alleged sexual abuse of his three daughters over a period of seven years.

The suspect, an indigene of Issele-Mkpitime, Aniocha North LGA, allegedly started defiling his first daughter who is now 24, at 12 when she was in Primary 6.

The victims, aged 13, 15, and 24, reportedly suffered in silence until one of them found the courage to speak out.

Speaking on the incident, the unnamed 24-year-old lady said: “When I was in Primary Six, then 12 years, I was shy and afraid. I was thinking it was an abomination to say that kind of thing outside to people hence I kept quiet, suffering in silence.”

The abuse was said to have come to light during a school enlightenment outreach conducted by CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor, Divisional Police Officer of Ugborikoko Division, aimed at sensitising students on child safety and reporting abuse.

One of the children, moved by the session, disclosed her years of torment she and her sisters had endured at the hands of their father.

Following the revelation, the police swiftly intervened, leading to the arrest of the father (Odega).

Authorities are now providing the children with medical and psychological support while investigations continue.

CSP Zuokumor described the child’s bravery as “exceptional,” noting that the outreach programme played a critical role in giving her the courage to come forward and exposed her father’s atrocities.

She emphasised that such community and school initiatives are essential in breaking the silence around child abuse and ensuring that victims know they are not alone.

The suspect confessed to the defilement of his three daughters during an interview with  the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright.

When the Command’s spokesman asked him whether he was telling the truth based on revelations by his daughters, Odega said: “Yes, you are telling the truth Sir”.

When asked how long he had been sleeping with his daughters, he said: “For seven years now. I don’t really know; that is just an evil act.”

Edafe said the suspect would remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
